The rooms are tired ,dated and grubby stains all over the carpets worn out furniture, bed linen etc,a bit depressing to be honest on arrival we were told due to the virus the appropriate rules if we needed extra pillows tea coffee blah, blah ironic as only two teabags two coffees for a two night stay for two bit mean could have asked for more but minimising contact so bought some .
The breakfast was not great understandably it’s no longer a buffet so you tick what you require quite stingy two toast one egg no black pudding they ran out ! Poached egg hard requested another full of water and snot always amazes me how chefs are unable to produce a decent poached egg it’s the easiest thing ever and what two i was served I wouldn’t have given them to my own family but they were sent out regardless of the state of them !strange. All in all not as clean or loved as many other hotels Felt sorry for the staff clearly trying hard but won’t be repeated.

My previous review of The Fairway was very positive, unfortunately we won’t be staying with them again and neither will other fans of a local Barnsley band we follow.

I fully appreciate they have policies, but other hotels locally have been willing to transfer bookings to a later date for people attending a music event cancelled last minute because of national guidance around the Corona Virus.

It’s not usual circumstances, we would have been spending money on breakfast, dinner, drinks etc. in November, so very short sighted, we will take our business and money elsewhere.

I’m sure they’ll be along to quote their policies but a little common sense and understanding goes a long way.

Unfortunately I expected more from this hotel and was very disappointed.
I booked a family room which told me on details was two single beds and a double bed. Which was in fact a double bed with a small single mattress on the floor. My 11 year old daughters feet were off the end of the mattress. So only suitable for toddlers.
The window in the room was draughty and the mattress was underneath the window so the second night we had to re arrange the room so she didn’t get cold.
Heating was an electric heater on the wall that stunk when I turned it on and then the wall and picture above it were hot to touch so I turned it off as was worried about it burning.
The floor inside the room and in the hallway outside was so creaky even when a child walked across it. Which meant every time someone walked up the corridor at night if sounded like they were in your room and woke everyone up.
The room was dated and doesn’t have a fresh clean feel and the bathroom was tired looking.
Certainly won’t be staying here again.
I did speak to staff who were helpful to a point but nothing much they could do. And to be honest this was their attitude.
Location worked for as we were visiting family close by but I would never stay again.

'My wife just called the Fairway Hotel in Dodworth, Barnsley, where we have stayed several times to attend the fantastic ‘Underneath the Stars' festival. We called to cancel our hotel reservation as the festival has been cancelled due to COVID 19. The phone was forwarded to a woman called 'Toni' at her home who was rude and abrupt from the outset. We were categorically told that we could not have a refund, so my wife asked to speak to a Manager. We were told by Toni that she was at home and unless we wanted to talk to her cat then no-one was available. The woman continued with her tsunami of rudeness towards my wife who was nothing but polite in return. The woman was so rude that we are going to write to our local MP, Trading Standards, Barnsley Chronicle and Underneath the Stars Festivals director as we have new experienced such poor customer service. We will not stop until we get a refund or apology. These are difficult and challenging time for all of us and to be greeted with such shocking customer service was very upsetting for my wife and Toni is undoubtedly a terrible ambassador for Fairways, Barnsley and Sleeptight hotels. If I could give a minus amount of stars in this review I absolutely would. Extremely shocked and surprised about the experience.

This hotel, although short on amenities, was spotlessly clean with big rooms and friendly and helpful staff. There was no air-conditioning to the room but there was a 12" fan provided. Milk, teabags, coffee and sweeteners/sugar were provided and refreshed upon request. The TV was quite small and did not appear to have an e.p.g. or teletext.

The attached bar/grill was reasonably priced and the food was well cooked, to order, and very tasty.

We arrived at the hotel late, this have been previously arranged. There was a wedding function adjacent and managed by the hotel. Guests staggered from the venue and started a conversation with other guests hanging out of the window, this was vey loud and littered with foul language. There was also a strong smell of cannabis in the car park, I was travelling with two teenage girls who were very upset with this.

There was nobody on reception the night porter eventually came and explained that there was a large wedding and it would be noisy until the early hours of the morning. Based on what we were confronted with and the possibility of a noisy and unsettled night in the hotel I took the decision not to stay and drive home, which the night porter appreciated.

The following day the hotel took out the full charge to cover the rooms booked. I contacted the hotel and the duty manager explained that a number of complaints had been received from other guests with people removed from the hotel in the early hours of the morning. He asked me to leave it with him and he assured me I would be due a refund and he would contact me back.

I waited over a week without any contact, after telephoning myself twice finally got a call to state that I would not be reimbursed on the basis that they could nor resell the room (it was after 23.00 when we checked in), and they don't have a responsibility to manage the guests in the hotel.

A follow up email from me to the operations manager was responded to after 4 days again stating that I would not be reimbursed. This email stated that they could only action issues once they had happened, however I don't think anybody would have felt comfortable staying in a hotel that had a number of drunken and abusive guests and as it played out this was the case.

Went in not understanding the rules of Covid to order food for outdoors, was escorted to a table where I had to order, was disappointed that they didn’t even do sandwiches for a light lunch only one they did was a club wrap!! after payment I was given my drink and told that someone would bring my wrap out to me. The food was awful, the mixed salad leaves were brown, dried up and not fresh, the chips had been stood for a long time as they were cold and mist were bad, the chicken was bland and had gristle in it. All in all it was a waste of money. I complained to the duty manager who said I couldn’t have a refund and that he could offer a drink but seeing I was going it didn’t matter. I then complained when I got home as I wasn’t satisfied with the outcome but again wouldn’t offer a refund. Poor quality food no wonder it was empty. I won’t be returning.

We booked a meal with yourselves for 2 adults 1 child

Upon arrival we waited 10 mins + to simply get served (1 barstaff)

Upon getting to bar I explained I booked a table gave our name and was told its not been booked and just sit "anywhere" (dispite having email confirmation) everything seemed like too much trouble to the staff (no smile)

Ordered steak ..was charged £1.95 extra than menu stated ..only through querying it was it rectified

Chicken and bacon's Salad and

Kids chicken nugget meal ,chips beans

The steak meal was practically inedible hard to chew dispite asking for medium/well chips cold

Chicken in the salad dry. Tasteless

Not worth price stated in the menu!

The worst thing is portion size that was given to my child. For £ 4.79 (I've attached a photo of the untouched plate. With beans in a tin no bigger than a sauce pot

We literally left our full meals

Noone asked how our food was

Nor did they remove plates when finished .. we were left with meals over an hour after noone bothered with us

Even saw one of the staff members who.was serving head off to change an infants nappy?!

We dined and paid over £30 and literally enjoyed nothing and are so disappointed as we used to come regular and really enjoy atmosphere and food however not this time

I'm afraid just from this visit we don't want to return just such a shame ..sent email with no reply

Well what can I say.
Tired, dated, dirty and scruffy!
Most uncomfortable stay I've ever had in a hotel
The customer service level of the staff was below zero
No TV remote, asked for hours to be fobbed off, child spoken to rudely when she asked initially for assistance, male staff member said leave it with him he would be back and never returned, female member of staff looked in a couple of rooms and couldn't match a remote to the TV so said wait for the night Porter to come at 9pm ( it was 5pm we had checked in and wanted to relax with some tv)
At 945 she said hes not here yet we will sort it later - it never happened

We has booked a family room 2 adults 2 children we had sleeping space for only 3 of us.
The child bed was pretty much a mattress on the floor you couldn't even see the bed when entering the room, we had to pick a bogey off the duvet cover on arrival!

The glass in the bathroom was dirty.

The double bed base was shredded and looked an absolute mess, the mattress topper wasn't much better.

The floorboards creaked so loud if you got up for a wee in the night you wake everyone in the room and around you up . This was the same on the stairs and corridors. Certainly no peaceful sleep to be had here.

The restaurant was shocking, the staff couldn't crack a smile, ordering drinks on the app and having to chase them up 3 times every time kind of defeats the object of ordering from the table. Sometimes the drink took over 20 minutes to arrive.

The same with missing food items, bowls of chips not being served chased up times and being served after the meals had been eaten.

We had to ask for then table to be cleared after eating, puddings were served while the dinner pots were still on the table, we did t have room to move.

They also messed up the reservation and separated our party so we didn't even get to sit together despite it being booked in advance

Waste of money, please don't waste yours, premier inn are so much better.

This morning I visited The Fairway for a business networking meeting. As it was my first time at the hotel I didn't know what to expect. But I was impressed with the service, food and venue itself. The hotel was easy to find and there was plenty of parking.

The entrance was clear and the bar/restaurant area was clean and spacious. With large windows on one side, it meant the room was also bright and welcoming. I had a continental breakfast which gave me a choice of pastries, fruit, yoghurt and fruit juice. My colleagues enjoyed their cooked breakfasts too.

I'll definitely be back, it's a great venue for a business breakfast meeting.
