We stayed in The Gate Lodge which was welcoming from the moment we stepped in the door.. the kitchen is very modern and excellently equipped with everything you could possibly wish for. Graham and Trysha provided extra little touches like the velvetiser, coffee machine and soup with fresh bread on arrival. The sauna and hot tub were excellent and we certainly made the most of relaxing in them. The lodge is immaculately clean with a little garden to observe nature at its best.. ( red squirrel, mistle thrust ) We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked to stay again next year.

Thank you Graham and Trysha for a wonderful weekend! We stayed in The Retreat for my birthday which was just fabulous. After getting caught in floods due to Storm Babet, Graham made sure we got to our accommodation safely. We had delicious homemade soup and fresh bread waiting for us on arrival, and all the extra little touches made the weekend extra special. The accommodation was superb. Super comfortable and the addition of the swim spa pool was lovely for relaxing. They really did think of everything to make the stay perfect. There is an observatory on site which you can use, but being novices we opted to hire the skills of Si Rowland, a local astronomer who showed us around the night sky. He was amazing! So knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended if you get the chance of clear skies. The surrounding area is stunning and some lovely walks close by. Loved the place so much have booked to come back next year for our wedding anniversary.

Beautiful retreat for a short break. The Gatehouse had everything we could have asked for. The location is fantatsic with walking/running/cycling from the doorstep. This is a perfect base to visit the wonderful beaches and castles in the area and then return to the snug and cosy accomodation that Graham Trish provide. An absolute highlight was the Night Sky experience and making use of the observatory with Simon. Simon was brilliant and knowledgeable.. Saturn, Jupiter and all the Constellations, ana amazing couple of hours.

We have just returned from a fabulous mini break staying at Gate Lodge cottage. The location was perfect for exploring Alnwick and the Northumberland coast line. The cottage was perfect, wonderfully fitted out. Bed was comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved the sauna, and the hot tub was great to come back and relax in after a day out. Graham and Trysha have thought of everything that could be needed for the perfect escape. We were really lucky with the weather and the property is in the dark skies park and we were so excited to star watch - my iphone even capturing the aurora. There was so much more to explore and we will definitely be returning here again.

The Gate Lodge is perfect. We have been married for 25 years & the ambiance, luxury & extra touches everywhere in the cottage, made us feel like newlyweds again! The jacuzzi, open to the elements, was fabulous & we are now researching one for our home in Shropshire. Thankyou for making us feel so welcome, but perfectly private. Tony & Elaine

Fantastically located in stunning scenery, so peaceful. We stayed in the Gate Lodge, beautifully laid out with all mod cons, and very clean. Arrived to fresh bread and soup waiting and a curry in the slow cooker prepared by the wonderful Graham and Trysha. Bed is huge and comfortable. Bathroom is big with a great shower. Sauna was great when got the hang of it, and hot tub in the garden got a lot of use, whilst watching the wrens. Well located for visiting the beautiful Northumberland coast and attractions. We only scratched the surface and will definitely be returning.

We stayed for a week and had the most wonderful time in this beautiful and luxurious cottage, it truly was a fantastic experience and it is well deserving of its 5 star status. A huge amount of time and effort from Graham, Trysha and Sue ensures that your stay in the Retreat is perfect, we were highly impressed with the attention to detail throughout the cottage - quite incredible! The swim spa was such a treat and we spent as much time as possible, enjoying it. There was some lovely home made soup and bread ready when we arrived and the chicken korma for our evening meal was great. We also had the pizza on the Saturday night and it was delicious, the best pizza that we've had - such a good idea being able to order meals in advance. The cottage is situated in a very peaceful area but there are many villages and towns close by. The Ingram Cafe is just around the corner, well worth a visit, we enjoyed our bacon roll there. We had an amazing time and wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Retreat for a very relaxing couple's break.

We had a wonderful holiday at the Gate Lodge, Ingram to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The cottage was very well presented, spacious and comfortable and set in a beautiful location in the Breamish Valley with walks from the door. We were greeted by Sue who showed us around and Trysha had prepared home made soup and bread for us. We had ordered a meal for dinner and this was cooking in the slow cooker. The convenience of being able to order prepared meals was fantastic and the wood fired pizza and the casserole were delicious. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and sauna and sitting out in the lovely garden and were fortunate enough to see two red squirrels running across the lawn. Graham was on hand if we needed anything and we spent a very relaxing and enjoyable week walking and exploring castles, gardens and the coastline in the warm and sunny weather.

Just returned from a perfect first stay at "The Retreat". This luxury/spacious accomodation is so unique with the indoor swim spa, which is so good to come back to after walking in this peaceful and particularly attractive area of Northumberland known as the Breamish Valley. But you're still pretty close to Alnwick and the coast too. Nice little touches such as homemade soup and fresh bread on arrival, and a velvetiser for delicious hot chocolate. Checked out the pre-fabricated observatory pod and telescope which guests can use in the Rectory gardens (when was the last time you saw one of those in the list of amenities for your accomodation?! ), but there was too much cloud cover on an evening whilst we were there. I'd recommend you give it a go though, as the light polution is exceptionally low in this part of the country making it one of the best areas for star gazing (search Northumberland Dark Skies) so its a great resource to have available. Overall, it's a credit to hosts Trysha and Graham that they decided to create something really special and unique just for couples, rather than treading the more usual path of greater occupancy for a property of this type. We'll definately be back.
