our second visit to cheviot holiday cottages, this time we stayed in the couch house.

The cottage has been recently updated with both the bathroom and kitchen areas having modern fittings (double ended hydrotherapy bath and 'wet room' shower), modern fully fitted kitchen with all required facilities (separate fridge / freezer, dishwasher, washer / dryer, induction hob, electric oven and microwave, there is also a wine chiller). the recent addition of roof lights in the kitchen area provides additional natural light during the day.

An integrated sound system throughout the cottage allows for music / radio to be heard throughout (you can also pair it to your mobile phone). Free hi speed wi-fi is a great addition.

on arrival the owners had provided a homemade bread loaf and homemade soup with a small jug of milk in the fridge and small jars of jam on the kitchen table. Free-range eggs were also provided by the owners later in the week. There is also a supply of coffee pods for the Nespresso machine and coffee / hot chocolate sachets for the hotel Chocolat maker (further supplies are provided by the owners if you need any).

Having a real fire adds to the ambiance of the cottage in the evening with supply of logs available from the nearby log store.

If you enjoy cycling this cottage comes with the options of mountain bikes and electric bikes (free to use), can definitely recommend the electric bikes which provide enough assistance to get you up the 'hills' with minimal effort!

Would highly recommend the 'pizza night' which can be ordered via the owners. This provides 2 home cooked 10-inch pizzas with homemade chips and side salad along with homemade ice cream all delivered on a large timber board. Perfect with a glass of wine.

the large TV in the lounge area is perfectly positioned to curl up on the sofa and relaxing whilst watching your favourite programmes.

would highly recommend this cottage if you are looking to get away from the rat race and take time to chill out and relax and recharge your batteries.

Will definitely be returning again.

This was our first visit and already planning our next. Our hosts Graham and Trysha were always there if needed, always discrete but nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was fabulous, very clean and finished to an exceptional high standard, relaxing in the swim spa/jacuzzi was very much appreciated after the long walks. Situated in an area of beautiful landscape right on the doorstep. Can highly recommend the beef stew for an evening meal (optional extra) and on arrival the soup and homemade bread. Recommend the electric bikes as these get you around effortlessly up and down the hills.

We have just returned from a wonderful week staying in The Retreat. The accommodation was of the highest standard in every aspect. The swim spa pool was the highlight, and we enjoyed using it for both exercise and relaxation, whatever the weather outside. We were made to feel very welcome with the homemade soup and crusty bread on arrival, as well as other food and drink extras that were available for us to use.
The area was beautiful to explore, both inland towards the Cheviot Hills and along the magnificent Northumberland coastline. The dark skies were fantastic for star gazing from the garden.
This is a superb place to relax and unwind, away from the pressures of the world. The extra touches such as the use of a variety of bikes and fitness equipment all added to the experience.

We had a wonderful holiday at the Gate Lodge, Ingram to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The cottage was very well presented, spacious and comfortable and set in a beautiful location in the Breamish Valley with walks from the door. We were greeted by Sue who showed us around and Trysha had prepared home made soup and bread for us. We had ordered a meal for dinner and this was cooking in the slow cooker. The convenience of being able to order prepared meals was fantastic and the wood fired pizza and the casserole were delicious. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and sauna and sitting out in the lovely garden and were fortunate enough to see two red squirrels running across the lawn. Graham was on hand if we needed anything and we spent a very relaxing and enjoyable week walking and exploring castles, gardens and the coastline in the warm and sunny weather.

We had a wonderful week in Gate Lodge. The setting itself is in a stunning area with lovely walks nearby. From the moment we set foot in our cottage we knew we were in for a luxurious stay. The facilities are sparkling clean and the owners have clearly thought of everything you would need for the perfect stay-cation (washing and drying, kitchenware, slow cooker, decent sized fridge and freezer etc.) The cottage was the perfect mixture of modern facilities in a charming building. The location of the cottages are a perfect base for exploring Northumberland and we loved having the hot tub and sauna to come back to after a busy day out. The owners could not have been more helpful with any queries we had. (We asked for some ideas for local walks and Graham brought us a heap of information, printed routes and books to look through.) We also enjoyed Trysha's cooking including the wonderful homemade pizzas which were absolutely delicious. A perfect stay - we hope to visit again one day!

Just returned from a fabulous stay at The Retreat. From the moment you step in you are greeted by the smell of freshly baked bread waiting on the worktop along with free range eggs from the chickens and an assortment of jams. A welcome supply of coffee, tea, milk, hot chocolate and condiments are also provided. Graham and Trysha go the extra mile to ensure guests have the best possible experience whilst respecting their privacy. Can't fault it. Second visit here and would love to return.

We stayed in The Gate Lodge which was welcoming from the moment we stepped in the door.. the kitchen is very modern and excellently equipped with everything you could possibly wish for. Graham and Trysha provided extra little touches like the velvetiser, coffee machine and soup with fresh bread on arrival. The sauna and hot tub were excellent and we certainly made the most of relaxing in them. The lodge is immaculately clean with a little garden to observe nature at its best.. ( red squirrel, mistle thrust ) We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked to stay again next year.

Our second stay at these fabulous cottages was just as wonderful as our past experience, if not better. As always everything we needed was to hand, the cottage was spotlessly clean, warm bread awaited us along with a scrumptious home cooked meal. The Breamish Valley provided the perfect backdrop with Trysha and Graham providing suggestions on walks, bike rides and days out for the whole family including our dog.

One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the home made, stone baked pizzas, made by Trysha and delivered by Graham. We’ve had a few pizzas in our time but these were certainly some of the best we have ever had.

Thank you again for another perfect stay!

Just the perfect location for luxury relaxation, fabulous walks, exciting bike rides and dark skies. And chilled out evenings in the hot tub or sitting by the fire pit.

Stuart and I enjoyed a wonderful break in the beautiful Gate Lodge and were delighted at how well equipped the cottage was, and how fabulously clean! A complete home from home with some extra touches…warm bread and home made soup on arrival and fresh eggs from the family hens.

We used the electric bikes (huge fun!), Graham ensured we were safe and comfortable before setting off and provided bike helmets too. He also showed us the new observatory which should be fantastic once it is fully up and running.

We absolutely will return (maybe to the amazing Retreat which Graham gave us a tour of) and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We stayed for a week in The Retreat in June 2021 and had a delightful time. The owners really have invested in making this a truly luxurious place with everything catered for. The cottage is beautiful with the added enjoyment of the spa pool. The living room, which is a lovely and very comfortable room, has amazing views over the Cheviot Hills and the garden. The garden has the most majestic trees both at the back and front of the cottage. We sat and just enjoyed reading and watching the birds and trees everyday on the patio area. The nearby cafe is very convenient and one can access and walk into the very beautiful Cheviot Hills without having to drive there if wanted. The surrounding countryside is very special and this is such a relaxing place and area to spend time in.
Graham and Trisha are great hosts as they are there if needed but very respectful of one’s privacy. We loved our stay at this unique and high spec property.

Hi. No bluetooth in our cottage that we recall. We used their CD player that was OK. And DVD through the TV. Again was OK.
