We were lucky enough to win Channel 5 Yorkshire Vet competition and stayed at this great hotel as guests of the hotel and Channel 5. We will definitely return to this family owned and run hotel. It’s a great Yorkshire welcome from all the staff and the service is exceptional. You can really tell this is a family run business. Dales room was excellent and views from the room were superb. We ate in the view restaurant and the quality of food and service did not disappoint. Try the clay pigeon shooting. I loved it and found a new hobby, my wife maybe not. Thanks your instructor Ian. Well done you made our day. We also tried the Land Rover off Road experience. This was great and who knew a 120 grand car could leant that far. Thanks to Damien your knowledge and patience was much appreciated. Finally we went to the Spa. What a joy and a great way to spend an afternoon. Gym is very well equipped. We met the Owner Mr Banister. What I gent and throughly nice chap. Great venue. Well worth a visit.

I booked for a Sunday night Spa Break between Xmas & N.Year for myself and my husband on the back of attending a wedding 7/8 years previously. WOW, our experience had heightened. From booking direct to leaving. Our room was very comfortable, having everything you needed and with a beautiful view of the lake. We arrived at the Spa which is a 2min outside walk to the facilities. Having prebooked a 2 hr time slot, my husband had to return to our room as he had forgotten something, to which I thought I would have to clock watch, I was instantly assured not to worry we would not be on a timer. The facilities were amazing, but don't just take my word for it. We had a cheeky cocktail while in the jacuzzi and had plenty of time to relax befoe our 2 hours where up, there were staff around but not in your face, only on hand if needed. There are also outside spa facilities, it was slightly drizzly outside and cold, though you would not have known, as when you went into the jaccuzi the water was to perfection ! Overall all of the staff, were knowledgeable, proffesional and friendly, making this hotel a welcoming experience without the pompousness, which made us totally relax. We both said we would love to come back, as the restauran food was equally superb (SEE our Review of THE VIEW Restaurant ) Keep up the good work. Michelle & Stuart Clark

Thank goodness we were only booked for one night in this very below average accommodation. The bed was comfortable and the decor in the bedroom was ok, although very thin walls. However the bathroom left a lot to be desired as grout and sealant were very dirty with a considerable amount of mould present. I have included photographs to show an example of the standard. We had no drinking water in the room which I dont think I have ever come across before. We bought some from the bar and were told it wasn't part of our package! We only paid £170 B&B! Also as a regular spa user I really don't understand how the spa has gained an award? Yes the facilities are quite good but on my visit, there were too many people booked in ( was this because of there being an offer on?) ieaving no loungers available and nowhere to hang my robe/towel. It did clear a little after about 30- 45 mins. Not very relaxing. Also as my first visit I would have expected a member of staff to take me in to the spa with a brief intro to the facilities rather than being told to go through the door to my right and referred to as " lovey" by the member of staff on the desk. I appreciate a friendly apprach but not that level of unprofessional, disrespecful, over familiar term of address. We had quite a pleasant evening meal with most of the food being tasty but not very hot. However one of my group was not happy with their meal and when he brought it to the attention of the waiter after a moment he was told "the chef had gone home". A more senior member of staff did come over after a few minutes and a different dish was ordered which was satisfactory. I did mention my disappointment of our stay to 2 members of staff when we checked out the following morning, showing one of them the photographs of the disgusting bathroom. They both apologised but didn't advise on complaints procedure or give me a point of contact to express my dissatisfaction to. I honestly would not waste your money at this hotel. Talk about rip off!! There are plenty of fabulous hotels, B&Bs etc. with or without spas in this country. Choose somewhere else please! This place does not deserve your custom. Since staying at the Coniston I have been offered an up grade (due to my survey ) on a future visit because of my complaint! No chance! This would mean we were putting more money into the pockets of people who don't actually give a damn! There are too many fabulous " clean" places to stay with greater value for money (and I dont mean cheap) better customer complaints procedures and many that don't need customer complaints because they are so good! Signing off as a thoroughly dissatisfied customer

Recently paid a visit to this hotel and had an excellent experience. This hotel is in a beautiful position and has very spacious grounds. The service throughout our visit was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and had everything we needed for our overnight stay. We dined in the restaurant and the food was very good. The breakfast was typically Yorkshire, large and hearty. We are going to return for a longet stay and hope to have the same experience. Keep up the good work.

This is a modern hotel set on a hillside overlooking the estate from which it takes its name. The views are stunning and fully exploited in both the main restaurant and in the neighbouring health spa. It's a good place to stay. Not exceptional, but certainly good, and you got the sense that most of the staff were focused on ensuring high standards of service with a friendly, informal style that seemed to fit the surroundings perfectly. Well done to them. The food was variable, from the outstanding 'Full Yorkshire' breakfast (oh, those mushrooms!) to an evening 'fine dining' experience that lacked the finesse and subtlety to justify the moniker. The spa is set apart from the hotel and guests are expected to walk across the windswept/wet/frosty [delete as appropriate] car park in their swimming cozzies and dressing gowns to get there. Nobody thought of building a glazed walkway between the two buildings, clearly. The spa was very good and well maintained, although a shift-change whilst we were there was noticeable: it went from discreetly attentive staff, serving and tidying as they went to uncollected cocktail glasses and the absence of bar staff for long periods. I'd give it 6 out of 10.

An amazing hotel ❤️. The rooms. The staff. The vibe. The food. All of it. I don’t know where to start. Staff. All are super friendly and helpful. In The View restaurant, Ben, Kevin, Audrey, Leanne (I think, 5’ tall with a soft Scottish accent) the tall ginger guy with glasses. All were magnificent and helpful. A proper credit to the hotel. FoH: always there to help out with query’s etc. Noting was too much trouble. In the McLeod lounge and bar. The staff in there were also fantastic. I didn’t get any of their names but those who work in there on a regular basis please take a bow 👏🏻👏🏻. They made the first port of call in the hotel a welcome one. To the shooting range. Excellently set up for clay pigeon shooting, archery and air rifle (which is what we did) Graham who was our instructor was an absolute gent. Making it all about fun and dropping in knowledge to two complete novices. Malcom who was in the nest range to us taking a family through archery lessons seemed every bit as helpful. Graham even gave us a lift back to the hotel as it was raining. The room: ours was a Superior room. Nice and spacious and well appointed. Great view as well. The food: all of it was delicious. Breakfast I went for the Yorkshire breakfast option. Very very nice. My wife had the eggs Benedict, that too was fantastic. We had lunch in the McLeod lounge picking from the nibbles menu. Absolutely couldn’t fault it. The sweet sticky sausages were my favourite. Onto The View restaurant for evening meal. Between us we had most of the menu and each dish was stunning. A good offer of wines and well. You really can’t fail to eat well here. The spa: we had the 2 hour use of the saunas and pool etc. Very nice it was as well. The outdoor hit tubs seemed very popular and were always full. We stayed inside and used the saunas and pools, also finding a seat and ordering up cocktails every now and again. We then went for a full aromatherapy body massage. Quite possible one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m so sorry I didn’t get the name of my masseuse. She did tell me but I forgot. She was blonde, short and with an foreign accent I could quite place. Her hand we the instruments of the angels!! I left feeling like I was on cloud nine. The spa set up, changing rooms, restaurant and treatment rooms were all so nicely appointed, again an absolute credit to the hotel. I could go on about the hotel even more but I’ve gotta end it somewhere. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay here. You won’t regret it. 💕💕

My Husband and I usually stay at The Devonshire but wanted to visit Malham Cove so thought this looked of an equivalent standard.....WRONG... We were called by the Hotel a few days before to run through the booking, during which we were told that we would have to book and pay to have access to the Spa area. For the price that we were paying I would expect this to be included, however, that wasn't the only issue as unless we wanted to go at dawn there was no availability. The food was sub standard in both restaurants and the feel of the place is really uninviting, its more akin to a conference centre. We paid for a suite which was quite bizarre, the room itself had a table and a couch but next door was just a cold musty room with a TV and two chairs. We will definitely not be staying again.

My Fiancé booked this weekend break for us as a celebration for our engagement. We had a meal included on both the Friday and Saturday night. We stayed in a deluxe room which was lovely and spacious with a nice terrace and enormous bathroom. Everything was lovely and clean, just a bit dated. The meal on the Friday night was in McLeod's bar which is a really lovely area, great decor and wood burners to make it cosy. The staff were polite and helpful but we're not that strong on the basics. We waited a long time to be served drinks and food. There were not that many choices on the menu which is not a bad thing if the meals are cooked really well. We both opted for the sausage and mash for the main course and we were both disappointed. The sausage was a very plain pork sausage which didn't taste of anything. The mash was nice but the onions and gravy were also pretty tasteless. Overall it was very bland and I didn't eat half of it. It was also served in bowls as if we were children. The bowl had high sides which actually made it difficult to cut up the food. I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was barely warm and served with ice cream only, no choices of toppings. Again I didn't eat much of this. The staff were slow to clear the plates, happily wandering around the room and petting dogs, returning to the kitchen empty handed when there were dishes to be cleared. Breakfast on Saturday morning was in The View restaurant which is also a really lovely room, nicely decorated with a great view, even in gim weather. It took a long time for someone to come and take our order and we both chose a Yorkshire breakfast but I had to send mine back, as it was cold. It came back from the kitchen a few minutes later with everything nice and hot apart from the scrambled eggs which were still cold so I couldn't eat them. My partner's food was tepid at best and he decided to just leave it rather than wait for it to be re cooked On Saturday, we also visited the spa which is really lovely. It was overpriced in my opinion though, having to pay £40 each to visit for 2 hours even though we were staying at the hotel. We had our meal on Saturday night also in the View and to be fair, the food this time was nice. I was only disappointed by the fact that I couldn't have any custard with the apple crumble. Apparently it is deconstructed which is why it costs £11 and is too fancy for custard. The food was nice, but again the evening was let down by the service. We were offered complimentary bread because the food would take a while to come, even though the restaurant was half empty. The bread never arrived and we waited 45 minutes for a drink. Again, the plates were not cleared in a timely manner with staff just walking past empty handed. When we did get wine I asked for an ice bucket because we were sat by the fire and it was very warm. Instead we got a pint glass with some ice and a teaspoon. Breakfast on Sunday morning was still not great. We went for eggs Benedict this time and the eggs were overcooked and there was not enough hollandaise. This time the plates were taken from around me as I was still eating which is also not acceptable. Overall, the hotel and spa are very nice, all communal spaces are really well decorated and cosy. The restaurants really let this place down.

We have always nipped to the coniston for a quick night away! Close to home fab spa, feels like you’re miles away from home! Last time I stayed with mother in law and had a few problems with house keeping mentioned it to staff, thought be ok as Been a couple of months saw a deal to up grade to stay with hubby went along lovely relaxing spa as always I’m soo glad we didn’t pay for the upgrade as so disappointing with the room.. to say you can get a good standard hotel at a better quality is unreal!! An upgraded deluxe room should be deluxe I can’t see how.. ? They was marks all over the head board 🤢 and the house keeper hadn’t checked the bedding as big rips in the duvet cover, not just 1, mold all by the door and onto the Lino. No one especially guests should breathe in mold spores!! I did do an on line review from the hotel with no response.. but to me it’s not 4 star it’s at best 2 stars for its rooms ! For how expensive it is! The evening meal was nice and the young gentleman was a pleasure to have excellent service from him .

A joint celebratory significant birthday and wedding anniversary overnight stay. We thought this place would be a little special. Room was disappointing, cold, very average and tired looking. No bottled water, no fresh milk, cheap tea/coffee no refrigerator. Shower over bath and tired looking towels. Pretentious overpriced restaurant full of spider webs on lamps and again very cold. Extremely small portions and an £18+ surcharge on the food bill which we disputed and which was eventually scrapped. Staff were doing a good job under difficult circumstances. Very disappointing.
