Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We love the Wheatsheaf. Visited again last week (family of 5) for early evening dinner. Reception from mine host and the staff warm, friendly and hospitable. Waitress very helpful over belly pork menu choice, as it turned out the dish was excellent. Well done chef, you needn't have worried! All other dishes superb. We will be back soon, visiting the area again in May, the Wheatsheaf number one choice.

Staying in Sleights we popped in by chance early Saturday evening to find out they were fully booked. Sitting in the cosy bar, the manager clearly took pity on us and ‘squeezed us in’. We were so pleased he did. The food was fabulous. I had the nut roast with fresh veg and Hubbie had the pork belly, which he declared sublime! Somehow we managed to rally round and polish off a delicious bread & butter pudding. Great atmosphere in the bar, welcoming and warm.

Visited the pub for a lunchtime meal for the first time on 7th November 2023. Very welcoming on arrival and a nice open fire going next to where we were seated. The food was excellent and plentiful. Will certainly visit again. Lovely pub and atmosphere felt very relaxed.

Very friendly, cosy beautiful Pub/Restaurant, we stayed in Grosmont just 10 minutes away, we were there 5 days and ate here twice, the food is exceptional! I just wish we lived closer and could go all the time! The Customer service is brilliant! Managed to squeeze us in on a very busy night at short notice. We will definitely go back when we return for another Holiday .

Great environment and delicious food cooked to perfection . 4 adults all had different starters and mains. Desert mini triple was a great idea to sample the menu. The deserts did not disappoint. Backed by professional, friendly and helpful staff. We will be returning on our next trip to Whitby

Stayed in the village for a week, at the end of May and was very impressed with this inn, they served excellent beers and outstanding food (try the Crab Linguine, absolutely fantastic and melt in the mouth), so good in fact that we used them for three evenings of our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful, having great knowledge of the village and the surrounding area and the wait staff were incredible, with their friendly, happy service. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area, we intend to go back ourselves next time we are there.

Amazing service. Exceptionally friendly staff and the food was outstanding. We we definitely return here when we next come up this way. I definitely recommend the lamb and then the strawberry ice cream for pudding. The kids meals are fabulously presented and my son said his burger was very tasty. Without a doubt a superb place to go.

Due to trip advisor reviews we decided to call for lunch today. I can say we were not disappointed. Two beef burgers and a fish stew. All excellent quality and delicious 😋 Mine was the fish stew and I would say it was better than any I’ve had in popular fish restaurants.

After looking at the reviews on Trip Advisor of eateries in and around Whitby, I decided on the Wheatsheaf and was very pleased with my choice. I would definitely recommend you pre-book as we had and they were fully booked that night. From starters to the sweats we couldn't fault it, my husband and I went with some friends and all of our plates were empty, even to the point my piece of bread was used by my friend to mop up the sauce he had left on his plate. Lovely atmosphere, extremely friendly staff. We will definitely be coming back here.
