Mixed feelings about this hotel. It was my birthday and I brought my husband and my toddler. The pool was wonderful and the room was fine. The main issue was the service at the restaurants. The servers were very amateur and the dining experience was very poor. On the night of my birthday dinner, we could hear the kitchen staff arguing in the kitchen the whole time and complaining it would be a long night. I wrote in the booking that it was a significant birthday and literally nothing, no glass of bubbly or any sort of recognition. The server forgot to give us the specials and we only heard them because they told them to the next table over. The food was very poor quality and expensive for what it was. Honestly I was not impressed at all. Pretty much zero seasonal vegetarian options. And the pub located nearby, the black sheep, had no customers and poor customer service and was the same price as the restaurant in the main hotel claiming to be award winning. Overall I was disappointed by my birthday experience and wished we went elsewhere. Hope this review helps someone else!

A decent hotel, with good spa and ameneties. I stayed here with my wife as part of a trip in March 2024. This a good hotel with decent options however can be improved upon. I stayed just before easter, during school holidays which was my error. The hotel was very busy with a lot of families around. Depending on what you want out of this, it may take away from the relaxing approach. Our room was good, with a comfortable bed, however the room has an aged feel to it and does need moderisation. The bathroom is basic, with good sink and mirror however is quite small, with low shower (not ideal for someone who is tall), which also leaks water onto floor on occasion. The room was unfortunately a fair walk from the spa, at the far end of the hotel, which can be the case on a short hotel with only a few floors. The spa was unfortunately very busy with the jacuzzi full almost of the time. As mentioned before there were a lot of children. There is a standard size pool, with suana and steam room too. There are about 8 poolside seats, so if its busy you are likely to miss out here. There are 'child free' times but from what I saw these are not strictly enforced. The only time we managed to get access to full spa options was by going down at 7am. The breakfast is very good with table service and good options, with a bespoke approach to breakfast options. In the evening this area forms a high quality restaurant. This is ok; middle standards, by no means 5 star. With 5 star prices and 3-4 star food. There are other nearby food options you may want to consider. Staff were kind and helpful. The car park outside is £3 per night I think, not the pricey options advertised; staff will give you scanning tickets for access if you go out during the day. A good hotel, but avoid the holidays.

Dear rj-newhorizons, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. The hotel is in a great location for families to visit local attractions so on holiday periods, we do welcome a number of children to stay with us. There are children's hours within the pool to ensure that we cater to both families and other guests that would like a quieter swim. Thank you for your feedback on your bedroom. I am delighted to share that we have a rolling investment program for our bedroom product which allows us to constantly invest in our hotel. Alongside that we have an internal refresh program so I have shared your feedback with our Maintenance Team to ensure that these are addressed. I do hope that we are able to welcome you back to the hotel for a quieter, improved experience in the near future. Kind Regards Nadine

Shame I can’t put zero stars. We Went to check in and Rooms “Wasn’t ready” apparently so we waited 4 hours and still not ready despite booking months in advance was told we had access to spa and fitness facilities until our room was ready but the Rude Spa staff said otherwise ended up cancelling in the end as it was getting late and spa facilities was gonna close by the time we got checked in Honestly would have been better off booking the ibis budget.

This is just a review for the restaurant so I've given three stars as average but the eating experience is a one. I have to eat there semi regularly for business. It's certainly not a cheap option... knocking on £30 for a main which doesn't include veg. For that I would expect a decent menu but if you prefer to eat less meat for whatever reason, forget it. A few in my party are either vegetarian, vegan or just prefer veggie options but several of us end up eating fish because the vegetarian options are so poor. Last time I went there wasn't even a vegetarian option on the main menu... One meat, one fish, that's yer lot. There were some uninspiring options on the back (squash tagliatelle sounded particularly unappetising) so fish it was again. And there's no nut roast on a Sunday... It's not much fun watching your colleagues tuck in to all the trimmings when your option is a depressing risotto. These days so many people (including carnivores) choose to eat less meat for many reasons and most establishments recognise this ... I haven't seen a menu this grudging since the 80s. I did email afterwards to engage privately but received no reply.

Our room looked nothing like the pictures online. I suspect we were given an older room that hadn't been decorated yet. It looked like the decor/furniture my nana Jean would have loved besides the stains. The spa allows children between 4-7. Nothing ruins the relaxation vibes quite like toddlers jumping in the hot tub and screaming in the pool. It's a leisure centre not a spa. Given it 2 stars as the place was at least clean and had a coffee machine in the room and soft robes for the spa. Overall, I felt scammed.

Bar and wait staff were attentive and polite, couldn’t have asked for better hospitality in all fairness, loved the fresh milk machine on the landings too, great idea Room was clean and comfortable, with decent towels and toiletries, the bar area is really nice as well as the food hall, the food was amazing in both the bar and the breakfast! we didn’t get the use of the spa but the overall experience was definitely one we enjoyed

Absolutely shocking, called because the room service option doesn't work on the TV. Told a menu will be brought to the room (feeling horrendous so cannot leave) left it 30 minutes and called back to be told they are on the way. Guess they got lost because another 20 minutes and still no sign. Finally tried to put an order in to be told sorry card reader won't work we can't do room service. Thank you very much - explained I'm diabetic, cant get out at this point, so left without food. I get things go wrong but had I been told the menu would be best part of an hour or it couldn't be done I would at that point have had an option to sort it. Really not good enough.

We booked this as a treat for my birthday and mother’s day. Although the entrance is all presented well, quite a lot of things were broken in our room or not quite right. I will list those below. The bedding is great, tea and coffee + fridge great + spacious room. The phone was out of action, the tv only had terrestrial as something wrong with connection which wasn’t great for us as we’d planned to watch a Netflix (w own account) family film on the big telly as we haven’t got one at home, one of the bed reading lights was broken, the bathroom mirror light was broken so had to use phone torch use the bathroom when our son was asleep. The shower sprayed over the floor as the head was broken. There were teenagers chasing each-other loudly up and down the corridors constantly between 21.00-22.30, the room doors are super loud so up until 00.00 expect lots of banging. Welcome sleep packs were incomplete and it was pretty dusty. The spa facilities are great but basic, with not enough loungers and definitely not enough pegs to hang robes and towels so people use the benches as dumping piles for them. There are no floor squidgies so you’re always walking through puddles of water near the sauna and steam room. Staff were friendly.

We stayed at the Aztec West on Saturday, the 24th of February 2024 (a trip for the end of half term), and I have to say that Aztec West is not the Aztec West I knew many years ago. Having stayed there in Sept 2022, I already thought things had gotten bad. But during this last trip, I had an experience I’ve never had at a hotel. Not even at a bed and breakfast. We arrived quite late, after 11:00, because we had car problems during the journey, and there was only a single staff member on duty to cater to the entire hotel. When we got in our room, the beds were not joined to make a queen as was originally booked. I decided to move the beds and lock them in place personally since the guy just seemed clueless. I was happy to choose to do that even though I am a paying customer. But when this staff member was then asked to change the bedding to one that fits a queen bed, what he did was not only a shock but certainly a step too far. He came back, knocked on the door, and literally tried to hand over the bedding and duvet for me to make our bed for the night. I have never seen that before. I mean, I had to tell him he needed to fit the bed, and he then said something like, “Oh, I need the bed sheets.” He walked off, came back, and made a shabby, rushed attempt to make the bed. Whilst making the bed, he flung the duvet he had brought over and the bedding all over the floor. He did such a rubbish job that I HAD TO REMAKE MY BED before we could go to sleep. You would think our stay got better after all of that, but no, it got worse or just remained terrible. The room was freezing cold because the heating wasn’t working. This same single staff said he will fix it at least 3 times, one of which was when I spoke to him on the phone after waiting for a long time. At the third time, he came to the room with two mobile heaters and still said he will get it fixed. Of course, all that promise of fixing it was a lie. We woke up the next day, and the heating was not fixed. I only turned on one of the two mobile heaters, thinking I wouldn’t want the room to be too hot when the main heating gets fixed overnight. But with only one heating unit turned on and the main heating not fixed, of course, the room was not particularly warm! I had to turn on the second one in the morning quickly. All of this is besides the ridiculousness of having mobile heaters all over a hotel room (pictures attached). I am not making a single thing up here, and it is certainly the lowest level for AZTEC WEST. I kept thinking the next thing might be that we would be asked to go and cook our own breakfast or wash the bathroom, perhaps. Having said that, breakfast was the only good thing as usual, but boy, was I so glad I was booked into Leonardo for a work trip on the Wednesday following this horrible stay at the Aztec West. Lessons learned. I WILL NEVER STAY AT AZTEC WEST EVER!
