Saw a bargain offer for this hotel and decided to take advantage. I expected it to be old fashioned inside and whilst it is an old building it just gave the impression of a warm, welcoming house, with lots of lovely features. Our room was large, bright and comfortable, with beautiful views through the amazing bay window. Bathroom was fresh...

Just had three days at Friars Carse,,loved it ! Full of character and loads of history, very polite and professional staff always smiling and helpful.Dined In the restaurant twice and had one bar meal, couldn't fault the food in the restaurant (exceptional) every meal. However we had the burger as the bar meal and although it was excellent it was advertised...

This was a typical country house retreat and although furnishings were a little tired looking, staff were very welcoming and ambience was good. Slight warm turn in weather must have caught them out as I found the dining room and bedrooms uncomfortably hot. Food was excellent - a good choice using some fresh and well cooked local produce. No soggy...

Purchased and booked afternoon tea for 4 people via groupon site with confirmation for last Friday. Travelling from Leeds and Manchester to get there for 13.45 so we could treat our sister who lives in the area for her birthday, the hotel decided to cancel our booking informing us it had to cancel our booking as they were over booked,...

Absolutely brilliant. Staff were very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Lounge area was delightful: roaring fire, comfortable sofas. The room was amazing.... large suite with sitting area looking over the front of the hotel towards the lake. Dinner was lovely (both nights): good food: it's reassuring for two vegetarians that a traditional Scottish hotel could cater so well for...

Good points and bad points. First the good, great location and has that country house feel to it with large public room, open fire, large comfortable sofa to unwind and enjoy a drink or two, fabulous feature staircase leading to what i presume is the main part or hotel with regards to rooms. Staff were friendly enough. Now to not...

Last time I stayed in Dumfries the only place I could find that took dogs was the Travelodge and it was a pretty grim experience. I found the Friars Carse on line and it looked like a magnificent country estate with a delightful big old house. It didn't disappoint...from the fantastic front door, the paneled reception area and long lounge...

Stayed here a few times now. The room upgrades are welcome so we hope they do more. Our friends stayed in one this time we had one of the older more 'shabby chic' style rooms. Didn't worry us at all. Lovely location with some great deals on offer. Peaceful, restful and just old world quaint - and now with some...
