Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited here for a special birthday - the experience was amazing we had use of the spa and I had a tranquil sleep massage which was amazing. We had cream tea and an evening meal all of which was exceptional!, catering for gluten free was not a problem at all. Staff were happy and did everything to help, nothing was a problem We had to move rooms as the midgets were bad in one of the rooms, we were quickly moved into a different room.

Ardencote is a lovely hotel with very professional, and conscientious staff. All staff done a great job room cleaned to a high standard. Dining room staff very efficient polite and welcoming. They were responsive without being intrusive. Couldn't fault them. Bar staff again really courteous, professional and the barman sorry don't remember his name he offered to make any cocktail I wanted even if not on list when I suggested a cocktail made with rum he came up with a really amazing cocktail which I thoroughly enjoyed. Reception staff most helpful too. Would definitely stay again beautiful hotel fab facilities amazing food let chefs know! and surroundings are stunning. Please let all staff know about this review.

No spa staff to greet us just the young man from the gym who did not show us around. More than 12 guests in the spa in the morning session. Walls and floors in the spa were dirty, so was the changing rooms and we did not see a single cleaner all day from 9:30-4:40pm. Lunch was poor. My facial was not able to go ahead and they never offered me a selection of different body treatments instead they just gave me one which was not good for me. Poor experience over all and not worth £130 at all. Do not recommend

Room Tip: The ultimate spa day experience is not worth it. Much better value at Banantyne

We were very impressed from the moment we arrived. Attention to detail was evident, very clean and tidy and the staff are super friendly. We got the feeling that this wasn't a corporate group hotel and we're pleased when we were told it was indeed family owned. Spa break deal was exceptional value and the food was excellent! We will be back!

We have just returned from our stay at this hotel and really cannot understand the reviews on here which slate the staff and the hotel. The hotel was built in the late 1800's so is obviously not a new trendy hotel but anyone booking knows that already. The staff were absolutely brilliant, every one of them from Eleanor in reception to all the bar, spa and restaurant staff. The Manager in the restaurant was extremely efficient. We had a scone/clotted cream and jam included as we arrived which were scrummy, We received our evening meal promptly and it was delicious so compliments to the chef too. I am diagnosed coeliac and at no point was I made to feel a burden nor was I given an allergen folder to search through which is one of the most annoying things ever. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend. The only negative point I would make, and it is trivial, is that the welcoming carpeting as you enter the hotel could be far more attractive and clean as it is the first impression you are greeted with. Otherwise no concerns at all. Thank you.

We have just returned after a 2-night stay here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and it was lovely. The rooms are very clean and a good size with a very comfy bed. The staff in both the hotel and the spa are the friendliest I have come across in a long time. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The only thing I would say is that overall, the whole place could be doing with a bit of modernisation but it's nothing that affects the quality of the stay. Thank you !

We booked a one-night DBB break for my birthday through Secret Escapes and have a very nice break; it would be good to come back again and stay a little longer. Next time I'll be packing my table tennis things to take on all-comers! The hotel team were all very friendly and helpful, from arranging a room in the requested Courtyard area including an early check-in, through to the dining room experience inclusive cream tea, dinner and breakfast, all of which were very good. The indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were available from 1200 on arrival and we relaxed there before dinner. The hotel grounds make a lovely post-breakfast walk and I imagine it will fantastic once the spring/summer arrives and everything's in bloom; not to mention the outdoor pool being open.

We've just had a fabulous week's break at Ardencote. All the staff are exceptional and congratulations must especially go to Andrew and his team, with a special mention for Abhi, who together with the other staff in the bar and restaurant made it such a nice experience. The food is good and the speed of service in the restaurant is the best we've ever encountered in any hotel. The reservation and reception staff also made sure we had everything we needed as did the cleaning team. The room we had was lovely. Clean with a bright airy feel and spotlessly clean. The hotel has good leisure facilities and is in beautiful grounds, though is quite remote so you will need a car. Despite the five star review, I always like to give a few bits of feedback for areas that could be improved: 1. The leisure facilities were closed for four days for emergency maintenance. We had to ask for a refund for the inconvenience. It would have been nice if this had been offered automatically. 2. The orange juice at breakfast is not nice. Tastes like orange squash 3. The common areas in the hotel - corridors, bar, restaurant are cold. The rooms are fine but more could be done in the colder months to heat the hotel 4. My wife's dietary requirement were catered for but as a gluten free dairy free person she had to have the same dessert each night. Would have been nice if at least one other option had been offered as we notified of the requirements well in advance. Overall, a brilliant hotel and experience and we will be back.

Pros to this hotel are the food is good quality, it’s clean and it’s in a lovely rural area. Cons are the rooms and communal corridors are tired, the bar closes early (last orders 10.45pm then kicked out by 11.30pm on a Saturday night) You also have to pay £5 to hire a robe for the pool if you’re not on a spa day. We had an issue with our first room so the manager recommended we move rooms and arranged this without any fuss or it interrupting our evening.
