Overnighted here whilst walking the Dales Way. The barman ,whose name I've forgotten ,was helpful and chatty and provided me with newspaper for my wet boots
A comfortable pub with Real Ale , a tasty dinner in the bar that evening.
Next morning they kindly arranged for me to have breakfast a bit earlier

Dent is a fascinating old ,small town/ village ...didn't have time to explore as I was tired when I arrived and wanted to continue the Dales Way next day

Currently the road is closed from Ribblehead to Cowgill and Dent so there is a very long 45-minute (or more) diversion via Hawes and Sedburg! People in light cars should consider taking a left turn at Garside station and go over the top of the hills to Dent Station, then on to Dent. This route is not signposted. Staff need to warn everybody possible of this, especially when when taking telephone bookings.

There were plenty of young efficient staff who are attentive and helpful with regard to gluten-free options.
The menu was more than adequate and prices very reasonable although the chocolate mousse was thick and heavy. My tasty lamb shank could have been hotter, just an extra blast in the oven or microwave wood suffice. Overall: a little bit of attention to one or two food details would take the establishment to a higher level. We were quite happy, I will be back.

Room Tip: Check-out the road closures to Dent. Two of the three roads to Dent are down single track lanes....

We booked to stay 1 night in a family room as an overnight stop en route to our main holiday destination. The room was adequate but was very shabby and very dated. In fact the whole property is badly in need of a refurbish. Breakfast was nice but my wife had to ask for a clean cup as hers was dirty and once the waiter had brought out our breakfast, she disappeared and did not appear again to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. Definitely not worth the money and I think the staff could do with a few lessons in hospitality.

The room we were allocated was below an acceptable standard with peeling plaster in the bathroom and bits of missing wallpaper. It looked as though fittings had been removed and then the area not repaired. Overall the accommodation is very much in need of renovation, new carpets (the stair carpets smelled of smoke and were filthy), some updated furniture - all in all it needs a total rethink, especially if the owner wants to continue charging £130 per night.
We were offered another room which was slightly less depressing.
Two members of staff including the Manager agreed with our assessment of the accommodation and pricing. We had the impression that staff were trying their best in difficult circumstances.

We had room two on the top floor, nice view over the rooftops to the hills. The room was warm, we had to turn the heating down. The bed is just how I like it , nice and springy and soft with perfect fresh ironed sheets and quilt cover. There is a selection of teas and coffee and a kettle and also a small flatscreen tv. The bathroom had towels and toiletries and a shower over a nice deep bath. The hot water pressure amazing ! We had a meal in the evening and what we chose was very nice, Carole had pie of the day and I had Cajun chicken, it was perfectly acceptable and we enjoyed it.
Breakfast was also very nice. There were juices, and a choice of four cereals whilst waiting for my full English breakfast which I might say was excellent. The bacon was very nice as was the sausage all local everything else very nice also. We settled our bill after breakfast and pleasantly surprised and happy with the price and the whole experience. Thank you to the lady that cooked and served breakfast, keep doing what your doing great job 👏
I don’t overate things when I review I say it as it is.

We stayed at the George & Dragon after a day hiking in the Yorkshire Dales. Dent is a gorgeous village and the George & Dragon adds to its character and charm. Bedrooms are comfortable but somewhat dated and that’s why it’s rated four stars as opposed to the full five (refurbishments are reportedly planned). Restaurant was frantically busy on a Saturday evening but mostly young staff were coping well. Delicious, locally-sourced food and a good selection of beers from nearby independent breweries. The hotel has recently been taken over by a dynamic young couple who have exciting plans and seem genuinely to care about their staff and the service they provide. Apparently the previous owners had been struggling to maintain standards so it might be wise not to be unduly influenced by any older, negative reviews on this site. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for one night while walking the Dales Way. Staff were all very young but friendly. The room was very dated and having pulled the bed out a little to plug in a charger wished I hadn’t, clearly it had not been cleaned for some time. Stair carpet was very tired and whole building in need of some updating.

We were asked to complete an order for breakfast and hand it in the night before. List stated there would be cereals, fruit and yogurts available and hot food had to be ordered. We both ordered 2 poached eggs, ‘a’ mushroom and toast. On arrival at breakfast there was no yogurt or fruit. The hot food was delivered by a young boy, presumably the managers son, and when asked about the yogurt and fruit he informed us ‘the order didn’t come in’! One of the poached eggs was not cooked properly and was not eaten. Toast was delivered after asking for it, with no choice of white or brown. No individual milk jugs on the table. Each table had to use the large milk jug for the cereal for tea and coffee. Overall, a very disappointing experience and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Other members of our group stayed in a B&B 2 minutes walk away which was 5 star, go there instead of this run down hotel if you are planning a trip to Dent.

From the surrounding areas, right to the comfy bed. We loved every minute of our stay. The staff are great and nothing is too much for them to do to go that extra mile.

Even our dog was more than welcome

For our mains I had the Sunday lunch which was to die for the beef was cooked to a perfect medium my partner had the toad in the whole and I was jealous of her jus.

Honestly they might as well be giving it away for the price if you can't find comfort here you not trying hard enough :)

We had a lovely warm welcome from the girls in charge. Felt very Covid safe throughout our visit.

We both enjoyed our food and beer and were very grateful indeed of the warm welcome we received on such a wet evening.

Would return without hesitation.
