Horton Grange is a stunningly beautiful Country House Hotel, conveniently located close to Newcastle Airport, just a few minutes from the A1 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Despite our peaceful and very rural setting, Newcastle city-centre can be reached in under 15 minutes, making this hotel a very popular choice for guests with varying objectives. A former private home, the original building has been sympathetically converted and extended to blend original features with the needs and expectations of a contemporary modern hotel. From the moment you set foot on the premises, our aim is that you feel immediately relaxed and can just enjoy your surroundings, letting the team ensure your stay is really memorable. We have nine beautiful bedrooms, each quite different but all very much full of their own character. The business is wholly family-run, setting us quite apart from the proliferance of chain hotels – if you have a bespoke request, we’ll always endeavour to make it happen. The hotel restaurant boasts 2 AA Rosettes and the hard-working kitchen team work relentlessly alongside our Head Chef to create stunning cuisine, making the most of fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. Our bar area is friendly and relaxing and we have a well-stocked cellar with everything from wine from the classic regions through to more keenly priced emerging vineyards. We also boast a spectacular range of gins and a great selection of fizz! We’re also grounded enough to be conscious of our Newcastle roots and if you just want a really nice pint of lager, that’s fine too! We are blessed with the most stunning mature gardens and this helps to make us a very popular Wedding Venue – a myriad of photo opportunities are available to enhance the memories of our wonderful Brides and Grooms – we are fully licenced for civil ceremonies and are proud to be a truly inclusive venue, welcoming all couples to make this the perfect place in which to exchange the most important words they’ll ever say! If you want to make it special, make it Horton Grange.

I met up with friends at Horton Grange and as it was about 4pm we decided to have afternoon tea. It's a shame the place isn't busier because the food and service is fantastic. We ordered both normal and gentleman's afternoon tea and they were both delicious - just as described on the menu with lots of little cakes, with a good splattering of chocolate, freshly baked scones and dainty sandwiches. We both got doggy bags to go as we couldn't eat everything - highly recommended for a treat with family or friends.

Lovely old building dinner and breakfast very nice.Parking good lovely gardens lit at night..
Excellent service with a smile.
Twin room in the main house, with shower room very spacious and clean think recently refurbished as not like pictures on website.
Sneaky picture of a double room added. All four bedrooms face over the front of the hotel nice outlook. There are 5 chalet rooms adjacent to the house that look very nice and accommodate dogs..
Central for lots of sightseeing 20 mins from Newcastle and Whitley Bay, bit further to Alnwick Castle which is closed till April but the gardens were lovely, further to Hexham and Roman ruins...
Enjoyed it would return.

I can’t thank the staff at Horton Grange enough for my wedding day in October. From first meeting Nick and Katie to book to the day itself ran by Jackie and her team it was top class. My husband and I can’t fault one aspect of the whole process.

Communication was great, we enjoyed menu tasting prior and attended numerous appointments to ensure the day was planned around our exact wishes! The wedding day ran (quite unbelievably) smoothly thanks to Jackie and team (Jackie even swept away a muddy puddle for our confetti shot - it’s the little things that make a huge difference). The food was fantastic, the staff were helpful and polite to us and our guests, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the grounds are fabulous and the breakfast was fantastic too.

If anyone is thinking about getting married here I would absolutely recommend.

Thank you Team Horton Grange

We had been looking forward to this event for months . Overall a strange and mixed experience. The food was amazing and the chef should be congratulated. The hotel is lovely and my Mother and husband stayed the night and their room was good . But where was front of house? Poorly trained staff, a lack of staff , no meet and greet at the champagne reception, we were offered only one canapés....No owner or manager visible. Mix up with our table booking, we were sent last years menu by email to choose from , so it was different on the night. Difficult to order drinks at the table it at the bar. Basically very young and inexperienced staff, not their fault as they did their best , but would expected a lot more from a classy hotel. Disappointing.

Response from HG_General_Manager, General Manager at Horton Grange Country House Hotel
Responded 18 Jan 2020
Dear Mdcws, Thank you for your review, although somewhat disappointing to read. I must admit, I am a little shocked by this review as we (and i personally as I was on duty until the hotel closed, alongside the hotel operations manager) received such great feedback from so many of our guests on the evening. The guests were delighted that we had added a singer, alongside the DJ, on the night too, which was not advertised but certainly filled the dance floor! Thank you for your kind feedback regarding the food, I will pass this on to our head chef and his team. Also your positive feedback about your mother's stay is gratefully received. I will circulate your constructive criticism to the team and include in team training days. I am, however, so disappointed that you didn't feel you could mention your disappointment on the evening so that we could have endeavoured to rectify the issues prior to you leaving the hotel. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Nick Price General Manger

We had the most perfect wedding we ever could have wished for at Horton Grange. From our first visit to the actual wedding day all the staff and venue were brilliant.
Katie our coordinator was absolutely excellent, such a wonderful lady who is superb at her job. One of the most loveliest of ladies & it’s obvious she loves her job.
The communication through email, telephone was great. Nothing was ever too much trouble
Even all my non stop questions. They really did listen to our plans & implement them to such high standards.
The food was amazing also our wedding breakfast was delicious. Everyone with empty plates. Even our fussy children commented on how tasty all the courses were.
We had the doors open from the conservatory during our dinner which was beautiful and felt so relaxing.
The canapés & Prosecco were served outside which was lovely being able to celebrate outside with the guest and enjoy the beautiful grounds.

We really has the most amazing day and owe Nick , Katie & the team a big big Thank you for working so hard like they did, for making sure our day was the dream we always wanted & for guiding us through it all with such ease & friendliness.

I'm a wedding photographer and I work all over the North East. This is the first time I've been back to Horton Grange since it became a dedicated wedding venue (as opposed to a hotel that occasionally hosted weddings), and I am impressed.

The first thing that happened upon my arrival was the wedding co-ordinator Jackie checking in with me to go through timings and planning. I had confirmation of everything that was happening when right from the get go - no nasty surprises. Full rules of the venue i.e. where confetti was permitted, what was out of bounds etc. and I knew the day was in safe hands.

When it rained Jackie offered the barn for photos, and had the space ready when she said she would.

When the sun came out for confetti pictures, Jackie gathered the guests whilst I was taking portraits, and worked with me to get the best possible pictures for the happy couple.

Every step of the way she made the couple's experience the highest priority, gave clear and effective communication to me and the staff, was friendly, polite and helpful the whole day through.

Horton Grange is a beautiful venue, with clean rooms, friendly staff, great food, and a wedding team that cares. Can't wait to work here again!

Had the most amazing time at a friends wedding recently. Venue is beautiful and staff very attentive. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable experience on such a special day. The food was fantastic throughout and my partner particularly enjoyed the full English breakfast! Thank you to everyone for making our time with you so special.

Beautiful venue . Lovely grounds & so pretty . Stunning wedding for my Son & daughter-in-law & service & everything was perfect . Just outstanding! No other words to describe Horton Grange. We had our wedding here in February and it went like clockwork. Venue is beautiful and staff are just brilliant. Special thanks to Katie (wedding coordinator), Jackie who oversees wedding itself and a huge huge thanks to Ant who literally bent over backwards to ensure our photo wall ran smoothly!
Food was beautiful and exactly as we asked.
Rooms were immaculate
I truly cannot thank you guys enough
Wish I could do it all over again x

Hi. Young children are welcome for dinner. There are no specific child areas or play areas inside, but some nice gardens if the weather is fine. Main road is quite close to the main building but should not be a problem.
