After a hard slog on the Peddars Way, (whose vicissitudes I shan't go into here; suffice to say: proper walking boots and full attention to rehydration are a must!) I was made most welcome by Alison, the proprietress, and one of the other guests who helps out on an ad hoc basis. Vassily, the ad hoc helper, kindly took my...

I visited in November 2015 while walking the Peddars Way, and had a nice comfortable room with en suite. The Old Red Lion is a comfortable hostel-hotel with a shared self-service kitchen area for making tea, dinner and breakfast. Derek was looking after the hotel when I stayed and he was welcoming and friendly, offering advice regards where to get...

Alison has been running this hostel since the very earliest days of the Peddars Way. It has comfortable dorms (the curtains around each bunk are a lovely touch) and some private rooms. We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom (Anne's room I think). The room is not large but the bed is firm and comfortable, warm and clean....

7 of us were in here two couples in lovely en suite rooms and men in spacious dorm. Alison was friendly and welcoming enthusiastic about area and happy to discuss demo yoga. Having kitchen to do own healthy breakfast was fun and communal and outdoor space lovely as were two cats.

I've been going to the Old Red Lion ever since Patrick Field used it as an stopping point on a cycling weekend up the Peddars way back in the '90s. It's eccentric, but very welcoming, so I chose it for my birthday party this year over the early Spring Bank Holiday. We took over most of the hostel and had...

We arrived to find that one of the en suite rooms we had booked had been given away to someone staying longer and the promised bike storage shelter had also been given to some cyclists who were already staying. We were repeatedly woken throughout the night by an insomniac with a weak bladder pacing up and down and peeing loudly...

We were coming to Norfolk for the weekend to view houses, and needed somewhere to stay the night. It was last minute, and half term. Everywhere was booked solid, and your typical budget business hotel type accommodation was charging a premium, if they had any rooms. I saw The Old Red Lion on a hostel website, and gave Alison, the...

This is without doubt the worst place we have ever stayed at. A roaming cat was making itself comfortable on guests bed pillows in the dormitory. Thank goodness we were in a separate room. Although we knew it was to be a cold breakfast, we didn't expect the only food available to be bread. After toasting it, at least we...

I stayed at the Old Red Lion as part of a group. The hostel was warm and the owner was very welcoming. The breakfast was magnificent. The beds were comfortable but I think what made it special was the owner and having time to talk about her life and interests. A special place: well worth a visit.

Stayed one night whilst walking the Peddars Way. Had one of the double rooms separate to the main house which was ideal, like having our own little house which was light, airy and clean. Lots of hot water for showers. Used the kitchen for making tea (normal tea, loose earl grey, green tea, fresh coffee etc all available) and a...
