From the outset, our 3 night stay was very good. The staff were welcoming and even though we had arrived way in advance of check in time, our rooms were prepared early. The food is delicious and the menus are varied. Breakfast is excellent with a superb choice of hot food and pastries, fruit etc. The beds and bedding are of a superior quality, towels were changed each day. In particular, staff members Ryan, Laila and Mark were particularly helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. We travelled with our dog who was made very welcome too. Thank you.

It was our first hotel stay since the start of lockdown so we were very happy to make use of the dinner, b & b offer at £99 with Shepherd and Neame.
The Dog & Bear is in the lovely market town of Lenham, the accommodation has clearly been updated as everything in the room was spotless and well decorated, The bed was extremely comfortable although we had to ask for extra pillows but this was dealt with immediately by a very efficient lady on reception.
The bar area is very comfortableI but I must say it was extremely quiet throughout the hotel. Social distancing was properly observed and hand sanitisers were freely available all around the public areas. The 2 course meal in the evening was very good, we were taken care of by Chrissie in the restaurant area, she was very welcoming, helpful and obviously enjoyed her job.
The bar area closed at 9pm but this was not a problem as we finished our drinks in the charming little courtyard.
Breakfast was excellent although the pot of tea was lukewarm but drinkable.
All in all a lovely stay.

We stayed at the Dog and Bear during early July and were hugely impressed by the quality of the service, the value for money and the friendliness of the staff. From our arrival through to check out, nothing was too much trouble and this wonderful attitude greatly enhanced our stay. The room was immaculate and the food was of a consistently high quality. i would particularly highlight the Eggs Benedict.

We are happy to give The Dog and Bear our highest recommendation, and our thanks for making our short stay so enjoyable.

We rented 5 rooms in the hotel in December 2023. Our main complaint is that 4 of the rooms had no hot water. We spoke to the front desk about this and they blamed old building long pipes but we ran the water in all 4 rooms for quite some time and never got hot water. We do understand that older buildings have quirks but lack of hot water is never acceptable. The food in the pub was good and the beds were comfortable. We suggest to avoid room 4 as an adult taller than about 5-10 can’t stand upright in the room without hitting their head on the ceiling.

The rooms allocated to us were in the old part. It was hot, and the windows only opened a fraction. However there was a ventilator in the room.
The single room. is to be avoided at all costs. It was tiny, dirty, stuffy. The shower was dirty, the washbasin leaked water all over the floor - the entrance to the wing was filthy and worn. I paid £101.50 for this room for one night. This was daylight robbery! Fortunately, after complaining to the manager I was offered a superior double room, which was acceptable for the price, but did not compensate for a lost night's sleep in this disgusting single room.
Later I wrote to the managing director of Shepherd Neame hotels who agreed a refund of part of the cost.
The breakfast was inedible - I chose smoked salmon and scrambled egg - the egg was completely dry and inedible. The next day we had porridge which was sweet and runny.
We ate in the pub on Sunday night and had a very good meal in a pleasant atmosphere.
Just avoid booking a single room! And if you are a single person occupying a double room you will be charged for two breakfasts!!

On being shown our superior room, I was so disappointed by the bathroom that I went back over to reception and asked if we could be moved. The young lady staff member was very helpful and offered another room but the bathroom was only slightly better so we stayed in our ground floor room rather than go up stairs. the bathroom had peeling paint and black in between the tiles ,I was told that it was going to be redecorated soon but that didn't really improve it for us. The bedroom was nicely decorated and was clean and tidy and furnished well. We were well supplied with bottled water and coffee capsules for machine also biscuits each day. Could have done with more T-bags, 2 each day for 2 people but never got round to asking just switched to coffee. We stayed B&B and the breakfast was strange it was done with minimal service. In fact it seemed like the place was going broke and was saving on everything possible, there was no cereal and fruit buffet or any offered, the toast was served on the same plate on top of meal, no side plates for buttering . I have never before not been offered extra toast or more Tea/coffee , first morning we asked for more toast so we could use the jam/marmalade that was on table and the young guy had to go and ask if that was ok. the food was ok but had the same stingy feel , cheap sausages. On a good note we had a evening meal in restaurant which was very nice, this meal was booked at same time as room not sure would have booked if had breakfast first , the evening meal was so much better in all ways . All the staff were very nice, polite , well trained but sometimes hard to find.

We stayed overnight to break up a two-day journey. I had been looking forward to a change from the hotels we usually use in this area and reserved deluxe bedrooms as a treat. The bedrooms themselves were very clean and had big beds with good white linen, but unfortunately ours were right above a function suite with a loud party which vibrated up and prevented much, if any sleep. We had to be away very early and were tired. Not much sleep was had. It's great that people can now party again but very bad luck to pay quite a lot to try to sleep above someone else's party.
We also clearly hit a very bad evening in the restaurant. We were not in a good position right beside a large family group with very young, "lively" children. We felt we were intruding on their private party. Several items on the already quite short menu were unavailable, apparently due to Covid-19 and being short-staffed. We waited an hour for the starter as the function had priority for food. The waitress did apologise for the wait and the staff seemed to be trying their best in a difficult situation. The steaks we had for the main course were good, however it wasn't the relaxing "gastro pub" dinner we had hoped for and the general atmosphere in the front room we found unpleasant. Having to leave early in the morning we were unfortunately unable to give the restaurant a second chance and sample the included breakfast. A pity, as reading other reviews it sounds good.

Very nice stay in this lovely old Kent village. Good size room with ample size bathroom, shame the toilet roll holder was at sitting shoulder height and very in the way, needs moving higher or on to the door, We had booked B&B but had one night dinner in the restaurant and very good it was we recommend the food . The butter served in a ceramic bowl on the breakfast table would have been nicer than the paper one. Would have been nice to have been able to switch the right hand wall light over the bed but in fitting the bedhead to the wall it seams to have covered the switch. See pic. There seams to be a policy of, in the evening leaving the entrance door lock locked but not closed so every time someone comes in or out it bangs on the frame so annoying as was the tik tik of expanding hot water pipe in our wall when someone in another room use the hot tap. The trouser press needs moving right my wife walked into the protruding arm, the gap between it and the bed is restricted. But all in all very nice place.

We booked last minute and took our dog. Lenham is great for dog walking, has two pubs, independent shops, a convenience store, supermarket and lots of places to eat. There is also ample parking. We felt very welcome when we arrived as did our dog. The room we stayed in was recently decorated and very clean. The staff and food really made the pub for us, everyone we encountered was very friendly, helpful and happy. The food menu is small, which initially I thought was a bit disappointing but the small menu meant that the quality of ingredients exceeded my expectations. Breakfast was also good. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again.

We stayed at the Dog & Bear the day before attending a wedding in Lenham. We had dinner there & breakfast the next morning as well. The staff were friendly, the food was great and the kids menu satisfied our younger ones.
The rooms sizes were large enough for the 5 of us to sleep comfortably & they posted a couple of items I had left behind too.
All in all, the Dog & Bear was a great place to stay, eat & have a few beers. I could not fault them at all.
