Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Dog and Bear exceeded our expectations. If we stayed again we would have an upgraded room as they are brighter but value for money the standard room was great. Food, staff and location fantastic.

Visited as part of my birthday celebrations as a vegan with omni family. There was one vegan starter (cauliflower wings) - which we couldn’t eat due to intolerances, one nibble (hummus), two mains (pea ravioli - very runny sauce and quite flavourless and a veggie burger which was nice enough). Chips were perfect. For dessert there was only chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Definitely needs improvement in options and dishes.

The hotel it's self was lovely, staff very friendly. We stayed in the superior room and I couldn't fault it, it was lovely and spacious. However breakfast was a little disappointing, waited over 1 hr and full English came out cold and sausage uncooked. Also there was many dogs at breakfast, although this is a dog friendly hotel, I'm not sure at breakfast as lots of dog hairs on floor. Overall room was very nice.

Great quirky Hotel, need a map of the Hotel in order to get around. Only downside being the requirement to pay for drinks, meals etc., instead of being able to charge to the room. This is an archaic procedure !

The only reason that I visited was because I had a two-for-one mains offer. The truly helpful and charming waitress meant that I did not give it the lowest rating. My friend said that his pasta dish was okay but my fish and chips can best be described as 70's work's canteen quality and at £17.50 a disgrace. The chips were, just chips but the fish was meagre with some soggy batter. There was no choice of 'mushy' peas and the bright green frozen peas had not been drained adequately so sat in a pool of water. The bitter was more than £5 per pint-other pubs around here charge about £4.50.

Perfect resting place being within 20 minutes of the Channel Tunnel terminal. Friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere in bar and excellent menu. Really attentive staff too. Really enjoyed our stay, only comment is bedroom was quite drafty and therefore a touch cold.

We stayed at the Dog and Bear during early July and were hugely impressed by the quality of the service, the value for money and the friendliness of the staff. From our arrival through to check out, nothing was too much trouble and this wonderful attitude greatly enhanced our stay. The room was immaculate and the food was of a consistently high quality. i would particularly highlight the Eggs Benedict. We are happy to give The Dog and Bear our highest recommendation, and our thanks for making our short stay so enjoyable.

The rooms allocated to us were in the old part. It was hot, and the windows only opened a fraction. However there was a ventilator in the room. The single room. is to be avoided at all costs. It was tiny, dirty, stuffy. The shower was dirty, the washbasin leaked water all over the floor - the entrance to the wing was filthy and worn. I paid £101.50 for this room for one night. This was daylight robbery! Fortunately, after complaining to the manager I was offered a superior double room, which was acceptable for the price, but did not compensate for a lost night's sleep in this disgusting single room. Later I wrote to the managing director of Shepherd Neame hotels who agreed a refund of part of the cost. The breakfast was inedible - I chose smoked salmon and scrambled egg - the egg was completely dry and inedible. The next day we had porridge which was sweet and runny. We ate in the pub on Sunday night and had a very good meal in a pleasant atmosphere. Just avoid booking a single room! And if you are a single person occupying a double room you will be charged for two breakfasts!!

A delightful old pub with good, comfortable accommodation and excellent but inexpensive food. Very nice staff, all of them. Lenham church just across the square is a superb building dating back in part to the 10th century, but predominantly 14th. Very well maintained.

Right in the centre of lovely Lenham, this fine old inn is perfectly situated on the journey to or from Dover and London or when walking the Pilgrim's Way. It's clean, efficient, has a large courtyard, pleasant big bar (usual Shepherd Neame beers) and the food is excellent. Prices very competitive. As to the room we had. Large enough. Comfortable bed. Bathroom urgently in need of a complete re-fit.
