Generally the hotel is in need of some maintenance as it’s a bit worn and grubby in some areas but understandably this may not be viable during these times. It’s clear that the hotel have taken COVID 19 safety measures and to begin with this was reassuring.
The spa staff were lovely, very helpful and accommodating and we enjoyed our treatments. The spa was quiet and there was plenty of space to socially distance. There was a sharp loose tile piece in the heat and ice part that hurt my partners foot but this was given to the spa reception and they apologised.
It’s worth noting that a lot of the heat and ice experience aren’t currently available understandably due to COVID.
My problem only really began when we went to our room at around 5.30pm to get ready for dinner. There were splash marks up the wall (maybe coffee?) not a major problem as I understand they’re not going to keep repainting all the time, but then the bathroom was dirty. There’s no excuse for that especially during a pandemic. There was a brownish splash mark in the sink, the mini complementary shower gel was covered in makeup, was not sealed and had been half used. The toilet seat was also dirty, and there was a loose metal piece in the bidet- this demonstrates absolutely no attention to detail or reassurance of a thorough clean at all. The toilet roll was half used, which in normal times I can understand and reduces waste etc but during these times it’s unhygienic. There is also a tatty card leaflet on the side which is neither disposable or wipe clean. We did inform the reception team that we weren’t happy with the cleanliness of the room and they did offer to see if we could move but we declined as it was 7pm at that point and we had a dinner reservation at 7.15pm.
Dinner was great- the food was tasty, the service was good and the menu had a good selection.
Breakfast was lovely and there was a great choice, you could choose as much as you want and then it was freshly prepared for you. We did however witness a member of staff be extremely rude to another guest. The other guest had miss understood the menu (some items in the menu were not inclusive and had surcharges) they said that they didn’t find it clear, the waitress stormed off and as she passed our table said to herself loudly ‘it’s clear enough’ and then proceeded to slam a tray down clearly annoyed. Very unprofessional.
I’ve visited 3 times now but after this experience I’m not sure how I feel about coming again.

I booked two separate deals together and we stayed for 1 night, with treatments, lunch & access to the Day spa including heat & ice both days.

Easy to locate, free parking & a warm greeting on arrival put us in a good mood straight away, and after a tour of the facilities we were given our timetable for the day. We both had treatments which were fantastic- Our therapists were great, very professional, friendly and offered advice on skincare.

The spa itself is vast. They have a pool, 2 hot tubs, steam & sauna rooms & a good selection of beds, chairs & tables. The heat & ice area is fab - this is where the feature spa pool with massage jets is located & it's wonderful to stand under them. We were advised to start at the foot spas & work our way around to experience all the heat & ice, but we were both too chicken to use the ice!! Upstairs off the treatment waiting area, they have 2 wonderful relaxation rooms. One is open (no doors) and has treatment rooms off to one side, so therapists walk through with clients. Although they talk quietly, noise can still be heard from others going up & down the stairs & corridor. Having said that, it's still a gorgeous space, and not much beats lying on a heated waterbed with a duvet & dim lighting. There are lace curtains which can be drawn for privacy too. The other relaxation room has double doors & is lovely & quiet. This has sunbeds with towels & duvets. Phones & drinks can be taken in, many people were reading or on phones, others were resting & sleeping.

Our room was good, it had everything we needed. Lunch & dinner (both 3 course) were filling & tasty and there were good healthy options at the lunch buffet.

Very good break, hugely enjoyable and relaxing. I would have given it 5 stars, but as lovely as it is, it could use some refurbishment. The spa areas particularly were a little shabby but this doesn't detract from the experiences.

Dear Guest, It's always appreciated when time is taken to write such a comprehensive review of your stay. By the sounds of it, you both took in the full experience of our spa. This is something we highly recommend, the tour certainely helps understand where everything is. On top of that you were able to enjoy all the other important elements of your stay including your room and all your meals throughout your time with us. We appreciate the final feedback. We are always looking at needed improvements, your comments will be taken on board. Kind regards, Dan - Guest Relations

We booked a night for three people in September. We paid 250 pounds each which included 50 pounds each spending credit, a treatment and meals. The welcome was lovely but disappointed that there was no sauna or steam room so you are basically getting a pool and a massage in your money. Also they have taken the cocktails off the menu which wasn't stated during booking so virtually impossible to spend the 150 credit. Although we did stock up on nail polish and eyelashes! The massage itself was amazing and the whole spa was clean, just be aware that it is freezing when walking about. The hotel room was lovely and clean well stocked for two ( even though there were 3 of us and 3 beds.)
Food was amazing, the evening meal was first class, well cooked and delicious. We slept like logs afterwards. The staff ( apart from the one in the nail shop) were all bubbly, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was also lovely and plentiful.
Would definitely come again, but maybe when it's back to full working order. If a little more attention to detail took place it would be a five star.

Had a wonderful detox spa day with two friends on Sunday. We used a Black Friday deal and therefore paid £66 each inc lunch, heat & ice and a 40 minute treatment. We felt this is fabulous value for money for what we received. If you want a super luxurious spa day with limited guest numbers then you need to be prepared to pay a lot more than this or at least don't book a weekend! They have 30 treatment rooms so is always going to be busy.

On arrival, we enjoyed a run around the grounds followed by use of the gym which was quiet and well equipped with new Technogym equipment.

We then made use of the leisure facilities, rather than the spa. This area has a sauna, steam room, pool and three Jacuzzi areas. There was plenty of space in sauna/steam room and able to get in Jacuzzi after a couple of minutes.

Service in the cafe bar was a little slow when we purchased coffee. We were on the 2.30pm lunch slot so went into the heat and ice experience as others started to go for lunch so had no trouble getting into any of the areas. Spa receptionists were regularly replenishing towels/water etc.

Lunch is a buffet of salad, jacket potatoes, curry, rice and vegetables. Only yoghurt and fruit available for dessert. Personally, I would have preferred cake but then this is a spa and trying to encourage healthy eating.

'Renew you' treatment was blissful. A lovely mix of a brush exfoliation and oil massage focusing on the back and shoulders.

Ended the day reading magazines on the water beds in the whisper room.

This was my third visit here and always had a lovely time. It's a great place to catch up with friends and feel comfortable to have a chat. I've been to other 'snobby' spas were you get hushed for uttering a word. We will definitely be returning and would certainly recommend depending on the experience you are looking for.

Dear Claire, It was a pleasure to read your very balanced review. I would say it's a great summary of our spa and what our guests can expect when using our facilities. We appreciate your feedback with regards to some minor points that could be improved. It sounds as if you had a perfect treatment which always makes the day feel extra special. Getting the right balance of peace and quite as well as social interaction is key and we are keen to adopt both. We look forward to welcoming you for your forth visit, there is still plenty of new opportunities for you to try. Kind regards, Dan - Guest Relations

The food was quite honestly the worst I have had this year. Every plate that turns up has clearly been prepared earlier in the night and just warmed up when you order it. Honestly I am put off going out for meals for life. This place really needs to take a look what’s going on because I think we can all tell you don’t have a decent chef and all the meals are bland and dry. Not once were we asked how our meal was. Quite frankly, if we hadn’t have already pre paid when we booked our reservation, we certainly wouldn’t be paying for the meal we had.

So purchased a ultimate spa package to include a nights stay for a Christmas present for £260. It all went down hill from here. Upon arrival reception was packed when we eventually got to the spa the reception here was alas packed with one member of staff who took no time to tell us about the spa despite us telling her we had never been before. We were then told that the couple's massage we had booked would actually be two single ones at different times and I was sent on a wild goose chase to find my locker and changing facilities. Having visited all area of the spa I eventually found it. Joining my wife we headed to the pool area to find every available seat taken, so sat on the pool steps contemplating what we had done. There we witnessed people using electronic cigarette inside and a bunch of ladies using mobiles in the pool whilst being incredibly noisy whilst staff walked by them saying nothing at all. We decided to try and make the most of it and as lunch was only a short wait we headed to the restraurant. Whilst the food was ok the room felt like a poorly laid out cheap all inclusive resort at best. After lunch we also tried to access the heat and ice rooms in here the Small spa pool was packed two of the steam rooms and sauna where not working neither where some of the other areas around the pool. We gave up and went to the room to wait for dinner. What another huge disappointment arriving at the restaurant we were issued into a side room with poorly laid tables set up in a hurry as nothing lined up at all and had zero atmosphere. The menu was also a choice from a very restricted menu with two extra items available sirlon steak for an additional £11.95 and scallops for £7.95. whilst what we had was nice it lacked any finesse or atmosphere. The whole expirenece was frustrating and we felt terribly cheated and will certainly never be returning or recommending anyone else pay for what I can only describe as overpriced and overcrowded tired hotel and spa with the odd rude staff member thrown in. P.s you know it's bad when the check team in the morning never ask if you enjoyed your stay. We met other couples that also had the same poor opinion.

I'd booked the Ultimate Retreat Spa Stay package as a gift for my partners 30th birthday and I was hoping that it would be a relaxing way to celebrate the special occasion. The hotel and our room were lovely, however, unfortunately we were woken at 2:30am and kept awake by drunk, noisy guests which had been attending the Christmas party the hotel had been hosting. This understandably resulted in a sleepless night.

I had also inquired about the time of our spa treatment before our arrival and I was told that treatment times would be allotted on the day and to arrive for 9:30am. We arrived to the hotel at 9:30am only to find that our treatments were the first ones of the day and had been scheduled for 10:00am. This understandably meant that there was quite a rush to check in and get ready for the treatment, which resulted in a stressful start to the day. It also meant that any products used in the treatment had to be washed off in order to make use of the spa facilities that I had paid for.

I was also unhappy to find that there was only one vegetarian option for dessert in Astons restaurant. This was vegan pana cotta which was watery and tasteless.I emailed guest relations to feedback this to them early December, however, they are yet to respond to me.

Just spent a day and night here with the other half. On arrival check in was easy and our room was ready don’t think this is normally the case and you have to leave your bag with them so make sure you take a separate bag with swim stuff in. Room was nice and big tv didn’t work so someone had to come and sort for us. Room had a safe and fridge only a double bed though even In a big room. Shower was a bit dodgy going hot and cold. Went downstairs to start the spa day started in the big pool however the place was very busy and only about 25 loungers all reserved with towels (the signs are redundant) but no one on them. Not enough seating lounging facilities spoilt it. Had a buffet lunch that was ok glad they had some food we liked otherwise not sure what we would have done. After lunch hydro pool steam rooms heat and ice experience pool was ok but again very small considering the amount of people around. Heat experience steam rooms not all working so disappointing ice experience made me laugh the ice cave was a room with some fake rock walls and an ice machine. We spent the day drifting between steam rooms saunas pools etc and had enough by 5ish so went to the room got ready for dinner this was a 3 course and was disappointing again not very hot food mrs had pasta with asparagus and mushrooms. Only 3 small slices of mushroom and no asparagus we asked the waiter and he said the chef forgot to put it in the dish. Lol 50% of the ingredients missing surely it’s not that hard. Food was a big letdown. Returning to the room got to sleep was ok just a small bed. Breakfast in the morning was buffet and was really nice Shame the tables are so close however was entertaining listening to the young couple 6 inches away having a row. All in all this was an average experience it could be great but let down by a few things. Food needs to up its game and the lack of seating loungers meant you had no option but to prune up in the pools. It would be so much nicer to be able to lounge around read a book chill and relax but you couldn’t. Would I return. Yes but only if it was on a deal think ours was £150ish for the day lunch dinner and a treatment and if you guarantee me I can have a lounger to relax on. If your serving the same mediocre semi warm food with half the ingredients missing and no where to relax then no.

We had two nights at Whittlebury in room 249. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and departed on Sunday morning. We found a warm welcome behind reception and a fully sanitised and sealed room. The room itself was perfect for us (couple) with views out over the golf course. The welcome basket in the room and teas / coffees were all sealed and fresh for us to use which was very reassuring. We dined in the Atrium, (golf course club house) and the food and service was great. Ordering and payment was through a QR code, along with the track and trace. There are temperature scanners and sanitising dispensers all around the place and all the staff were wearing visors. We booked time in the pool, which was great as the numbers are limited so there was us and one other couple in there sharing the space, ideal! We will definitely return.

I stayed at the hotel for an event but wouldn’t choose to stay there again.
The place is desperately in need of refurbishment. While some of the event spaces are quite nice the decor is extremely dated and shabby and facilities in the rooms are poor. I see this is being advertised as 4* here but 2/3* is more appropriate.

The spa and pool area is big and the gym has quite good equipment. But it still needs maintenance with rust around the jacuzzi and chipped tiles. While there are some signs of updating it’s still just very tired - e.g there are new showers in the changing rooms but the doors are all cracked and discoloured. The gym also doesn’t open until quite late (8am) at the weekend so no good if you want an early workout.

Things you would expect in a 4* hotel (or even 3*) are just not there - no robes and slippers in the rooms for the spa, no mini bar, no cotton buds and shower cap etc in the bathroom, no decent shower - just some awful tiny shower head with poor water pressure and a plastic bathmat, and bits of mould round the bath. No nice coffee machine, just some freeze dried sachets and a kettle.

The hotel itself is huge and hard to navigate which is not helped by baffling room numbers in no logical order. The room doors also seem to be thin/poorly fitted meaning any noise from out in the corridor is heard loudly in the room and you are easily disturbed by people heading back to their rooms and getting lost in the maze of corridors.

The bar is quite nice, especially if you like motor racing as they have some nice photos and memorabilia. The food for lunch and dinner was also very nice.
Unfortunately breakfast was not great, while they have good labelling of allergens and calories it was all just very sad and uninspiring and the promise of someone bringing coffee never materialised.

It’s a shame because with some investment it could be a really nice hotel but unfortunately there is little to recommend it unless you are staying for a specific event in that location.

Hi, I'm not what the breakfast is like as I never ate there in the morning, but a colleague said it wasn't anything special. I ate in the bar area on the night of my stay and the food was lovely. You could check out De Vere Cotswold Park (Cirencester) - that could be an option. I will be staying there in July but haven't experienced it yet.
