We were given this 2 day break by my son and daughter in law as they couldn't make a wedding because of covid. We are signed up for their deals now because we were so impressed. First of all, most of the accommodation is in modernish buildings to the rear, not in the impressive stone mansion on the main picture. It is a conference centre not a country hotel. That being said, we were very impressed with 1. the staff, who were without exception friendly and very welcoming .2 The food, beautifully cooked and presented, any alterations to the menu that were asked for were soon sorted out with an eagerness to please that was amazing. My companion being vegan and gluten intolerant was very happy with the variety she was offered (she even had her own personal menu after the first night). We met a couple who stayed on a regular basis because they loved it so much (and they only lived 10 miles away). Because we stayed in the covid epidemic we had the swimming pool to ourselves for an hour, bonus! A couple of niggles, vegi sausages were a bit pale and I didn't like the "jazz" background music. That's the only things I could think of but still 5 stars. Coming back!

From the cheerful reception staff, the efficient and capable conference team, and the lovely restaurant folk, it’s a pleasure to be here. Even under Covid restrictions (which they manage very well), the usual high standards are evident throughout. Thank you all!

I fancied a few days away at half-term, chilling, change of scenery and some peace and quiet. I chose the hotel as it looked beautiful, I love a place with character and a history and was in the middle of the countryside. My first room had views of the generators and as soon as I asked to be moved, I was, to a lovely room with a view. No questions asked. There is decor that could be updated but you have everything you need to relax. The staff are exceptional. Each and every person I came in to contact with was helpful, professional and friendly and just lovely really! Nothing was too much trouble. The gym is great. I didn’t use the other facilities so can’t comment, but in other circumstances I would definitely have visited the restaurant as the menu looked wonderful. Thank you to all at the Highgate House Hotel.

Unfortunately the hotel was very dirty, this was a break hotel while driving front the south to North, we booked a superior room, there was nothing superior more basic than a travel lodge and very dated, when I mentioned the black mould on leaving the receptionist just said thanks we will have a look. The bath was dirty and the bath panel had a layer of dirt, tap in the sink moved about and the window was full of black Mould. In the dining room which is covid aware the panels on the room divider were thick with dust and dirt Food As the man on the table next to us said, wow this has taken a nosedive this evening menu is terrible. Which it was. The breakfast- bacon hard, poor quality sausage (certainly not local as stated) deep fried hash browns - I know people are trying their best but why let standards fall? The pictures of the rooms are misleading and the rear where the rooms are looks more like a youth centre - which is a shame as it’s in a lovely quiet location with gated entrance. Pool on swim time ,sauna closed due to covid

Just spent this week at a business training to become a wedding celebrant. The hotel is a great location for weddings, I can see why the training takes place there. The hotel could not have been more helpful. Very good observation of Covid-19 and plenty of cleaning taking place. Raj and his great team looked after us as if we were VIP’s, it really was great service and nothing was a problem. Food was hot and fresh. Breakfast was a delightful event.

The hotel looks better from the outside; some parts of this accommodation are looking a bit tired. The swimming pool was closed, which was a shame. On arrival, I found the reception staff a little off-hand: the layout is quite confusing and assistance in finding the conference room would have been useful.

I will start by saying I have been to lots of Afternoon Teas. The room is very big and there was only us and another table there , but considering the Covid situation we didn't mind as we felt safer. It was nice having what I call proper tea with a strainer , tea bags are a no no really . The sandwiches were plentiful and tasty apart from the smoked salmon it was a touch too thick making it chewy. The scones were lovely and fresh 10/10 Chocolate cake very indulgent 10/10 Macaroons we crispy on the outside chewy on the inside , perfect 10/10 Fruit cake , now your talking , beautiful 10/10 . I have to say the only real let down was the fruit tart which was hard and bland couldn't eat it . The staff were non intrusive as they should be in the current situation . Thanks for a lovey fresh Afternoon Tea .

Enjoyed my surprise afternoon tea with champagne for my 80th birthday. Food excellent, gluten free catered for. Only disappointment was the paper tablecloths which didn’t fit properly, would have been so much nicer with proper tablecloths and made a better atmosphere.

For our Golden wedding afternoon tea for the family I discovered this hotel on Facebook wow how pleased I was when you’ve never been to a place before and you book for all of your-close family for your wedding anniversary I was very worried what we would get! but on arrival nothing but friendliness and helpfulness from all of the staff. With three grandchildren under the age of three I was a little worried but I needn’t have been all of the staff understood and helped to make this a very special tea, two tables apart with a six and four, made this into a legal party The tea itself was fantastic they looked after the grandchildren well and all six adults really well..words really fail to express how pleased I was, how we were on the day. On a personal note having seen the size of the Sunday lunches cannot wait to come back. A hidden gem One extra special event was the big red bus in the garden I think my grandchildren will talk about this for ever
