Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is truly fantastic. After signing out of a dreadful hotel nearby (The French Partridge) this place was truly fantastic. It epitomised real service which is a credit to the hotel. It has amazing grounds and views and I hope you visit this place of a gem. It is pricey but it is true silver spoon value.

We have been to The Falcon quite a few times as we live locally, generally just for drinks as the patio in the summer is glorious. We love the environment, it’s very chilled and opulent. It is quite expensive but you get what you pay for, it’s a lovely place to spend an afternoon. However, I draw the line at putting a service charge on drinks. Even if you go to the bar and get them yourself, they still charge a 10% service charge!

We visited Eyas last month for an evening meal and I wanted to share our experience. To be completely up front I have been fortunate enough to eat in many wonderful restaurants around the world over the years and having lived in the area for over ten years were thrilled with the reopening of the Falcon and in particular a head chef with such a passion and pedigree as Russell. We have dined in Eyas many times including a Catalan wine pairing dinner where the host said that Russell had prepared the best Catalan food she had ever had in the UK. We dined back and n December before the emphasis and menu changed and it has been clear to see over the months that the team in the kitchen and the food that they have been producing has gone from strength to strength with a lovely dining experience complemented by an exceptional front of house and serving team. Alas on our most recent visit Eyas has moved from a fine dining experience to a hotel restaurant. Don’t get me wrong the dishes that Russell and his team are producing are still as wonderful as ever but the experience has become sterile like any other chain hotel. The service is still fantastic but all those extra touches like an amuse bouche, pre desert and post desert extras which made it so special and up there with many London Michelin starred restaurants has gone. I think that is a real shame as Russell definitely had the capability to attract the foodie crowd and many weekend stays for the hotel. Speaking of the hotel one of my clients from Europe who has worked in the hospitality business for over 20 years has now stayed at the Falcon twice and cannot fault it in any way. A real compliment from somebody who has real experience in this area. I really do appreciate the reasons behind the health and wellbeing direction the Falcon has gone in and I know from personal experience how wonderful the open water swimming is. Would there be any possibility of bringing back the wonderful tasting menus and everything that goes with them at weekends if the whole table was to have them ? Essentially the new menu has all the same dishes and it would give Russell and his team room to showcase their talents and the good they have done in the local community training those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to work as a chef in the top flight restaurant.

Outstanding hotel - fabulous rooms, staff, food and drink. We had dinner at Eyas which was terrific. Rooms were lovely, staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. Castle Ashby is a lovely village - worth exploring. Would highly recommend - we will be back !

I booked this hotel as I needed charging my EV overnight and I found a great hotel in limestone set in Northampton village. I had been here over 20 years ago when it was a darker shade of itself.. I read previous reviews and couldn’t see all the issues. I had friendly helpful knowledge staff. A great relaxing building, comfy bedroom. It wasn’t large but I had booked small as on my own. Plenty of space out of the room wood fires and snug rooms and good WiFi great if you still have to work.. A nice feature was a great individual healthy breakfast lovingly presented as well. Lastly the EV charging was plentiful for overnight full charge and they all seemed working a plus for the EV motorist.

We visited as a large family group of 20 people to celebrate some special birthdays and had the most amazing weekend. We chose the hotel as it was a convenient location for our family coming from the north and the south. The bedrooms were beautiful, the beds incredibly comfortable and the towels and bathrobes thick and fluffy. We had the dog friendly cosy room, which was 'cosy' (as people had previously commented), but for a hotel as lovely as this is, it was a good value option and worked well for us and our dog. All the areas in the hotel are dog friendly (apart from the Eyas restaurant) and we were given details of walks and bowls of water. There may be the odd draft in the rooms, but it is a 500 year old building, so that's to be expected. I very much enjoyed sitting by the fire in the lounge (with the dog) watching the comings and goings. Guests at the hotel have free access to the Castle Ashby Gardens which were stunning and you can also take dogs. A 5 minute walk from the hotel is a little deli and collection of shops so worth popping in there (and again you can take dogs). In the run up to our celebration Carrie in the events team couldn't have been more helpful. We were a group of 20 so she arranged areas for us to have drinks before and after dinner - that were all set up perfectly to accommodate us. Our dinner in the Eyas restaurant was excellent - clearly a very talented chef - and each course was delicious and beautifully presented. We found all the staff to be delightful and attentive - from the hotel manager to the ladies on reception, the lovely waitresses at dinner and breakfast, and Harry behind the bar! We had a truly memorable weekend and are so grateful to everyone at The Falcon for making it so special.

I wish I had read the previous reviews before we booked, as then I would have drilled more deeply into the room we were being given, and then not gone. Let's deal with the good things first. The food was very good, and the service (with one grumpy exception) was smiling and polite, albeit not totally efficient. Everything is smart and clean. But the room! We were allocated the dog-friendly smaller 'half' of the family room in The Cottages. This is very small, I can reasonably say ridiculously small. So small that they don't even provide a chair to sit on; presumably it is thought that sitting on the edge of the bed is fine. Chairs were squeezed in when we complained, not easy when working around the dog. The allegedly dog-friendly room had no dog-bed or mat, no dog bowls and no dog treats. Again, it seems one has to ask. After a walk we decided to sit in the chairs and have a cup of tea, using the two English Breakfast teabags provided (want some more? Have to ask). Of course the room is so small there is no side-table to put the cup on. I opened the wardrobe door and sat the saucer on a shelf. The room was nice and warm so I'll gloss over the draughts coming from the single-glazed windows, and the bed was comfortable. I won't dwell on being served with the wrong starter at dinner, nor on the non-negotiable breakfast menu (I don't like granola, but an alternative was not offered, and if you prefer bacon to sausage, tough). All in all, just not good enough. We stayed in a London Travelodge before Christmas and, to be brutally honest, it was better.

What a wonderful find, I booked a night with my daughter, the room was fabulous with lovely beds, tastefully furnished room, big showers and deep freestanding bath. The staff were so professional, nothing was too much trouble! We were given cookies straight from the oven with a nespresso machine in the room we enjoyed a coffee with them. We had an excellent massage followed by a Gong bath which was so relaxing we fell asleep, then supper in a beautifully decorated room, the food was lovely as was the sparkling non alcoholic wine. After a wonderful night sleep followed by yoga with an excellent teacher and a lovely breakfast we departed from our mini retreat. I had no idea it would be so holistic, I left feeling fabulous rested and refreshed. I have stayed in luxury hotels that do not deliver this level of service or relaxation. I will be returning soon. Thanks you to all the wonderful staff at the Falcon. Lastly I told the staff how much we loved the cookies on departure I was handed a gift of cookies to take, now that’s what I call service.
