Where do we start, it's a dump with dead behind the eyes staff, lift still not working after months just and appalling cleanliness and damaged walls smacks of this place going broke...! Menu in restaurant with 5 out of the nine mains and starters not available and staff who just shrugged their shoulders and said "not their problem, they only serve the food" carpets are the sort of filthy you wipe your feet on the way out. Dreadful coffee in the bar and no proper glass for a brandy. Avoid this place like the plague. How it's rated as 4 star is a complete mystery.

My partner and I stayed as part of a Christmas gift voucher that included two nights stay, afternoon tea, breakfast and dinner. The hotel were really accommodating changing the date of our stay, and helpful when we booked our afternoon tea, arrival and check in was smooth, we were given info on meal times and directions to the room, albeit a little bit of a walk and the lift was out of order, was clean, comfy and had everything we needed, the French doors onto the grass were lovely. Evening meals were nice, we requested cheeseboard and wine to our room after dinner, a gentlemen who seemed to be running the restaurant seemed a little put out by this, we were told the tray couldn’t be bought to our room as they don’t do room service, it was only when a really polite young waiter intervened and insisted on carrying the tray that true customer service was shown. Breakfast was tasty, hot and relaxed, afternoon tea was very nice, I get the impressed the staffing levels are low, and the hotel could do with a little bit of a spruce up. Short walk to redbourn via a footpath which is lovely, and a taxi ride to St Albans which was gorgeous, the taxis are quite steep cost wise after midnight and on Sundays.

I'm a local lad and to see the Aubrey Park like this was embarrassing for me. The hotel Oak Suite had been hired for the training event I was presenting at and the problems were (in no particular order) - hot room with a lingering unpleasant smell, found a used pot of shower gel left in the shower on arrival, no change of bed linen or towels during my stay, tea and coffee in room not replenished, very poor quality (overcooked, undercooked or cold) food at the conference - one night's menu consisted of a small tray of lasagne, bean casserole, rice and some onion rings - to feed 35 people), over-cooked and unappetising breakfast items (no fried eggs??), stained and dirty carpets everywhere, confetti left on the conference suite floor from previous event, lift out of order...etc etc I could go on. I always thought this was a good hotel having grown up in the area but so sad to say it reached a very poor level.

We have just returned from spending 2 nights on a Red letter deal brought during one of the lock downs. The deal was for one evening meal and two breakfasts. Looking at other reviews the lift was out of order in March and April which still hasn't been mended now in May. Unfortunately I have gluten and dairy intolerance which we notified the hotel in advance of our arrival. On Thursday evening we booked to have our evening meal and was surprised at the lack of choice for people like myself also vegan and vegeterian. When I mentioned to the waiter my problems he looked at me as though I had two heads and seemed surprised someone had a problem. I found one dish I could eat which was lovely. As for a dessert there was nothing I could eat so asked if they had Vegan ice cream again a look of surprise and a shake of his head. He then offered a fresh fruit salad which wasn't on the menu. Breakfast was good on the first morning as they had gluten free bread for toast plus a choice of items for a cooked breakfast. It would have been better if they had by items allergy information so people know what they are eating. Unfortunately the second morning was a different story. As we were traveling home I needed to be careful on what I ate. I did have one or two items of the cooked food but when asked for gluten free toast the answer was no as they hadn't had a delivery. The staff just walked away and appeared to be laughing about it. I was furious especially as we notified them in advance. As we were leaving a waitress apologized but again said they were waiting for a delivery. I made the comment that they do have shops they should have brought a loaf knowing they have guests with dietary needs. She wished me a good weekend!!! This hotel appears not to be sympathetic to people with specific dietary needs and feel that this is so common they should look into this problem and consider training staff how to deal with it, also consider changing the menu to offer a better choice for people.

Hired the oak suite for a baptism, paid £2,000 for frozen food and items we ordered they replaced with food we didn’t ask for with no explanation why. Not enough food for our 90 guest so when questioned this the answer from the staff wasn’t very pleasant. We signed a contract for 70 adults and 20 kids. Buffet with 7 choices for adults which we only had 4 and the kids menu they forget the deserts. When the kitchen tried to send out more food as they could clearly see there was not enough, they served raw chicken skewers! Shocking! Again managers response was zero! Told incorrect information regarding music so was left with 2 little white speakers from the staff room which sounded terrible. No event manager on duty on the day and the staff spoke very little English to help. Overall experience dreadful. The hotel refunded us less than half but trying to deal with these issues we are still left with no explanation why they fell short on our special day. Managers not interest !
