Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One endearing feature to this hotel is the sign, nothing else. Other than the welcoming sign there is nothing worth spending your hard erned money on in this place. The staff are jumped up fols and the security are threatning and unjust. I have reported them for there bad behaviour.

Avoid this hotel at all costs. Food is appalling, rooms are filthy and the staff are rude. When I complained to Mercure they ignored my concerns. All in all a disgraceful outfit and should be avoided.

Checking in was a bit of an issue, as the reception desk was not manned and it took a while for a member of staff to check me in. Directions to the room were quite confusing and it did take me a while to find where I needed to go (which wasn't the most fun experience). However, the room was lovely, spacious and clean.

When I arrived after a long and tiring drive I found Reception was off-hand, offering little by way of welcome or advice on facilities. My room was upstairs and a trek along long corridors to the back of the hotel. The room itself was OK and clean. Food was served in what appeared to be a function room. Not in any hurry to return.

I arrived at 10.30pm to check-in and found the reception desk un-manned. It took 15 minutes before someone arrived, however, once she did arrive she was very helpful. The bedroom that we had was very cold (room 108) and the wall heater was ineffective - there was also no instructions to show how to use it. The WiFi signal in the room was very poor. The breakfast room lacks any sort of welcoming atmosphere and was very quiet on each day we were there. The hot food on the buffet was very poor - it looked like it had been sitting there for some time and therefore was all dried out. The host in the breakfast room was okay and was very helpful if anything was needed. There is no hot drink machine (for tea / coffee) instead flasks are sat on a table and the result is that your tea / coffee is not very hot. The car park is in poor condition and needs some maintenance - although it does have plenty of space. My children did enjoy the swimming pool. Overall the hotel is looking very tired and shabby and not anywhere near the standards you would expect at a Mercure Hotel.

This was our first night away in 6 months. On our last holiday we stayed in a mercure hotel in Stratford upon Avon and had the most amazing time! It was perfect for us and our little 1 yr old and the staff and facilities where second to none. Knowing we wanted a night away we didn’t hesitate to book a Mercure hotel again after valuing our experience with you last time. We couldn’t have been more disappointed. The hotel was old and shabby, it felt dirty and when we first arrived there was not a person in sight, it almost felt deserted. Our room was in the furthest corner of the hotel with a bit of a trek to find it (especially with an 18month old), then when we got there it wasn’t the room we had booked with 3 single beds and a travel cot crammed in. My wife made the epic trek back down to reception to get it changed - which they did fairly quickly. This room was better but still dirty and the curtains where 3 inches to short for the windows?!? We decided to head down to the pool/spa and gym. The gym was more of a cupboard with some equipment stuffed in - safe to say I didn’t bother and the pool was grubby, the lights continued to flicker and we didn’t bother with the ‘spa’. We went out for tea and forgot to pick up some water for the room on the way home. I bought some at the hotel bar and it cost me £4.10 for 1 bottle of water - so extortionate! I expected to pay a lot for bottled water in an up market hotel - but that was ridiculous and the state of the hotel didn’t make it any more acceptable. We all eventually got to sleep after the dog barking down the corridors and the heavy doors keeping our baby awake on several occasions. Breakfast was ok - can’t grumble at the food, but the experience was odd. We where the only ones in the dining room, no music, no people - it was all just very strange. We booked with Mercure because it was a brand we trusted and have used many times before! Staying in Manchester, Chester and Stratford Upon Avon. I am shocked that you are happy to put the Mercure name to that hotel and has left me feeling very disappointed with the hotel chain. Not sure I would be rushing to stay at a Mercure again in a hurray. I wrote to them on a number of different platforms and was ignored on several occasions!!

Dear 394emmaa, Thank you for your review of our hotel and your stay. I am very disappointed to read you found some aspects of your stay not to be of standard. I would like to apologize firstly for the room type not being correct but am glad to hear reception changed this quickly for you. We have recent undergone works within our Leisure Club to improve on the facilitates, Our Gym is not a large size gym but this does offer equipment for all our guests to use during there stay complimentary. It is great to hear you enjoyed your breakfast, I will address your comments regarding atmosphere to our Food & Beverage Manager. We do hope you can join us in the near future and see all the improvements. Kind Regards

Hotel would have been lovely back in the day but is feeling very neglected and worn (see photos). Room seemed clean enough but lots of damage and view from window won’t win any awards (room 111). Bathroom had mis matched towels and looked like it had been painted by Stevie Wonder. We ate in the restaurant which was lacking atmosphere and our table was visibly dirty. Food was okay and we went to the bar for a drink afterwards which was freezing cold, make sure you bring a coat! When checking out in the morning at approximately 9am someone was hoovering the reception area (surely this would be done either early hours or during the night). Receptionist could not provide us with an itemised receipt from dinner. Another strange thing was they have computer gaming chairs to sit on behind reception?? Not always the best first impressions. Wouldn’t stay here again.
