The Lion Inn Gwytherin in beautiful Wales is a great place to come and eat fresh food, drink good wine and real ale and recharge your batteries. Close to Snowdonia it is a great centre from which to explore North Wales. Dating from the 16th century, but the bedrooms take their design cues from the 21st century - Wales Great Little Places.

I stayed at the Lion Inn for 2 nights whilst working in the area. The new owner, Karen was welcoming and helpful and provided a superb evening meal and breakfast....whilst also organising a team of builders who were working on improvements to the kitchen area at the back of the

Telephoned approx 1800hrs on 24.8.18. to book accommodation. Phone answered by lady who said "Hello" - nothing more. After explaining the reason for my call, she said she would check the Diary and ring back. Have heard nothing since and it was only afterwards that I noticed

Communication Breakdown After 9 happy years owning the Lion Inn Guesthouse in Gwytherin we placed the Inn on the market in Spring 2018, not 2017 as the reviewer states, the new owner Karen Stanley, with over 25 successful years running a Guesthouse in the Cotswolds took over on August 22nd, unfortunately coinciding with Openreach's installing Fibre in our Village, which resulted in 2 weeks of crossed lines, no lines and no Broadband! Unfortunately this gentleman made his enquiry smack in the middle of this tortuous transition period. This may well be the probable cause of any failure in communication, but apparently not an acceptable reason for this reviewer, who is more than happy to patronise and give a good kicking to hard working owners without spending a few moments getting his facts right, or even exercising the simple expediency of making a follow up call, just in case a mistake had been made in taking down his number or that a return call was made and met with no reply, or maybe the reviewer had spoken to a different Lion Inn, as, by his own admission, he had no idea who he was talking to. Unfortunately the first review under new ownership is made by someone who obviously likes the sound of his own voice. This Lion Inn is not closed and continues to be operated with care and consideration, the only positive is that it has been spared this reviewer's patronage.

We were lucky enough to stay at The Lion Inn during our recent long weekend in Wales. Tim and Fiona are fantastic hosts and could not have looked after us better or made us more welcome. Our room was spotless, the beds comfortable and the food. always freshly cooked by Fiona,

Nice clean rooms .... excellent food .... friendly hosts, to a degree .... there were occasions whilst planning our times to eat and use the bar where it appeared we were an inconvenience rather than guests. Great location to explore Snowdonia.

"Didn't See it Coming" Took us by surprise this one, suppose you can't win them all. We're always very weary of taking block bookings, especially if they're all ladies or gents but Tim's group were a great bunch, friendly, courteous and a pleasure to have stay with us. Like most group bookings the getting there can be fraught and this was no different, what started as 12 chaps in our 6 rooms, all dining with us on the first night, reduced to 9 as the arrival date loomed near and to complicate things we had to relax our policy of a minimum of 2 nights at weekends to allow 3 of the party to stay for just 1 night, the evening meal then went down to 7, but we thought that went well as they had one of Fiona's superb meals at the time they requested and drank the Bar dry until turning in at 2:15 a.m.. Breakfast too was served at the requested time, always a bit of worry that when you cook from fresh, hoping that not all the party descend on you at exactly the same time. Saturday night was a bit of a faux pas, but a bit harsh to lay the blame on us Tim, who had informed us that they were dining out in Betws y Coed and were arranging for a taxi pick up at 10:30, so as we only open the Bar for Resident's on Saturday nights I thought I was safe in not getting another keg of Carlsberg, that had been emptied during an unusually heavy session or two and having a rare night off. However a telephone call from Tim at 8:30 informed me that they were coming back by 9, so hurriedly the Bar was readied and opened, although it was 10:15 before they turned up. Disappointed at getting 3 stars, disappointed at failing to meet Tim's expectations, but most disappointed that someone who I thought I could call a friend couldn't tell me face to face that we had failed him.

Our welcome was warm, our breakfasts and dinners delicious with great attention given to presentation and detail. Dinners are cooked to order and during our stay we enjoyed a a perfect steak, chicken in a delicious mustard sauce, an amazing fish pie and a very tasty Lasagne,
