Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Geraldine, fondly known as G, is friendly and looked after us very well. She checked on us frequently to see how we were settling in. She even offered for us to check out late as we have kids. Orlege end is lovely, warm and comfortable place with all the amenities needed for a holiday. Our whole family got ill with colds and coughs and we still drove 6hrs and we needed heating on all day and night . There was adequate heating and hot water Helped us keeping warm and recovered quickly. Such a comfort home and lovely Host to cheer us up We would love to come back again! Side note- Thanks G for the great tasting handmade Red currant jelly. Loved it! Highly recommended in West Calder!

Brilliant location and a lovely place to stay. Geraldine (the owner) was absolutely lovely and the house was very well equipped. The wing is very much an older building (felt a little bit like the lion the witch and the wardrobe house) but the others are more modern. There were loads of things for the kids to do there and they enjoyed the little play area in the woods. The location is brilliant for day trips, we went to Edinburgh (via the park and ride), sterling, 5 sisters zoo & the Almond Hermitage centre which were all amazing. Overall i wouldn't stay in the Wing if you like more modern buildings but if you love historic buildings with character then this is the place for you. Would 100% stay again.

Over the past few weeks our company has stayed in 3 of the Crosswoodhill cottages and what a great experience it has been after spending earlier weeks in serviced accommodation. . Instead of having to eat out all the time each property’s amazing kitchen facilities made cooking home-made meals so easy whilst so cost –effective and tasty. After a hard day’s work on our contract up in Scotland, relaxing into those comfy big leather sofas, with a drink or two was just great. The beds were so comfy and getting a room each with an ensuite power shower was a real bonus. The big lodge , Craigengar, in particular, was spectacular with its huge picture windows looking out onto sheep grazing in all the surrounding fields. G has been so welcoming and thoughtful. Unasked, every weekend she would store any unused dry groceries and then leave them out for the Monday return. That’s just one of her caring touches. There were so many more.

Spent an enjoyable week in the Wing with the grandchildren. We were last here with our own children 17 years ago and again it was a magical experience with the indoor toys outside play area and exploration around the gardens keeping them enthralled and tired out.

3 generations of our family (14 in total) enjoyed the rural landscape and serenity of Craigengar - a very spacious, well equipped and appointed property. The large windows afforded wonderful views of the local farmland and the children loved watching the sheep roam and the farmer carrying out his daily tasks. Our host was warm and welcoming and very attentive to all our needs. This escape to the countryside provided an experience which we would love to repeat in the future.

My wife, mother in Law and I stayed at Steading Cottage in Crosswoodhill Farm Holiday Cottages in June 2023. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage was clean, very comfortable and cosy. Geraldine the owner (known as G) made sure we were well looked after and even went out of her way to help us get a hire car when we were having issues. The area around the cottage is beautiful, close to West Calder and the train station which is an easy 30 minute journey into Waverley station, Edinburgh. The cottage had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen and living room were spacious, the showers and bathrooms were great! I can genuinely say that the stay at Crosswoodhill and Steading Cottage has been one of my favourite holidays ever! Thank you G for your kindness and we look forward to the next time we visit you. Craigengar Lodge was the perfect setting for my friend's stag do. While the website photos are stunning I'm not quite sure they do it justice. Though travel into Edinburgh was quick (around 30 mins) and simple with the help of local taxi/minibus companies (would recommend pre-booking these), the Lodge was a stunning destination in its own right for a BBQ and drinks and there was plenty of space for everyone to take time outs throughout our three night stay. While we travelled into Edinburgh for a day out, the following day spent BBQ-ing and taking in Craigengar's immediate surroundings and walks was equally enjoyable. The host also provided great communication right from initial booking to checking out after our stay. Organising a stag-do for that many people was a fairly nightmarish amount of general admin, however host 'G' made all things accommodation incredibly simple. Nailing down a place to stay ended up being one of the easier aspects of a 20-person trip including guests from both sides of the Atlantic in a city I don't know! Only things I would note would be that I struggled to get the HDMI input sorted for the TV, and also eventually needed to buy extra wifi data at the end of the trip given the size of our group - but these are incredibly minor and there are far better uses of time at Craigengar than looking at screens anyway! Would definitely visit again either with friends or family, or recommend to others.

We spent Easter at Craigenar lodge. Geraldine’s communication from the time of booking kept us fully informed made us feel welcomed. We were a party of all ages and we all felt our needs had been catered for extremely well. My parents loved the spacious wheelchair accessible room. The children loved the toy cuboard, outside play area and freedom to explore. We all loved the spacious entertaining area, luxurious bedrooms and outstanding location. The owner had thought of everything we could possibly need. As my dad said, if it were 4 in a bed I would give 5 stars!!! We would love to return.
