The Sunday roast at the Chequers, we believe, is one of the best pub Sunday lunches around. Excellent quality in the meats and the sides. The place is regularly fully booked for Sundays (certainly pre-COVID) and what sets this place aside, that whilst it is very much a village setting pub with its local “regulars”, you are made to feel very welcome by Ian & Jackie. So much so that even on our second visit to eat, they wanted to know our names and more about us and we are now treated as regulars despite living 8 miles away. Even the mid week menus are superb. The steaks all use local suppliers and a cooked to perfection the way you want. The prawn and monkfish curry (if on the menu) is absolutely to die for.

This pub is amazing and the owners as well. Ian is a very kind and sweet person and loves taking care of his customers. He knows wines, so please trust him (made the mistake of not to!). I really enjoyed talking to him as he is down to earth and funny. This pub draws people together and the spirit is extraordinary. The Chequers Inn has this feeling of a family/friends pub and I felt very comfortable immediately. In my 20 years in the UK, I have never (I really do mean it) experienced this in a pub (even at my local pubs!). I had a fantastic time and will most definitely come back and say hello to Ian and his lovely wife.

We were made very welcome in this lovely Inn. The food was top notch and the service was superb - this is how all Inns and pubs should be but seldom are. Great wine at the right price and all very good value.
