I am just back from a fantastic few days in Orkney. My favourite hotel is the Orkney Lodge it feels like my second home. Lynda & Alf Baird make me so welcome and nothing is a bother if I have any requests. The rooms are clean and fresh and the bed linen and towels are amazing. I alway have the best sleep ever as such a comfy bed and great pillows. I also love the touch of placing Orkney Fudge beside a well stocked supply of teabags and coffee etc which are replenished daily. The breakfast are lovely with such a choice, continental style, maybe not everyone’s idea of a breakfast but really suits me. The hotel is lovely and quiet with fantastic views of Scapa Flow and there is a lovely large lounge if I want to sit quietly reading or catching up with some TV. I would recommend this place if anyone wants a peaceful and tranquil location and a short trip if you want to go to Kirkwall or even Stromness to do a little shopping although there is so much history in Orkney and both Lynda & Alf are very knowledgeable and can advise what to visit. The Wi-Fi is not the best and I knew about this when I booked so there were no surprises. This did not bother me that much as it was a restful holiday. Thank you so much for your hospitality Lynda and Alf and hope to see you again when I need that much needed break. 😊

The hotel is located in a very quiet and isolated location in Houlton Bay. You need a vehicle because it is so remote, but there is unlimited parking. The rooms are basic, but the standard of furniture and fittings is of good quality. To eat, you will have to travel to Stromness or Kirkwall. The manager and staff are very friendly and welcoming. I would certainly use this hotel again.

A well kept lodge very clean very friendly. The room we stayed in was very large. Tea/coffee facilities were refilled everyday without fail. Lovely views all round. Excellent place to base yourself to explore the island. Would not hesitate to stay again only for longer next time!

First thing we noticed was the garden and that the view is amazing! Such a warm welcome and thorough instructions given of how everything works, which helps when you’re not sure what switch is for which. Allergy friendly and suitable for any access needs as it’s ground floor. Hosts are so helpful and know the best places, so do ask for recommendations for days if it’s wet. Felt really welcomed and looked after. Rooms were immaculate with little extras for you to enjoy at no extra cost.

Host is very welcoming, made to feel part of the family. Room immaculate with large bed and luxury linen. We had a sea view room which had a wonderful vista over the bay. The location is a little out of the way, so own transport is recommended.

I have stayed here several times over the past few years and my experience does not tire of the place or surroundings. I have tranquility here to gather my thoughts, read a book and basically chill out from my busy hectic life. My trips around the island also bring me joy and peace. The hotel itself is ideal, well kept and clean, the bedding so fresh and am sure very new. the towels soft & fluffy just how i like them. Great breakfast with great choice. The owners Alf & Lynda in my opinion go out of their way to look after their guests with their great knowledge of the island, places to visit, places to eat and generally anything anyone needs they can advise. I was also lucky enough to be in the vicinity when they were ordering a takeaway and offered to get one for me. i have stayed in other hotels on the Island but i cannot fault this one. keep up the good work.

The Orkney lodge is a wonderful base for traveling around Orkney. They are situated between Kirkwall and Stromness. There are buses if your not driving that go all over and a mini ferry terminal at Houton. If you want to be based in the town I would recommend staying in Kirkwall but if you want to have beautiful breathtaking views stay here. If possible ask for a view over to the ocean as it is more spectacular so book in advance, the other view is of farmland and horses but still serene. The rooms are spotless no problems there. All little extras in the room give a nice feeling of home. They don’t allow hot food in the rooms because of the smell but they are happy to give you some plates etc to eat in their dining room. Very friendly owners who go that little extra to be of service to weery travelers. Great value for money especially with the location.

What a wonderful stay. Slept all the way through as the hotel is so quiet. The breakfast is European breakfast and if you book through booking.com you just need to add £5.00 per person for breakfast which is so worth it, so definitely recommend asking for porridge for breakfast. The couple who own the hotel are friendly and informative and nothing is too much bother. The hotel has Wi-fi, but it’s hit and miss, during our stay, Internet was the last thing on our mind, as we were out from 10.00am to 11.00pm every evening. I’m sure the hotel has negative aspects, but we didn’t see any of them. A fabulous bonnie stay, you arrive as guests and leave as friends.
