Crystal Brook is a lovely cosy, clean and bright B&B based in Orphir on the mainland of Orkney. Myself and my husband visited this July and had a wonderful, relaxing stay here. Sarah and John are amazing hosts and we felt so welcome and looked after. The room was lovely and clean, with a very comfortable bed and fantastic ensuite with power shower. There were also thoughtful touches in the room such as tissues by the bed, miniature mouthwash and shampoo sets, flannels as well as towels were also provided.
Breakfast is served in a lovely cosy breakfast room with wonderful views over Scapa flow and Sarah and John's lovely garden full of local birds. Sarah's breakfasts were delicious with a wide selection of quality hot and cold options to choose from each morning. Sarah is Orcadian and both her and John know alot about the islands including the wild life they are a great source of information on what to do during your trip. We were lucky enough to see Orca's during our trip to Hoy whilst on the ferry!
Location wise Crystal Brook is ideally situated in Orkney as you are 10 minutes drive into the capital Kirkwall and 10 minutes drive from the ferry terminal Tingwell which takes you to some of the other islands such as Hoy. Surrounding Orphir is lots of beautiful countryside and you are well situated to explore the rest of the mainland from here. I have visited the islands many times as my maternal family are from here and I would highly recommend Crystal Brook. It is great value for money, has wonderful hosts and is a real home from home. What a fabulous place to stay, warm and welcoming. Sarah and John are excellent hosts with plenty of good information on Orkney and provide a cheerful and friendly service. They have clearly gone the extra mile to make sure that guests have every possible thing they might need during their stay. Our dog was also welcome and offered treats and a cosy bed. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with lots of choice. The views from the breakfast room are out over Scapa Flow. What a place! It far exceeded our expectations and is highly recommended.

A fantastic BnB. John and Sarah could not have been more welcoming or helpful. They had lots of written information and even more personal insights and knowlege on all the places, history from natural to neolithic, wildlife and archaeology of the Islands. They pointed us in the right direction on everything, from latest whale sightings to getting tickets for the folk festival. They turned a four star holiday to 5 star. The breakfasts were 5 star on their own and we looked forward to going back 'home' for our tea and biscuits at the end of each of our 4 night stay. They let us leave most of our stuff with them when we dissappeared to Sanday for a night. Cannot recommend highly enough.

My wife and mother-in-law visited Orkney in July and had a wonderful time, including staying with Sarah & John. I therefore made a short notice trip, for which Sarah and John were kind to accommodate me.
This B&B 'sets the standard', with excellent accommodation, a superb breakfast, as well as intelligent, knowledgeable, and witty hosts.
It is the best B&B I have experienced, and my wife and I look forward to returning there together in the future.
If you want a base from which to explore all that Orkney has to offer, this is the B&B you are looking for!

What a wonderful experience staying with John and Sarah, the owners. Felt like family. Superb choice of breakfasts, even if you are non meat eaters. Most comfortable rooms. Orkney is a wonderful place to visit, so much to see historically, geographically and wonderful foods and drinks.

Just had my second stay with Sarah and John and it felt even better than last time. Great comfort, excellent bedroom and bathroom, large range of very good breakfast to choose from. Sarah and John are also perfect hosts: there if you need anything but otherwise not there. Perfect place as a base while visiting Orkney. I can't think of any way they could improve their offering.

We just stayed at the Crystal Brook B&B. The house is great, with a lovely breakfast room with comfortable furniture , lots of snacks, and a really pretty view. Our room was quiet with.a comfortable bed and the breakfast offerings were generous and delicious. The nicest aspect though is the hosts. They are interesting and lovely.
