Clean, warm and comfortable chalet with lovely view over to Hoy and wildlife in the garden. Kathy and Keith are both very friendly and welcoming, providing lots of information on Orkney plus offer a generous discount to returning guests, this was our second visit. First visit scored 5 stars as people using the other 2 chalets were very quiet and considerate. This time there were 2 families with a total of 5 children who could be heard inside and outdoors and regularly walked past our windows. For other grumpy pensioners we would recommend staying there outside of school holidays, This time we booked for a birthday without realising that Easter was so early.

Fantastic cosy Croft house with lots of space for our family of four. Nice and warm with underfloor heating throughout. Everything has been thought of (hairdryer, clothes drying rack, washer, shared dryer complimentary shower gel and shampoos!). Uninterrupted views of Hoy from the front of the house and loads of outdoor space to kick a ball about. About 20 minutes from the Stromness ferry the Croft is remote enough to hear nothing but the odd passing boat and handful of geese. Very peaceful.

The location of the Lodges is amazing, the views spectacular. Even though the weather was poor during my stay, the ambiance of this magical location was wonderful. A short walk to the water’s edge to bird watch or take a bracing dip, incredible views across the water to Hoy etc and equidistant from Stromness and Kirkwall. The Lodge is very well equipped, well insulated against the driving wind and rain that I experienced and a lot of thought has gone into all aspects of this top notch retreat. Being well off the main road, the peace and tranquility adds to the overall experience and I would recommend Buxa as a first rate choice for a very enjoyable stay.

Wow, thank you for such a complimentary review despite the horrible weather you experienced! The weather you endured due to Storm Gerritt affected all of the UK and caused quite a lot of damage. Thankfully, not to our properties. We are delighted that you have chosen to book again this summer and I am sure you will have an even more enjoyable experience with better weather!

We had such a lovely stay at Buxa Farm Chalet. We were greeted by Kathy, who had a lovely basket of Orkney specialties and a bottle of wine waiting for us. Our cottage was comfortable and very well appointed. After each outing, we were glad to come “home” to just sit and look at the beautiful views from our cottage. We loved Orkney and all that there was to see and do, but we really loved staying where we did.

I have learned from many years of travelling that where you stay can "make or break" your holiday. That is why we make such an effort to make the accommodations at Buxa extra special. The views we can''t take credit for, we just chose the place to develop. It seems like we chose the right place as the views of the land, water and hills are spectacular. It makes me so happy that you appreciate our efforts and loved staying there. Thank you for your review.

We stayed in the Croft House. It was just as described! Tastefully renovated with stunning views out over the sea inlet. It was really well equipped especially the kitchen. And there were plenty of towels, and even lots of complimentary toiletries in the bathrooms. The owner was really helpful and went to lots of trouble to provide everything you would ever need in a self catering holiday home. We would highly recommend!

Awake in a comfortable bed; gaze across a field of green to Scapa Flow, Island of Hoy in the distance; brew a cup of coffee in a well-equipped kitchen, rainbow just outside; this is Buxa Farm Chalets. We stayed in the remodeled Croft house and found it packed full of helpful information for exploring the islands. Each day started with adventure planning around the kitchen table. We ate in several nights and had everything we needed to fix a good meal. The hosts were clearly focused on ensuring we had a enjoyable time and responded quickly to our inquiries. We were 45 years between visits to the Orkneys, it won’t take so long next time!

Where do you start with such a great setup. Kathy and Keith have established a wonderful B&B operation with their farm chalets located in pretty much “heaven on earth”. Buxa Lodge was in a commanding position on the edge of Scapa Flow bay and as such, was ideally situated to enjoy the total serenity of the bay and the nearby islands. When it comes to remote unsoiled scenery, nothing quite says it like waking up each morning and peering out your bedroom window to witness the sunrise burst into life as the cows grazed and the fishermen out collecting their crab pots. Peaceful with a capital “P”. Our visit also included attendance with our three young grandchildren and we couldn’t have been happier. There was none of the big city concerns normally associated with living in a place like London. They just ate breakfast and wandered off to hand feed the nearby cows each morning while we planned the days activities. On the odd day when it rained they were happy to explore the nearby beach and made full use of the small children’s playground next to the chalet. We were there for a week and found that most of the historic Neolithic sites that Orkney is famous for were no more than 30mins drive away via travel on deserted roads. Summary Hosts - Kathy and Keith were superbly helpful in every way. Nothing was an issue. Accommodation and facilities - modern and first rate with nothing to be spared. Location - First class Tourist activities - every day was a chance to learn something new and the Orkneys have plenty to learn about. Traffic issues - non existent A wonderful week in an ideal location that would be difficult to surpass.

We are so happy that you and the grandchildren created such happy memories in our self-catering croft. We have worked hard to make Buxa Farm Chalets and Croft House an idyllic place for children and it sounds like it indeed was, for your grandchildren. Orkney does not have the magic of Disney, but it does have it's own special magic , and there are so many things for children to see and do. Thank you for such an extensive and thoughtful review and we hope to see you all back in the near future!

We stayed in Buxa Farm Chalets for a week in August with two children (3&5) and absolutely loved it! It was so well set up, had everything you could possibly need and was in a great location. The slide and swings provided great entertainment for the little ones and the view from the living area was spectacular. An on-site laundry room (with tumble drier) made life a lot easier. Kathy was a super host and I would have no hesitation recommending Buxa Farm to anyone visiting Orkney!
