I think this must be one of the the friendliest places I have stayed in. The flat we stayed in for self-catering was clean and and tidy with great views. You could watch the sheep, ducks, ponies from the window while you eat your tea. And we ate duck eggs too! And the cooked breakfast was good too with the eggs coming from the farm! This place deserves all of the compliments it can get. Thank you for having us stay. I would highly recommend to any who is looking to stay in Orkney and have some amazing views and very friendly hosts. Its only around a 15 minutes drive from Kirkwall too and I think there is a fairly regular bus service!

Just back from a 2 night stay. Couldn't fault the accommodation or facilities. Margaret and Raymond are wonderful hosts who manage to make you feel at home in their home. On arrival Raymond made us a cuppa and provided beautiful shortbread straight out the oven. More home baked biscuits left in the room each day. Breakfast is amazing and sets you up for the day. Homemade bread, high quality sausage and bacon with eggs fresh from the hens outside and tomatoes from the garden. Can't wait to return! Thank you Margaret and Raymond xx

We stayed here for a few nights in one of the self catering apartments and what a stunning find it was.

The apartment was clean, well furnished and had all the utensils you would need. It was very reasonably priced.

Lying in bed, looking up out the window and seeing shooting stars was amazing.

In a rural but Central location. Very quiet and lots of parking.

The owners were very friendly and showed us round the apartment. After this, we knew they were on hand if needed, but they gave us our space. When we left, they showed us photos of the Northern Lights over the property. Something to return for!!

Would stay here again if on the Island.

Excellent self catering facilities with the most welcoming owners. Nothing is to much. Highly recommend.

Its located between Stromness and kirkwall so fantastic access to the island. Its less than 2 miles from waulkmill bay one of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland and highly worth a visit. Beautiful view to wake up too.

Stayed here for two nights on a whistle stop tour of Orkney. 10/15 mins drive out of Kirkwall, Foinhaven is exceptionally comfortable and decorated to high standards. Our room was en-suite (as most if not all were) Digital TV (Freeview) in rooms along with tea/coffee making facilities. Ideal location for touring the Orkney mainland or Hoy, Flotta or Shapinsay. Breakfast was excellent and both Mr & Mrs Wishart full of local knowledge (both Orcadians). Wonderful views to Waulkmill Bay of Scapa Flow.

My husband and I booked for one week in July in the two bedroom apartment at Foinhaven. Im not going to waste you time by telling you how fabulous it was, but on the premiss that actions speak louder than words, I will tell you that when leaving I left a deposit on the flat so we can go back for TWO weeks next year. Thank you so much Margaret and Raymond.

The things I wondered about:- You will not need towels, hand, bath or tea. Ample supply of washing clothes, washing up liquid, shower gel and a brand new scourer put out. There was a welcome pack of milk, butter, tea, coffee, sugar and bread. There was pots pans, electric wok, baking tins, scales... even a thermos flask. Electrically speaking there was a cooker, kettle microwave, fridge freezer, hairdryer, heater and a coffee cafetiere. The ironing board, iron and vacuum cleaner were not in the flat but easily accessible

Orcadians tend to use O2 for their mobile phone provider and they seem very happy with the coverage. I however use three and coverage was appalling, no signal at all in Kirkwall or Stromness however I had two bars on my iPhone in the apartment. The free wifi in the apartment wasn’t sluggish.

Neither my husband or myself are wheel chair users but I doubt these apartments would be suitable for them as access to the apartments is up a staircase, and there is no internal lift. Although once up there the doors are wide enough and everything is on the flat.

Situated almost equidistant between Stromness and Kirkwall this apartment is an ideal base to explore West Mainland and its attractions. Of the photographs I propose to submit with this review all were taken within 100 yards of Foinhaven, though it only appears in the one with the sheep. And three were taken from the window.

Decided to use again this year having had many visits previously. Raymond and Margaret being Orcadian have tremendous local knowledge. With their own hens the breakfast cannot get any better ! Lots of parking space, with a pleasant quiet setting. Room was spotless with lots of cupboard space and a great shower.
Tremendous breakfast selection to set you up for the day. I have over many years used innumerable B&B's and none come remotely close to Foinhaven.

I've been to Scotland four times and stayed at many bed and breakfasts there over the years, but hands down, this was the best place of all. Margaret and Raymond are lovely, helpful people who make your stay very special. They let us help out feeding the lambs, offered great advice about where to eat and what to do, cooked a very filling and generous breakfast, and generally made us feel at home. The location is great - you're just a short car ride away from everything. We enjoyed some lovely evening walks at the nearby Waulkmill Bay - sometimes we had this beautiful beach all to ourselves. The room was spotless and we had a great view from our window. The price was very reasonable. Hope to make it back there some day!

3 of us stayed in one of the new flats for 4 nights and it was great! Free wifi, flatscreen tv, big comfortable sofas, great views from the kitchen, diner, lounge area. Only a 10minute drive into Kirkwall, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owners were very friendly and informative.
Will certainly go back!!
