The overall experience of this Ryokan is great. The hosts are very friendly and make sure that you enjoy your stay and relax although their English is basic. The place and the facilities are very traditional Japanese. While we found all the aspects of this place are outstanding the dinner experience was without doubt the best of Ikariya. As a...

The hosts are a superfriendly older couple, doing everything to make us feel comfortable. The food is delicious and for once more then enough :-). Big clean rooms and good situated in the main/old cosy street of the village, not far from the monkey park

Lovely traditional family run ryokan. Hosts are a sweet elderly couple who, despite limited English language skills, went out of their way to make you feel at home and to make conversation. Glad I got to enjoy this very traditional ryokan experience. When we got off the train at the station, there was an English speaking information center guy that was able to call our ryokan to see how we best get there. We were put on a city bus and sent our way. Luckily for us, the inn-keeper was waiting for...

Sometimes I read reviews of Westerners that complain about Japanese Inns being cold in winter, using a gas/kerosene heater, there being no sound insulation between rooms etc. But this is just the way traditional Japanese houses are made, and this place is no exception.
