The inn was little hard to find for first timers. We had to rely on the Shirakawa-go paper map, and tried to find our way after we alight from the Nohi bus. It didn't help that our sneakers were not prepared for the snow on the ground, and that there wasn't really any visible signages anywhere. It took some time,...

This is a small and cozy ryokan with very friendly host. it is at the end of the village and it might take 15 minutes walk from the bus station. the meals were excepetional and Shimizu drove us to a conveinient store and back to the station with the luggage which is not a real common practice

It's a farm stay and yes so the walls are paper thin. We had 4 other housemates who were quite considerate so no rowdy neighbours. The futon mattress setup was comfortable, no issue with it. In the summer the place could be very warm in the day but once the sun set the temperature drop quite quickly. What I really...

We stayed at Mrs. Shimizu in traditilnal japanese guest house and it was great (might be expensive for some students and young coupples - total for two persons 20 000 JPY/night). Japanese dinner and breakfast was included. Our host was very kind and nice, place is definitely recommended!

This ryokan is a little further from the bridge and up on a slop. It is on one end of the village, is quite and peaceful. The host is friendly and can managed few English. There are 3 rooms on first level. 2 toilets and 1 bathroom. The bedroom is very simple, with electric table fan.

This is the second time that I visit the incredible village of Shirakawa-go. Words cannot express the beauty of this timeless place. Shimizu has been my "home" in both occasions and I'm always so happy to come back here. The atmosphere is incredible, the family is extremely kind and the food is exceptionally tasty. I recommend Shimizu to everyone that...

We visited in late June, and there were no other families in the house that night, so it's very easy for us not having to share the bathrooms with others. But they do have enough bathrooms/toilets for 3 families to share with. The rooms are simple and clean. Meals are good too. The location is away from the main road,...

We arrived around 3:30 from Kanazawa and there were still crowds of people from tour busses. By 4:30 the crowds were gone and you could walk the streets only seeing one or two people. We took a walk after dinner to listen to the frogs singing in the rice paddies. We left on the 9:30 bus for Takayama just as...

The minshuku is situated at the quiet end of the village with a great view of the mountain and the fields. Air is fresh and clean. Rooms are very tidy and comfortable. Good supply of hot water and electricity. The host is a lady who speaks very good English. She is friendly and efficient. The three spots she recommended are...
