Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The best. Just stay here. Nao and Kimi are so lovely and helpful in every way. Booking includes: washing, private onsens, pickup/drop off service, movies, Nintendo and wii games, massage chairs, hair curling iron, books to read, adaptable breakfast (we requested vegan), medicine when needed, close to Main Street and around the corner from Hakuba base camp bus terminal, 30 second walk to the snow shuttle, discounted lift passes. Recommend doing your own research on which snow resort to visit each day, and if you’re a big eater plan for a second breakfast. Otherwise everything else is provided for you. Have fun!

What a fantastic B&B. The hosts, Nao and Kimmi are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble - with amazing breakfasts and proximity to restaurants, buses etc this was the ideal introduction to Japan! As first time visitors we were worried about where to stay but after reading the reviews on the Eternal Flame booked it. It was the perfect place for us. Nao gave us advice on places to eat (& he would book it for us if needed), transport, where best to ski/board each day. He even wrote down how to get to Kyoto, including train times, changes of platforms etc. We had a room with an en-suite which was great, however the main bathroom was exceptionally clean and would be OK. There are two private onsen rooms to soak in after a day on the slopes. They can’t be booked but honestly you wouldn’t stay in them longer than 20 mins. There is a ski storage/drying room to put your gear at the end of the day and ensure it all dries. We will definitely go back to the Eternal Flame!

The staff at Eternal Flame are fantastic, they are so thoughtful and friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The breakfasts are amazing, a different option served everyday and they were all 10/10! The hotel is really clean, great private onsens which are lovely after a day on the slopes. The shuttles buses leave from outside the hotel and restaurants are a 5-10 minute walk away. I strongly recommend Eternal Flame as a great place to stay while in Hakuba.

We stayed at Eternal Flame for 4 nights at the end of our ski trip and were blown away! Nao, Kimmi, Tomo and the other staff went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The lodge was impeccably clean, warm, comfortable and conveniently located. It’s surrounded by great restaurants and a 10 minute walk to Echoland. There are also 2 bus stops outside which have free shuttles to the mountains and you get dropped back there after the day of skiing. Nao kept us informed on bus times and recommended the best mountains to ski each day based on weather - very helpful! One of the highlights for us were the breakfasts. They were cooked each morning by Kimmi and simply incredible! We would have paid for breakfasts like these when going out for brunch back home in New Zealand. We were so impressed, especially considering they’re complimentary. We would love to stay at Eternal Flame again and would highly recommend this lodge to anyone visiting Hakuba. Japanese hospitality at its finest! Thanks so much Nao, Kimmi and the team for making our stay so memorable.

We were wowed by our experience at Eternal Flame, and can’t imagine a more wonderful inn for our first time skiing in Japan. Cleanliness, incredible hospitality, attention to detail, ease of access to the slopes, overall warmth, delicious food, and great value...what more could you want? My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in mid-January. When we were doing research for our trip, we were a bit overwhelmed because we didn’t speak Japanese. Where should we stay? Where should we ski? Is it better to stay close to town or close to the slopes? The best decision we made was staying at Eternal Flame. It is a small inn run by a lovely Japanese family in a peaceful forested area. Outside the front door are two bus stops which can take you to all the ski hills you’d like. Nao, the innkeeper, will answer all your questions about the ski bus system (which is free) and which mountains to ski at depending on the weather. Every morning, we were treated to a phenomenal breakfast made by Kimi, Nao’s wife. I can’t overstate how incredible these breakfasts were! Every day had a new menu, and every item was simply delicious—crepes, eggs, yogurt, creamy soups, oatmeal, salads, etc. They did a great job accommodating my pescatarian dining preferences, and I saw the staff take good care of another visitor at the inn who was gluten-free. I would pay good money to eat Kimi’s cooking any day! The inn is super clean and there is no detail left unconsidered. The rooms are small, as we expected for Japan, so we spent a lot of time in the communal living room where the staff would bring us little snacks to munch on. Nao arranged for a ski rental company to come pick us up from the inn, and at the end of our stay, we just left the skis with him instead of having to walk them back to the shop. Kimi also brought us to the bus terminal at the end of our stay so that we didn’t have to pay for a taxi (which would have been about $10 USD). And every evening, Nao made dinner reservations for us at his favorite restaurants. We really appreciated this because January is high season and there are tourists everywhere. He saved us from having to wait in line for mediocre tourist food. The inn also has two private onsen to soak our legs in after a long day skiing powder. My husband and I usually stay in Airbnb’s when we travel. We briefly considered it for Hakuba, but in the end Eternal Flame was perfect for us. We were very glad to have a local show us the ropes at Habuka. I can’t recommend Eternal Flame highly enough. I will dream of Kimi’s breakfasts until the next time that we are lucky enough to return to Habuka!

Awesome awesome awesome. Friendly, professional and family run by husband wife team. Cleaned rooms everyday, free laundry, different chef prepared breaky everyday, bookings and info from owner and host Nao are excellent and on point. He even can call and book a restaurant or taxi at your request and give good daily recommendations. He even kindly gave us a little upgrade of room and a complimentary bottle of Champagne for getting our bus time for shuttle mixed up. Super nice and hospitable to the max. Always friendly and helpful. The Nintendo Wii in the main room on the big screen was a nice touch!! Would certainly come back. GUY - 4 friends, AUSTRALIA

What an amazing stay, the best hospitality we have ever had! From day one we were welcomed with a lovely smile and a great knowledge of the surroundings. The room was always cleaned after we had left for the day so it was lovely to come back to. The food was incredible! The fire in the living room and the onsens were just perfect after a long day of skiing. Honestly I can say there was nothing bad about my stay here.

We stayed at Eternal Flame with family (all adults) and could not have been happier with the hospitality and service. Nao and Kimmy were always accommodating, even lending their boots to one of our injured family members so he could still enjoy visiting the snow monkeys. Nao booked some of the loveliest restaurants for us though our favourite meal was onsite and cooked by his wife. Accommodation was immaculately clean and perfect for our needs. If we are ever fortunate enough to return to Hakuba, we will return to Eternal Flame.
