The warm hospitality of Nao and Kimmi makes Eternal Flame feel like a home away from home, and the exquisite breakfasts have to be seen (and eaten) to be believed. Due to our arrival schedule, Nao kindly upgraded us to their new cabins just outside the main house, and they are nothing short of sensational. Based on the concept of Japanese minimalist design with every comfort imaginable, the 4 bed cabins are like walking into your own luxury suite. Combined with easy access by bus to the ski resorts, private on-site Onsens, a short walk to the restaurants of Echoland (where Nao made us bookings every night), you simply cannot do better than a stay at Eternal Flame 🔥

The service from the host Now and Kimmy were first class. The daily three course breakfast was excellent. They picked us up and dropped us off at the train station. They arranged ski gear rentals, booked restaurants for us when asked and also sorted lift passes. The lounge area was very relaxing with complimentary coffee and chocolates all day. Would recommend staying here. Nothing was too much trouble.

What a fantastic B&B. The hosts, Nao and Kimmi are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble - with amazing breakfasts and proximity to restaurants, buses etc this was the ideal introduction to Japan!
As first time visitors we were worried about where to stay but after reading the reviews on the Eternal Flame booked it. It was the perfect place for us. Nao gave us advice on places to eat (& he would book it for us if needed), transport, where best to ski/board each day. He even wrote down how to get to Kyoto, including train times, changes of platforms etc.
We had a room with an en-suite which was great, however the main bathroom was exceptionally clean and would be OK.
There are two private onsen rooms to soak in after a day on the slopes. They can’t be booked but honestly you wouldn’t stay in them longer than 20 mins.
There is a ski storage/drying room to put your gear at the end of the day and ensure it all dries.
We will definitely go back to the Eternal Flame!

The best. Just stay here. Nao and Kimi are so lovely and helpful in every way. Booking includes: washing, private onsens, pickup/drop off service, movies, Nintendo and wii games, massage chairs, hair curling iron, books to read, adaptable breakfast (we requested vegan), medicine when needed, close to Main Street and around the corner from Hakuba base camp bus terminal, 30 second walk to the snow shuttle, discounted lift passes.
Recommend doing your own research on which snow resort to visit each day, and if you’re a big eater plan for a second breakfast. Otherwise everything else is provided for you. Have fun!

This was our first trip to Japan. Before we went I had read all about how hospitable Japanese people are, but I was still blown away by the service at Eternal Flame. The hosts are amazing at their job and create a wonderful atmosphere. You feel comfortable, like you're at home, but far more elegant and luxurious! We visited as a group of 9 adults of parents, in-laws, brothers and friends and we were well accommodated, it was especially nice to have the lounge to relax in after a day of skiing. Nau can help you with arrangements to catch the shuttle to go skiing and can also sell you discounted lift tickets. The breakfasts were always excellent, tasty and nutritious, with lots of variety as well. Eternal Flame is located near lots of restaurants and bars, but you MUST stay in for dinner while you're there too, the food is oishii!

This very comfortable and amazing value pensione is well located near Ecoland near a good choice of restaurants and bars. For Japan the rooms are a reasonable size and although basic are quite comfortable either with ensuite or shared facilities. The common areas are nicely appointed, very relaxing and cosy, with free tea, coffee and internet available. Our hosts Kimmy and Nao showed us exceptional warmth and hospitality booking restaurants for us, picking us up and delivering us to the station, organising extra bags to be delivered directly to the airport, lift tickets, and most importantly cooking fantastic breakfasts to start our ski day. Dinner can be organised in house and is restaurant quality and great value. We will stay here agin when next we ski in Hakuba.

It is our 3rd snow holiday in Hakuba and we stayed at Eternal Flame for at least 5 days each trip here, each time with more friends and we all love the place and hospitality.
Host Kimi-San will pick us up from Hakuba Happo bus terminal ( if timing doesn't clash with meal preparation n meal time) 5 mins car ride to the beautiful purple colored house down a small road among other beautiful pensions.
Rooms are very cosy. Go for the basic room with shared shower n jap bath. Its very clean n good enough for the average traveller.Or take an ensuite. Clean towels everyday.
You must have your dinner at Eternal Flame at least once. Inform them a day in advance. Western Jap style 4-5 course sumptous dinner prepared by lady boss Kimi-San who used to be chef in Tokyo before she moved here. Super good value and hospitality!
The only thing we felt was missing is a laundry service but you could take a 15mins walk to Echoland for coin operated laundry. While u r there for laundry, you should dine at Sarugaku restaurant that serves the best Kakuni-Jap stewed pork. Restaurant recommendations from the pension owner Nao-San who prefers to send his customers to the unpretentious restaurants with good food n value. We also like Zen for jap food and Garlic for pizza m pasta in a quaint little log house.
Nao-San will also advise you on ski or snowboard gear rentals from Rainbow rental n discount ski pass.
Bring Cash because ATMs are not so convenient but credit card is accepted everywhere! there is a 7Eleven-Mizuho that has an ATM accepting Master Cards just across the road from Zen restaurant.
By the way every morning we will walk only 5mins to the shuttle bus stop from Eternal Flame and hop on several buses that take u to Happo, Goryu or Hakuba slopes. Guests range from Jap families to western couples to small groups.
There is a spacious living room with TV, music and Nintendo Wii for guest use anytime before 10pm.
The hosts here are such nice people and that is what makes us come back each time. We always feel we havnt thanked them enough, so each time we come, we bring Kimi n Nao-san a little gift from our country, it is nice putting a smile on their faces! This is the place to stay if you are looking for a cosy place to stay for your ski trip.

We had a lovely time at Eternal Flame. Nao, Kimmy, Alina and Tono and could not have been more hospitable, really thinking of everything. From organising hire skis to be delivered and picked up from the hotel, to booking dinner reservations (all Nao’s recommendations were excellent), the service and hospitality was exceptional. Breakfasts are amazing a the room was very clean and comfortable.

Excellent place for skiing vacation, The location is not far from ski park, you can drive about 10-15 minutes to any ski park around there or take a bus. There are 2 private Onsen in shower room. And my favorite was massage chairs that really good for my stiff back after skiing. The owner was very friendly and helpful ,his wife is a very good chef. You can have a wonderful full course dinner here but not everyday. The room was not too big and comfortable. Finally his 2-year-old son was really cute, I still miss him.^^

It's never too early to book-I would do it asap. With an exchage rate of about 80 AUD cents to $1 yen (similar to now) it cost approx $270 p/nite for 2 rooms -one twin, one double with ensuite). The 5 course dinner they serve (you must book the day before though) is approx $25 AUD p/person-very inexpensive and delicious. There are not any cooking facilities-we did use the hot water to make 2 min noodles for the kids-otherwise its a 6-8 min walk to the "Lawson"-like a 7/11 where you could buy some ready meals-mostly salad, sushi, karage chicken, potato gems, chicken skewers-that sort of thing. Also you can buy alcohol there. We bought pizza for the kids one night and walked up to the Italian (3-4 mins) Restaurant Syo to collect it. Cherry Pub (2-3 min walk) does western style food, quite good, similar prices to hm.
