We travelled as a family of 4 first-time skiiers not knowing exactly what to expect. Maruyama-san and his family at this wonderful little family-run inn did a fantastic job of looking after us. Apart from picking us up from the bus terminal on arrival and dropping us back when we were leaving, there were multiple occasions when they (Maruyama-san, his... More

The family and staff here went above and beyond for us during our 4 night stay, running us to and from the station, calling and checking snow lifts for us, and always being willing to have a friendly chat. The accom itself was exceedingly comfortable, and having the onsen after a hard day on the slopes was a dream! 10... More

To start, let me just say that staying at this ryokan should a no-brainer for the majority of people. The only exception may be those expecting a 4- or 5-star Western-style hotel, and aren't open to alternatives: if that's you, then give this a skip. Everyone else, read on... This hotel is well situated five mins walk from the bottom of happo-one slopes. The staff are charming and attentive, and kindly offered to drive us to and from Hakuba station either side of our stay. The rooms are spacious and the futon mattresses are quite soft compared with some Ryokans in Japan! Only suggestion would be a choice of... More

I was blown away by my first Japanese inn experience. We were welcomed warmly and treated as royalty the entire 5 night stay. The rooms were very clean, and I had no issues with the space or facilities. Floor and bedding was a new experience for me (tatami mats and thin mattresses) but after a day of skiing we had... More

Just finished 5 nights stay at the family-run Maruni Ryokan with 3 friends and couldn't fault it in any way. Started well with us getting collected from the bus station / information centre upon arrival on our Nagano Snow Shuttle from Narita Airport (credit to that company too for them contacting Maruni to advise them of our arrival) and our... Stayed here in december 2013. The room was actually bigger than stated, a pleasant surprise. It was spacious and clean, with good layout. Had a powder room, spacious bathroom, and open concept vanity sinktop. bed was tatami style. located near the bus terminus and dining area, walkable to Nakiyama ski slopes. onsen at ground floor. Tranquil surroundings, amongst other ryokans.... More
