It was the all-inclusive vacation we didn’t know that we needed (with no hidden fees for the entire vacation). We booked through the Club Med website, which made it easy to arrange flights and transportation to and from the resort at a much lower price than market value. Bonus tip, book during the summer off-season when the resort is less crowded with almost no wait time for activities (5 minutes max during our stay).

Our experience with JAL was smooth and comfortable. Choosing a smaller airport that was slightly farther away (New Chitose) saved us some money and (luckily for us) resulted in our own private taxi ride to and from the hotel with beautiful scenery for the entire ride (a 64,000-yen value).

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the bubbly personalities of Eric (Village Chief), Jackie, and Dian (front desk staff) with Club Med bracelets, refreshing green tea, warm towels, Mina Mina Beach wave park vouchers for the duration of our stay, and two gondola tickets for the Unkai Terrace attraction. The bracelets are color-coded with membership status and age, so no need to carry your wallet or ID around.

The staff took the time to get to know us and provided details regarding activities that we might want to try. They are able to converse with guests in a variety of languages, including English and Japanese. The daily activities were very well planned and executed. Some of our favorites were archery, cocktail making, and yoga.

Hint: The circus show is the must-see for your stay. We arrived at the theater early enough to snag great seats, and danced the night away with the GO team (staff members) afterwards. I recommend trying the trapeze activity before you see the circus show. The circus team is very friendly, and will teach you various ways to safely fly through the air. If there is not a long line, you can soar through the activity as many times as you’d like. I went through it 4 times because it was so much fun. The trapeze staff are amazingly skilled, and they are so fun to be around! The days were filled with as many activities as we wanted to try, and the schedule also allowed for breaks and food. I cannot stress enough that you will not have ANY boring adventures here.

The buffet was incredible, and you will be greeted like royalty at the entrance to each meal. The chefs even talk to you about the cuisine as they make it to order in front of you. Variety and luxury are understatements to describe this place. You are escorted to your table, and the place settings are arranged beautifully at each meal. Note: the GOs typically offer to join you for lunch and dinner. You can turn them down, but I wouldn’t recommend it. There are personable and friendly staff members from all over the world who offer the opportunity for interesting and lively conversations. Shaun from finance and I talked forever about technology and the future of artificial intelligence. Gwen from housekeeping was the funniest, and made my spouse laugh non-stop. If you are lucky, you may even get to join a department party for additional fun (thank you Nikki and the finance team for your hospitality!). Even for introverts like us, it was a wonderful time.

The Main Bar offers fast service and showmanship when making your drinks. They also deliver to your table with a view, so no need to wait at the bar. Jack is the best, and catered to our every need. Be sure to see him. At the adjoining theater, you should also meet Aoy. She is the most caring individual and made us feel so included in the dancing, shows, and activities. She is truly remarkable. There is also the Nest Bar, where you can purchase premium sake and whiskey flights for a reasonable price. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, and that it wasn’t too crowded. The bartender graciously explained the different sake brands we were tasting, and made sure that we had plenty of tasty snacks.

The family suite was the perfect accommodation for the two of us. There was a special gift and cute towel animal on the bed when we arrived. The extensive mini bar was included and refreshed daily. Turndown service essentially provided us with fast and thorough housekeeping twice a day. We did not have close neighbors, which made our stay quiet and undisturbed. The view of the trees and the unlimited sunlight in the morning added to our delight. Two bathrooms allowed us to get ready for the day without delay, and the giant TV and large soaking tub made the stay extra enjoyable. Don’t forget the luggage service, which made sure that our luggage arrived at the suite before us and was delivered to the lobby in time for our departure. Kudos to the staff for managing our two 18 kg suitcases. Reception was quick to respond to any questions, and requests were carried out efficiently. The suite also included an in-room breakfast that was delicious and made to our liking. Thankfully, we were also able to push back check-out to accommodate our evening flight.

It was sad to say goodbye, but Shelly, Shaun, Sal, Aoy, Eric, Top, Kevin, Kaja, Edo, and Viola made us feel special by waving the Club Med flags as our taxi departed. Eric and the GO team truly made this vacation incredible for us. We will absolutely return for our next vacation.

Have everything you need, rooms are being cleaned twice a day, especially during this state of emergency , they clean the whole resort thoroughly from the floor to handrail to all the furnitures etc. Food is excellent, drinks are awesome. Guest relation Caleb and Restaurant Manager Sam is super helpful. My snowboard instructor Bryce is very detail oriented and being very patient at correcting all the techniques. Thank you for the everything. Will be back next year.

This is my first trip with Club Med and the experience was wonderful. Though I usually don't bother to write any review, I think I should write one this time to give credit to the G.O team (staff).

Skiing/Snowboarding experience

Hokkaido is not called as snow paradise for no reason. The snow was soft and smooth which made my skiing/snowboarding experience so enjoyable. Besides, the ski/snowboard instructors were patient and attentive. It's my third/fourth time to learn skiing and first time to learn snowboarding. Though the teaching pace was not fast, the instructors did spend sufficient time to make sure our foundation skills are adequate for the next level's class. With sufficient practice on the basic skills, I was even confident to get on the chair lift right after my first snowboard beginner lesson and got off the slope safely.

Atmosphere/Relationship with G.O at the resort

This part surprised me the most. As this is my first time at Club Med, honestly, I did not have any expectation and did not know what's going on. Later on, I knew that a G.O would accompany us to have meals. Thanks to the multinational background of the G.O team, we did have G.O Candice, also from Hong Kong, to enjoy the meals with us. I like the interactions. On one hand, Candice provided assistance and information to us throughout our trip professionally; on the other hand, she treated us like friends more than guests (for example, persuading us so hard to join the karaoke session which we might not join originally, anyway we did enjoy the session). The close bonding with G.O made us tended to participate in the evening events more proactively. The atmosphere was always cheerful and energetic which helped me to get out of daily stress and enjoy my holiday. Got really surprised when I knew that all performers in the evening events were actually from the G.O team. The 'Rewrite the Stars Show did impress me a lot. The feeling was more like enjoying a show by friends.

In all, I personally enjoyed this trip a lot and have already been waiting for another trip with Club Med Tomamu right after leaving Japan. If you like skiing/snowboarding and enjoy a cheerful and energetic atmosphere, Club Med Tomamu will not let you down.

Thank you Club Med for a wonderful, relaxing and meaningful holiday time. Staff were all so friendly and helpful. Food was tasty, beautifully plated and with great variety. We stayed for about 10 days and did not see same food for a whole week. The shows were exciting and fun to watch, especially knowing that most of the performers are non-professionals. We also love the evening programs for kids in the Mini Club, which starts at 1915 most of the nights. This gives us dinner time with our daughter and also sometime to ourselves after she went to join the Mini Club events. What a great idea. I also appreciate the food choices given to kids - there is a balance of veggies and protein, not taking the easy way of just giving them what they like. I was pregnant during the stay but still there was an abundance of activities I could join, such as Zumba, yoga, snow trekking etc. Really appreciate the snow trekking team, especially Gareth for taking me to a solo snow trekking on the first day so that he can properly respond to any emergency situation, which I luckily didn’t have. Also thankful of the ski instructors of Mini Club in helping and encouraging my daughter to gain tremendous progress in skiing. Last but not the least, the whole place is artfully decorated. The arts on the wall, the spacious and beautiful bar area. Oh and also I really appreciate the presence of the chief of village Brenden (sorry if I spelled his name wrong). He’s literally everywhere - performing in the show, greeting and chatting with the guests and even sometimes help sanitizing our hands with alcohol. I’m not surprised this passion to his work and to details inspire the whole staff to do their work passionately and diligently. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday during a difficult time. Hope to see you all again!

In this Covid time we could not expect anything better. Hygiene measure were properly in place and maintained. Level of service was never down all staff member with such good attention. Room are very clean and completely renovated (like new). Restaurant is amazing with talented cooks including Chinese and Japanese cuisine but not only. Super high quality ingredient. Kids caring at miniclub is great thanks to the clubmed team, looking after them before and after ski lesson , lunch time and even dinner if needed. They proposed the children many fun activities after ski including rehearsal and performance of a dance show with beautiful costume.
The usual struggles of skiing is non existent here since a ski rental provides you with all necessary equipment with a personal locker right at the bottom of the ski slopes. Included ski lessons are provided for all levels, ski and surf, in order to improve your skills.
Maybe the only weak point is the number of ski slopes and lift: domain is not at the upmost design and optimization especially if you want to ski at a good rythm as access to technical slopes is limited in case 1 or 2 lifts get closed. However we could still enjoy skiing a lot in the fresh and amazing snow of Hokkaido.
Staying there may be pricey, but you don’t need to disburse more than planned and it is definitely worth it.
Last but not least, all staff member are multitalented, from all around the world and speaking many languages, very nice, perfectly trained and managed.
We definitely want to come back.
Thank you

Having spent time in skiing in Korea and Niseko, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Club Med Tomamu. The resort is relatively new and all facilities were kept in good condition. The staff at the resort were friendly and engaging. The service was excellent from all levels and departments inside the resort. The food was excellent in quality and taste considering every meal is a buffet style service. On special nights over Chinese New Year, there were premium items such as Japanese wagyu beef, O-toro, Hokkaido king crab, foie gras being served... all you can eat! The shows in the evening were spectacular and enjoyable, almost up to Broadway and Cirque de Soleil standards! I found it amusing how the service staff and ski instructors that manage the resort during the day can find time to perform the shows in the evening. Even the Chief (Jessie) de Village and the Assistant Chief de Village (Zack) were performing! The kids had a fantastic time and the child care services were amazing. How often can I enjoy a private lunch with my wife during a family ski trip anywhere else? The slopes were not as challenging as Niseko but for me, an intermediate snowboarder, it was more than enough. I preferred this to Niseko where the slopes are more crowded, and snow is heaps better than Korea. The onsen and wave pool is literally across the street from the resort and is included in the stay. Only downside is that the village is remote and there is not much outside of the resort to visit or do other than an Ice Village.

Jesse and her team have (I will note the GO'S but also the staffs in the restaurant ) made our stay a memorable experience. The kindness of the team, the activities proposed, the variety and quality of the food have to be highlighted. The rooms are 5 stars.
Last, in this period of pandemic, the regular cleaning and sanitization of all the premises reminded me what Club Med is all about: make their GM comfortable and happy !!
Thank you Jease and all the team at Tomamu ! See you soon again !

As always, Clubmed delivered on experience, food and service.
The resort is well maintained, every GO, coach and staff were friendly, helpful and everywhere.
The easiest way to tell was that the kids loved their coaches and GOs and were sad to leave.
If you have kids then this is a no brainer ski holiday.
Food was more than excellent with the pizza really well done.
Alcohol choices and nightly shows were a good experience for the kids (and alchohol for the parents!)
I had initially left a poor review because the Wifi is awful. It’s slow and impossible to work on - if you need to download, stream or video call. The premium Wifi requires you go to to the desk to purchase and even then it’s just 5mbps. I hope this would be better next time I’m back!
I decided to improve the review as this was promptly addressed with the GO going out of their way to solve this problem.

My standard room was facing a bush. Very spacious, newish, well equipped, stylish and extremely comfortable.
House keeping was so so, often forgot to replenish disposable toiletries. Wish they supply face towels as well. Slippers were supplied but they didn't look brand new so I was not gamed to use them.
We were there from the 8 December for a week. There was not enough snowfall so only 1 slope is opened for my entire stay which was of course disappointing. You can imagine how long the line was at the chair lift and it's a beginners slope!
Best of all: eating, no fault. A lot of Japanese cuisine highlight and international as well. Best pizza! The soup, soup base, porridge are often luke warm which I think is not up to standard. So many children hogging around the buffet tables making me very nervous about the level of hygiene. I saw children mishandled food & equipment badly.
Staff in general were friendly and informative. We came across a Japanese ski instructor whose English was very hard to be understood. He should not be teaching an English speaking class.
Evening shows were just ok, nothing exciting.
The indoor wave pool was really fun especially when the snow condition was poor. There were various funny looking floaties for hiring. The semi outdoor onsen was a disappojntment, very man made and without atmosphere.

We stayed at Club Med Tomamu in the second week of January 2020 as a family of 4. Our children (ages 8 and 5) had never skied before and we decided that Club Med would offer the best structure for that. We had a wonderful time.
The ski school arrangements are excellent and our children had a magnificent time learning. Special thanks to Adrian, instructor for Star 1-3, who looked after our daughter particularly well. By the end of the week she was flying down slopes and completely relaxed on her skis.
The adult group lessons are also excellent. This was the first time back on a board for me after 11 years and SB4 instructor Tobi was first class. He did a terrific job of guiding us to find the last stashes of powder in the trees and providing pointers on style. My wife really enjoyed Club 5 skiing and thought her instructors made a really positive influence on her technique.
The food choice is excellent and the staff are hugely enthusiastic and positive. Rooms are much larger than we had anticipated and sleeping 4 to a room much more comfortable and peaceful was completely fine.
Couple of tips for those with younger children:
1. Pick the particular evenings that you want to attend the evening shows. They are fantastic fun, but sometimes run quite late. Our children wanted to attend them all, but it can mean they are tired for the morning lessons.
2. Make sure the adults take some time to visit the onsen across the road - it's a very large outdoor onsen with a view of a wonderful nighttime tree lighting arrangement.
The mountain itself has a relatively limited set of runs but there are always new lines to be found between the trees and on the edges of the pistes.
All in all, thoroughly recommended and we will definitely return.
