Our room overlooked the pond with the soothing sound of running water, which set the scene of your tranquil stay surrounded by birds singing and the sound of frogs. You feel and sense the history all around you of the buildings and onsen.

On arriving you are welcomed and given directions and guidance on the baths, rooms and meal times. There are many onsen, so pay attention to which are private, and which are male and female and the times they swap over.

Our favourite onsen was the most recently refurbished, inside what was what was originally a rice store (Kurai-yu).

Dinner and breakfast are served to you in your own private dining room. The Kaiseki meal is stunning in it beauty and taste, and the menu is to be kept and cherished.

Not to be missed before you depart is the tour of the older buildings not in use which include the rooms built to accommodate the Samurai Govenor.

A wonderful stay where you get to live a little piece of Japanese...
