During my second visit to Kawakami-mura, I had the opportunity to have lunch at the Sugi-no-yu restaurant. The salted fish was delicious, but the highlight of my lunch was the chagayu. It is rice made with tea instead of water, and then cooled and served with pickles. Seeing as chagayu is a local specialty, I was more than happy to have a chance to eat it.
We later came back to the hotel for a traditional bath. I sat in the warm bath outside, with the winter air cooling my face, listening to the sounds of the mountains and the Yoshino River below.

Unplugging from work and city life and all the devices that come with and connect us to it can be tough. Finding the place in which to do it doesn't have to be. Sugi no Yu Hotel in Nara Prefecture's Kawakami-mura is the perfect venue to effect that. The hotel has no WiFi and no internet, making it perfect for unplugging and taking things slow.
Dinners at the hotel's main restaurant are delicious works of culinary art and are prepared to be enjoyed slowly. Breakfast is an at-your-own-pace affair. Some stay packages include dinner and breakfast in the cost of the stay. Outdoor activities about in the area immediately surrounding the hotel. No one visiting here will have time to miss their phone or Facebook.
