Spending a night at the Ichijoin is an unforgettable experience. Of course it is expensive, but, for me, it was well worth it. I stayed there for a night with my husband during our honeymoon trip around China and Japan. After we arrived we had dinner - all vegetarian, wonderfully prepared (see the pictures)! Then we went for a hot...

Genuinely authentic. In this temple stay you truly are a guest. However, part of the enjoyment is observing the customs and rules. Amazing how you will notice the disconnect from the wired-in world after only a few hours. I recommend rising early to attend the morning sutra chanting. While fairly strict hours are in force, there is the luxury of...

Very traditional Japanese stay. Loved the hot baths and ryokan style living. Food was very Japanese and vegetarian though for both dinner and breakfast...lots of tofu which is an acquired taste (if you're not vegetarian then it's an unfamiliar menu). Expensive for what you get - we stayed at a ryokan in Hakone which was cheaper and much better value.

Spending a few days in a temple of a once- in - a - lifetime experience. Ichijoin's vegan kaiseki was excellent. Yes I miss my sashimi, but they are so creative with their ingredients. Location is also nice that it is walking distance from the shops and sights in town.

You have not experienced Japan until you have stayed in a temple on Mt. Koya. And I highly recommend Ichijoin as your temple accommodation. Check-in at the temple was fast and easy, dinner served at 5:30 pm in your room, and ours was a Deluxe with Garden view--highly recommend for zen meals and mornings. I feel that the art displayed...

Our family stayed at Ichijoin/Koyasan for two days and one night, and wish we could have stayed longer. I did not research the various shukubo at Koyasan very thoroughly, but stumbled across Ichijoin online and am very glad I did. We visited another shukubo during our stay and Ichijoin seemed to be the more traditional of the two, which we...

We had the suite and it was amazing. Perfect way to finish off our month holiday in japan. Thank you JTB for organising it . The location is closest to the main intersection of the township, and the staff are very accommodating. One even was exchange student in Canberra in 1998, so his English was very good.

We never would have expected what was behind the entrance to this guesthouse. Absolute luxury and serenity - perfect end to our 3 weeks in Japan. Book the suite with private ensuite - bigger than most houses. Dinner served in your suite by gorgeous staff. A must do!

We stayed at the private suite for one night and had the most satisfying experience. The dinner and breakfast were not our favorite but I think it had more to do with our tastes and not on the quality of food itself. Beautiful property and amazing people.

We were originally nervous about a temple stay in December (having read reviews of temple lodgings with tiny heaters and cold rooms) but decided to take the plunge and spend a bit extra on a nice temple. Although it initially sounds quite pricey, when you take into account the fact that the price includes an AMAZING dinner, delicious breakfast, access...
