Excellent ryokan with your own open air onsen in your room that overlooks the river and a small hill. Relax in the water with the ducks quacking nearby. The common open air onsen is great too, with ice cold pool in addition to the usual hot pool to stimulate blood circulation. Dinner is sumptuous Japanese onsen dinner. Although I thought... More

Stayed one night in end January. Liked this place, it was in an isolated valley,& the unusal snow makes the place very attractive. A river was next to the whole setting, you can actually hear the water flowing, natural & relaxing sound. Stayed in one of the room with private outdoor onsen, also next to the river, nice view esp.... More

Private indoor and private onsen is very good and surrounded by trees, plants, river. very quiet and enjoyable. The room is so far so good with bit old furniture. Food is very good, esp the horse sashimi and beef at dinner. Services is very good, the lady greeted us and serve us at dinner time. They took photo for us... More

We stayed for 2 nights at Hozantei and it was simply amazing. The staff are very friendly and could recognize us. The owner also goes around to greet the guests during meal time. On the first night, we checked into "Momiji". It is a traditional Japanese room with a terrace facing a stream with a little waterfall. The outdoor private... More

Everything was exceptional here. Nice rooms, each with private outdoor onsen overlooking the creek. One could tell the lady owner put all her heart into the place: lots of wonderful touches all around, impeccable service and wonderful folks, wonderful design, preparation and presentation of our meals, and a special selection of sakes and beers. She came around every meal to... More

Stayed at this traditional Japanese ryokan for one night during our 7 days' visit in Kyushu. We had a double room and a triple room for our group of 5. Located in the mountain and beside the river, this beautiful ryokan has a well maintained garden with lots of floral plants and a fish pond. Each room has its private... More

A boutique onsen with about a dozen rooms, many with private onsen. Service is private and personal. The public onsen looks out to a beautiful stream with soothIng sounds running water and birds. Very nice and private setting for our private open air onsen too. Love our stay very much.

Not the cheapest of places to stay, but I recommend everyone try this type of ryokan at least once in their lives. The ryokan was better than others I have stayed at. The staff were very helpful and informative. The food is a Japanese experience in itself and includes many courses, you should state in advance if you do not... More

Hozantei is hidden gem in Kurokawa. It's located a bit far from the village, but worth the visit. We went there in January, when the area was covered in snow, and just used their open-air bath facilities, during our day-trip to Kurokawa Onsen. When we arrived there by car, I spent around ten minutes just enjoying the beautiful view of... More
