I stayed with my 2 boys in August 2022. The building itself is beautiful and peaceful with lovely welcoming staff and plenty of choice for breakfast (As a coeliac, I was given lovely warm gluten free bread rolls each morning!)

The rooms were spacious, with comfortable beds and we found the wifi worked pretty well in the room as well as the communal areas.

Within the Chateau grounds, the children were able to play mini golf on a lovely little replica of Normandy golf course. There was also table tennis and a football court, with nets provided. Just outside the grounds there is a tiny village to explore with a small river and interesting church built hundreds of years ago.

Further afield, we were able to visit the beach at Courseulles-sur-Mer, explore the D Day Landing beaches and see the Bayeux Tapestry. We easily drove to Mont St Michel for a full day trip too.

Highly recommended to families during summer holidays!

I stayed here July 2022 with my young family and had a wonderful time. The location was absolutely perfect to check out all of the local historical and tourist sites. All the amazing things we did during our stay were all just a short drive away. There's fantastic access to the D-day beach landing sites, other WW2 historical landmarks, museums, stunning towns, gorgeous beaches and even an outdoor swimming pool just a 15 minute drive away. The building is lovely and full of character and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. There is a lovely lounge area and outdoor seating area where we were able to relax in the evening and have a few drinks. There's also good facilities for children including mini gold and a table tennis table on site. Rooms were clean and breakfast was great. The croissants were DELICIOUS! I'd definitely recommend to anybody visiting the area, we had an amazing trip.

Came with a school party. Food, location and staff all faultless. It made for a stress-free experience knowing the school party had the run of the place.
Areas for improvement were general lack of repairs in the rooms and the outside games areas looking pretty tired.

My child has just returned from here following 3 nights away with school. We were expecting good quality accommodation and food, which is what is shown on the hotel website. However her experience was far from the 3 star accommodation promoted online. While the location was lovely and the staff were friendly her room was extremely basic, with ill fitting curtains, stains in the toilet, and brown water coming from the bathroom taps, plus spiders coming out from the taps. The food was basic, pasta most evenings with accompanying hair in the food too! Poor breakfast range, just cereal and a croissant. Two children were physically sick following one meal. My child found an eye lash in her food and dirty cutlery at every meal. The outside area had broken chairs and full ashtrays which isn't a great look around school children. It really tainted what was an expensive trip and could have been so much nicer with some basic hygiene improvements. Definitely wouldn't recommend it!

After looking at their reviews and photos they had put up themselves, I was disappointed by the standards of the chateau! The rooms were small and very basic yet practical. They worked fine for the 3 nights we stayed here. I don't have any real complaints about them. What did shock me was the lack of hand soap in the toilets.

A more positive feature were the grounds. They were beautifully kept and spacious. This was probably the highlight of the Chateau. They included grass banks, a golf coarse and a firepit.

The location of the Chateau du Baffy was amazing for day trips and tourist attractions. It is not too far from the city of Caen, Mont St Michel, Omaha beach and the Bayeux Tapestry Museum. These make great days out.

Now I would like to talk about my more negative experiences at the Chateau du Baffy. Firstly, the hygiene. The hygiene standards were not up to scratch. The cutlery was dirty on multiple occasions not to mention hairs and eyelashes in the food.

When you think of a shower you think of getting clean, not ending up dirtier that you started. When I turned on my shower I was greeted with a family of spiders falling on me instead of water. I wasn't the only one with problems with the water, another member of our groups had brown water coming out of the taps and showers in their room.

The Chateau accommodated for vegetarians and gluten free well yet the food was appalling. The food mainly consisted of pure salt. Many people lived off of bread for our entire stay. Not only was the food disgusting but 2 people were physically sick from it (Both after eating the chicken which nobody else ate on that occasion). The cutlery was dirty and the chairs in the eating area were disintegrating underneath you.

During our stay, we compared photos from their advertising (such as on google maps and their own website) and found them to be extremely outdated and nothing like the actual Chateau. This was pretty disappointing, especially considering the price. The hygiene standards definitely need improving! Wouldn't recommend it

This hotel has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I am due to travel to the hotel in June 2024 and I booked the family room in July 2023. I have four children so I have to book well in advance in order to find a room big enough to accommodate us. I have heard nothing from the hotel since booking and five months have passed. I gave them a courtesy message via booking.com to ask about the configuration of the beds in the room, only to have a reply that my room has been cancelled and no explanation as to Why.
So I rang the hotel and the manager/owner was so awfully rude and bluntly told me that my room had been cancelled and couldn’t give me a reason why. So I said to him, what would’ve happened if I had turned up with my four children, and there was no room for us, even though I have a booking confirmation number.
He made up some excuse and said that he had messaged to say that it had been cancelled and that the room shouldn’t have been booked in the first place. So I asked for proof of this email/message and he hung up the phone.
As a family of six, we are now stuck as we cannot find another hotel for the D-Day celebrations as it’s so busy. We have booked and paid for our ferry crossings.
Do not book this hotel. It seems that they can just cancel your room as and when they like and do not care. I would’ve given zero stars if there was an option

Response from Chateau du Baffy, Owner at Chateau du Baffy
Responded 15 Jan 2024
Dear Phoebe Cave, We have investigated your review following your post. We appreciate this is upsetting and inconvenient for you. Your booking was cancelled on Monday, July 17, 2023 11:03 AM from our reservation system. From our understanding there was an issue with the bookings.com portal, as there was no availability at the Chateau on these stated dates. Evidence has been provided to booking.com directly. Again we are truly sorry, as we would of course accommodate you if this was feasible. Kind regards, Chateau du Baffy Team

A great place for a group visit. Well located for DDay beaches and memorials. Plenty of parking and easy to find.

Variety of room options from single to ‘dormitory’ which are fairly basic but perfectly adequate. All meals were good for both quality and quantity. The bar was well stocked.

However the staff are fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble. Friendly, helpful always on hand. Our experience with booking was very good.

Will definitely return here.

The Chateau du Baffy is an excellent location for school trips. We stayed there for a week, and have done so for nearly 15 years. It's a perfect launch pad for all the excellent places to visit in the area. The Chateau is comfortable, the staff are delightful and the food is wonderful!

I took 18 students for a school trip to Normandy and we stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights. I don't think it is possible to please everyone but I think it's a great place for a school trip and perfect value for money. I have no idea what some students might expect of a school trip but I can assure you it goes beyond school trip standards. Staff was great and really helpful. Some student struggled with the countryside aspects but I think it was a great learning curve, it's important to get out of your comfort zone and embrace the diversity of the world. Highlight of the weekend was the bonfire night, it was a great bonding experience for those students who really cared about it and made an effort. It has a football pitch for students, mine were out there at 7am the first day we were there; others went for a run around in the park. I can only highly recommend it for a school trip. I am already planning another trip there and we have talked about a potential staff vacation as well.

Yes, but only in one room and it's pretty flakey. You're better off using your phone. Phone signal strength is good.

For a school trip how many can sleep in each room?
Answer from SelectChalets

It varies, the rooms differ in size. In the main chateau the rooms tend to be for two and four, with I think a couple of slightly bigger ones. In the Villa Mathilde, the capacity can be bigger.
