We stayed in one of the cottages for a week in late September. The accommodation was very clean and there was a clear strategy for dealing with Covid 19 issues. There is a lovely pool and each cottage was allocated a time each day for private use. The kitchen was very well equipped, with the added bonus of dishwasher and washing machine. There is a supermarket close by in Ilfracombe which is about a 10 minute drive away. We had reasonable wi-fi during our visit. The bedrooms in most of the cottages seem to be on the ground floor and this gives some lovely views from the windows of the living area. We has a small issue as the room above the double room in our cottage (Fisherswood) was underneath the living room of another cottage. Luckily we are early risers so this was not a problem. I especially liked that 2 of the cottages were pet free and with some in the party who are allergic to pet hair, this was brilliant. There is abundant hot water. There are so many place to visit with great walks on the beach and the costal paths.

We chose Smythen farm cottages as they looked an ideal base for a multi-generational family holiday with active children, Grandparents who wanted the option of their own cottage to escape to and the ability to take our dog. We were not disappointed. The new owners have clearly worked hard as both of our cottages were freshly decorated, very clean, and comfortably furnished. The kitchens were very well equipped, and extensive grounds beautifully maintained. We stayed in Sunalways (see pictures) and my in laws in Honeysuckle which is accessed from the courtyard behind the pool.

The games room (pool table, table tennis, air hockey, table football) kept the kids happy. We generally had the swimming pool to ourselves and it was a good temperature. It is open 9am- 6pm week days and 10am-6pm weekends. Access is using your cottage key. Charlotte was very response to messages if we had any queries and an excellent host.

Our only issue was that the donkeys and pony are in the huge dog exercise field so care is needed if you can’t trust your dog. Ours got rather over excited about them! My daughter however, loved her daily visits to Minstrel the Shetland pony. It is well located for Ilfracoombe, Woolacombe and all the area has to offer but set well away from main roads and very peaceful. We hope to go back soon.

What a beautiful place to stay! Views to die for around there!

6 of us stayed in Forest View cottage. Parents, two kids ages 4&6 and grandparents. Enough space for all of us. Kitchen was well equipped, there was also fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. Beds were very comfortable and bedding very decent. Kids loved the bunk beds!

Swimming pool was hit with kids, very warm! They played for hours in it! They very much enjoyed the games room and the play park outside.

There was also a residential cat who provided the daily entertainment to us :) we have seen the donkeys and deers early in the mornings.

All main local attractions are within 10-15min drive, which was great with little inpatient kids.

We stayed with our two children (12 and 9) in Fisherswood cottage and had a wonderful holiday at Smythen Farm. We went with family who were at Sunalways and the configuration of the cottages worked perfectly for us to be able to easily spend time together whilst having our own space.
The cottages are very comfortable and well kitted out and the facilities on site are of excellent quality. We made the most of the swimming pool which we were very lucky to be able to use but Bill and Kathryn had organised slots for every cottage so they could adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.
The games room was also fab for the kids and they had a great time in the evenings there. The younger kids in our party loved the playground and feeding the donkeys.
The two dogs were in their element in the exercise field although not that dogs aren't allowed off lead on the site apart from the field.
The cottages are located in a great position. We enjoyed being near Ilfracombe and room advantage of the big Tesco there. We had a wonderful time on Woolacombe beach which is huge and stunning. Would also recommend the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway and the walk at Heddon Valley.
Smythen Farm was a perfect place to explore North Devon.

What an amazing place! We came for a weeks break and we all had the best time.
The accommodation was immaculate as were the games room and swimming pool.
The kids loved feeding the donkeys and playing in the park despite the weather!
So much to do nearby if you don't mind a short drive. We enjoyed a boat ride, a theme park and some lovely meals in ilfracombe and Woolacombe.
The owners came by to check all OK on arrival and the instructions on how things were set out due to covid were straight forward. It was lovely to have set times for the pool and enjoy as a family alone.
Even the dogs had a lovely little break!
We will be coming back and recommending to others. Thanks Bill and Kathryn!

The location is the biggest selling point, amazing views across countryside to the sea and lovely walks for our dog. Also the swimming pool and facilities available were good.
Sadly this was not extended to the accommodation in Primrose Lane cottage or Parsonsge Cottage as it is marketed. It is very much in need of refurbishment and cannot be described as 'luxury'. The bathroom in particular is clearly very dated with a nasty chipped bath and white utilitarian tiles, a non working extractor fan and a faulty door handle and window fastening. The remaining rooms are serviceable but basic in terms of furnishings and equipment, again not luxury for the price. The location has the wow factor but the standard of accommodation at this particular cottage is not.

We arrived to the gorgeous views across the fields. We stayed at Fisherwood cottage and we were expecting a higher standard of accommodation, after it said on the website it was recently refurbished. It quickly became obvious that the website was very out of date! The cottage is very basic.
The worst part was at 5.30am the first morning we were woken up by people walking above us. We realised that the way the cottages are configured, it wasn’t our lounge above us, but another cottage. Who were very noisy at 5.30 every morning, dragging items across the floor! It wasn’t a very restful holiday.
The swimming pool was brilliant, we had it to ourselves every time and it was very clean. The views and outdoor space is brilliant and we enjoyed sitting out in the evenings. I can see that this was once a beautiful place to stay, but sadly the standard of accommodation hasn’t been kept.

Many thanks for taking the time to write your review. Kathryn and I are so please that you found the the views and pool briliant. I am sorry you found the cottage noisy but this is a very rare occurance. With regards to the decor we decorate before every season . What we would like to say to you is that we would also appriciate it, if you would have let us know when left, that one of your children had used the ceiling light as a swing and ripped the ceiling light of the ceiling and damaged one of the bunk bed runs on the ladder with the lamp shade, which was left on the lamp shade on the bed side table. The resulted in us having to rush about getting the light replaced as the new guests arrived,

I spent a week at Smythen Farm Cottages as part of a detox retreat. While the retreat was very well run, the quality of the venue itself was a real shame - dirty, smelly and really run down. Smythen Farm Cottages are set on a hill overlooking the sea, beautiful views and it's lovely and peaceful but the cottages and communal spaces really need some attention. I didn't see or meet the owners while I was there and some may ask why I didn't seek them out to raise these issues - but when you see the photos you'll understand that the items were not quick fixes and wouldn't have been able to have been addressed during my stay. There's no way the owners could not be aware of the state of their properties unless they never actually go into them which is neglect in itself.  Not to forget that when I arrived the bed was covered in dog hair and one of the people running the retreat, not the owners running the cottages, brought me clean sheets and helped me change them. It could be such a lovely place to stay if the owners would be willing to invest in and upgrade the property as a whole.

Gorgeous location and superb cottages. This is the second time I have stayed at the cottages with my family. Perfect get away! I used to be very local to the area so I no exactly what is about. This area is perfect to get to all the local attractions, yet allows you to escape from the busy areas. Very tranquil with breathe taking views. Would go year after year and the swimming facilities is an extra bonus used every single day

We stayed for a week as a family of 4 in Fisherswood cottage. We had an amazing holiday. The directions were easy to follow, we arrived in the dark after a long journey. The cottage was lovely, warm, well presented, spotlessly clean and cosy. The beds were comfy and the linen good quality. The small complex of cottages is really lovely with amazing views down the valley to the sea. We didn't have any problems but Charlotte was very quick to respond when I messaged her, The weather was not great while we were there, but we still managed to get out and about but were glad to return to our warm cottage. The facilities were brilliant, the pool was just opposite our door and it was really warm and clean, we used it every day. The games room had good use too. The cottages are well placed to explore North Devon and Watermouth castle, which is a family friendly theme park is only 10 minutes away. We also visited Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands. We had the best fish and chips ever at Squires. This was hands down the best value for money holiday we have ever had. We were sad to leave and can't wait to rebook for next week. Thank you for a brilliant time.
