Hotel is clean, staf is accuraat, dinner is expensive and the menu is compact, breakfast is ok. Room with private balcony is advised so you have a splendid view of the lake. Sauna and outdoor pool are fine. Nice stay good location to explore the Lugano lake and surrounding area.
We stayed for 4 nights on a wedding anniversary trip. The drive up the switchback roads to the hotel is "exhilarating" but watch out for cyclists, speedy locals, and the odd bus - take your time. The hotel lobby is clean and bright with a bar area and seating overlooking the lake view. Check-in was fast and efficient. We had booked a garden view room which was lovely until the night-time when there was a horrible noise from the area of the air conditioner which kept us awake much of the night. The staff and the manager were extremely pleasant and helpful and we were moved to a lakeview room which had astonishing views and a balcony with chairs and sun loungers. The only downside of the balcony was the heavy smell of cigarette smoke when your neighbours are heavy smokers and always seem to be on their balcony the same time as you are on yours. The hotel area is peaceful and quiet with lots of birdsong. We had a drink in the bar area and then ate in the restaurant the night we arrived and the meal was lovely and the service excellent. We did not use the spa facilities so can't comment on those. The hotel offers a choice of 4 types of pillow and our latex pillows were brilliant as we have these at home. The bed was very comfortable an the room had a mini-fridge and small kettle. There were bottles of water in the room on arrival although these were not replaced during the stay (you can get from reception if needed). We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others. We do hope to return in future. We did not see any issues with hygiene or the condition of the rooms or facilities that are mentioned in some of the negative reviews. The issue we had with the AC noise was dealt with quickly and efficiently. There are plenty of other options for dining locally and there is a small shop a short walk from the hotel with all of the basics. Car parking was easy.…
On arrival we upgraded to a Panorama Suite (2.40) which was well worth the additional cost despite the fact that the weather was not up to our expectations. The layout is generous and the views spectacular. The restaurant serves good food but after two days we were eager to have a change and chose a restaurant elsewhere (which was a great experience suggested by the concierge). The road up to Cademario and down is quite a challenge especially with locals going at high speed. We appreciated the total calm during the night and the overall sense of hospitality.
We stayed only one night on the way back from short holidays but the stay was a really relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Thank you for the perfect service and the professionality and friendliness of the staff. Compliments for the interesting wine card and I still have the view from the pool in front of my eyes. Thank you, I hope to come back soon.
Very nice spa hotel, friendly and helpful staff, delicious food and excellent service. Perfect for a weekend trip with friends or as a couple. The hotel is up on the hill and the view of the sea is breath-taking. I'll definitely come again. Strongly recommended.
Our friends from Basel came to stay at Kurhaus on 26 Sept. We had dinner on the 27th at the Kurhaus restaurant, and all had a first course and all had the sella di capriolo. There was only 8 to 12 tables occupied, and only 2 waitress, it took 20 minutes to order our drinks. Then another 30 minutes to order our food. The sella di capriolo to 45 after the first course. The presentation of the capriolo was very nice, but only 5 piece of capriolo, and when we ask for the second portion, we were told there is none! As anyone from Ticino would know, the second portion is a given for the temperature of the food. The service was not good, because there was not enough staff and we left hungry and disappointed. Our friends, also stated that the hotel, was disappointing for the cost.
Very bad experience.....only cold water...and im the wellness area is keep distancing not possible. for this amount of money its not possible its a 5 star hotel. The highest rate what i would give is 3/4 stars. Its our last visit in this hotel.
The spa centre, the location, the staff hospitality and the food are high-standard and impeccable. Particularly, the spa centre has a wide range of facilities that can be hardly found in other places. Highly recommended for a vacation to relax with the best services and amenities.
I can't believe we have to review this place without having spent the first night here yet so think about how bad our experience has been (not to mention its a special weekend for us). The lobby is shabby and unkept, unlike their official photos (think of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel- how it sadly deteriorated over time) the spa is a joke- an extremely fast-paced massage with oil so hot we got burnt which was "included" in our Autumn Weekend Package. Their indoor pools are cold (under 30degrees, in spite of advertising 36 (body temp)) and its not possible to enjoy. Another guest was so upset he asked someone to measure the water temperature and instead of using a pool thermometer they cheated with a human laser temperature screener. When we complained they told us they couldnt turn up the heat and that we should leave a review with the front desk. The grand finale was the horrible tasting menu "included" in this outrageously overpriced stay. Dont be fooled by how pretty the dishes look. We complained about 3 out of 4 dishes to the waitress- its as if some trainee chefs each made one dish, we are not sure how it is possible to make food taste this bad. We dont ask for much- we eat everything from Mcdonalds to Michelin star but the cabbage dumpling (still frozen- im an autumn menu) overly salted chicken, and totally unedible dessert with burnt caramel (that was truly burnt and had to be returned to the kitchen) were enough for us to wish we had booked this as a refundable stay. Its as if the chefs didnt taste anything they sent out. Photos of the room damages are included - we also found hair on the spare pillows and the sink overflows. Avoid unless your standards are extra low. We will go to the Locarno spa instead tomorrow and wish we stayed at home instead.…
This is my husbands and mine second time at Kurhaus. First was end of Aug 2020, which was 2 nights and we had a pleasent time, but reception was slow, and the rooms TV did not work and the spa was clearly in need of repair and to pools were very cold. However, we still relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. The best part was the lounge, lounge service and the pianinist and free breakfast in the room, which now sadly no longer included. During our first visit I gave them the benifit of the doubt thinking that with covid etc that repairs or such were impacted and thus slow but pending. However, after going back almost a full year later, the place has fallen into further disrepair. I was not impressed, youd have to be blind or just ignorant to not see it: There is an algea line around all the walls to the indoor pool, there are tiles falling off, even more then last time, there was a crack in the ceiling by the grotto were water poured over two poor people lounging, as it was raining outside at the time, and it apparently got in somehow. One could see water damage and water rings, which leads me to belieive it had been that way for awhile. The turkish bath has large tiles missing and smells of sweat. I do not think they air it out or clean it often. The ice machine by saunas is also very loud and annoying when trying to relax and never seems to turn off. There are pros: the rooms are spacious and beds are comfy, the Dot products are very nice, and though the food is good, it is overpriced for its portions so we ate out most evenings. The waiting staff are pleasent, but front of staff seem clueless. For example: The pool bar is stated to be open everday from 12 -19, however, while we were there, they decided to not open the pool bar at all due to rain predicted late that evening, which would have been fine, but we were waiting for over an hour with 12 other people around the the area expecting it to open for lunch which never happened. When I went to the front desk they did not know it was not even open and went to ask, and then told me that due to weather which was only cloudy that it woulds not open that day, but no one bothered to inform the guests, which I think would have been the curtious thing to do. It was not until I suggested a sign or something to inform people that the front of staff even considered it. All cons aside, the spa area is lovely and the spa sercives are very enjoyable. I think with a thorough cleaning, repair of existing areas and improvment to front of staff this hotel would be worth the price, till then, I cannot recommend it.…
