Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went with family for a meal and had sausages and mash. For £14.50 had three sausages a small blob of mash and some peas swimming in gravy. The sausages were ok but the advertised creamy mash was not creamy, slightly lumpy and lukewarm warm. The peas were hard. The meal was distinctly average and not an experience that would make me rush back. The waiting staff were attentive when we first got there but were very slow to clear the table when we had finished our main course and we were not even offered a dessert. Wouldn’t rush back.

Fabulous hotel. Gabriela catered for our December wedding. Huge attention to detail and couldn't have been more helpful and supportive the night before our special day. She certainly went the extra mile. On the day she and her staff were amazing, catered to our every need. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. Can't thank Gabriela and her team enough for making our day so special. Highly recommend. Thank you to all. We will never never forget our special day and how you went above and beyond to make it so. Huge thanks from the bottom of our hearts.

A simply lovely hotel, restaurant & food with fantastic staff who all together make the total experience so very friendly/welcoming. The (wedding) function room was beautifully decorated in keeping with the historic hotel feeling + the added festive twinkly lights subtle ambience. Can’t wait to come back!

Had Christmas lunch this year at the Crown with my parents - an excellent experience all around. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere and decor were spot on. Gabriele and the team went all out to make it a very special occasion. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyable stay at the Crown. The staff are amazing, friendly and obliging. The rooms are great and reasonably priced. Plenty of room, clean, well serviced and quiet. The food was very good and we were well waited upon by the staff. The atmosphere was relaxed and the locals seemed to use the hotel as a meeting place which always bodes well for the ambience. The local restaurants and eating places are both near and very nice as well. It's a good place to visit a lot of different areas in Suffolk, either further inland or towards the North Sea. I would recommend it highly.

We held our Ruby Wedding Party in the The Stables function room at The Crown. We and our 75 guests were extremely well looked after by its amazing staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. There was ample room for a band and seating too. Thank you Gabriella for managing our celebration and thank you to all your fantastic staff for ensuring that we enjoyed our special day.

The Crown is a quintessential British market town pub. Everything is to a very high standard with attention to detail and care taken in every activity. A brilliant location for a pint in either the cosy bar or lounge areas in front of the traditional fireplaces. In the warmer months there is the courtyard allowing you to bask in the sunshine while enjoying your drink. The Crown excels with food too. Blending a traditional pub menu with a wide variety of desirable dishes. Locally sourced ingredients and the attention to detail the team take make for an enjoyable meal time after time. After enjoying a drink and a meal you don’t even have to make it home. The rooms offered are delightfully comfortable, many with stunning views across the market square which include glimpses of both the church and college. They make for a great start to the day. Last but certainly not least are their functions. The team at The Crown are the ultimate party planners for people that want to host a party but are concerned about the time, effort and stress it might involve. Their function room looks like it’s been lifted straight from a fairy tale and throughout the planning process the team are always generous with their time, experience and good ideas. Our recent event was all the better for leaning on their experience and their care though out the evening event made for a magical, memorable experience. We were, and continue to be, incredibly well looked after by all at The Crown and wish it continued success so more can enjoy a visit.

Only stayed one night but will be back. Great old building with great bar/restaurant space downstairs (with seating in courtyard) and lovely bedrooms upstairs. Location is right on market square - so ideal. There is some limited parking at back. The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere, with the standard set by very hospitable and helpful staff but also local people who seem to be regulars and are very pleasant and friendly. Had a family evening meal which everyone enjoyed. Fairly basic 'pub restaurant' menu but cooked well with good ingredients. Breakfast was excellent with quite a good range of options. All in all a lovely stay which ideally would have been a couple of days longer.

I rented their function room for our pre-wedding weekend drinks and honestly, Gabriela and the team were just the best. The organisation process was super easy and we knew that we really didn't have to worry about anything on the day. Gabriela made a point to show us pictures of previous events, explained to us all our options, and was really easy to contact when we had questions. We got a lot of compliments from our guests on the venue ( really beautiful room, decorated with fairy lights and flowers which is included in the price - if you do want to do your own thing, you can but honestly, it doesn't need it), on the food and on just how lovely the staff were. Would really recommend going with the Crown Hotel for any events you might be considering in the future - you'll be in good hands. Thank you so much Gabriela - and thank you for looking after us and making sure that we ate properly!!
