We celebrated my birthday here with a large number of friends. Venue was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Large menu and the good all came out together and was hot and delicious. Lounge bar is cosy and comfortable. Great for socialising
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable and hospitable hotel. Our room was well presented and catered for our every need. The hotel reception staff provided a friendly and helpful service recommending local places to eat for dinner. The bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious providing a great shower. The location was suitable with walking access to the local beach for those that wish to and easy access to services in Thurso and of course the famous John O Groats most northerly landmark sign. We would most definitely recommend to others. If it was during the summer season we would have also accessed a wildlife cruise which is commutable from this hotel also. The inclusive breakfast was delicious with an extensive menu offering. Parking was convenient also. Many thanks for our overnight stay.…
Excellent stay, motivated staff, very professional… very good food, great beers and room lovely. Well recommended. Good parking faculties, location superb, like literally on the beach, very pretty area. And there’s a pool table, X box and all that mullarkey.
Visited for an evening meal at the bar while staying at the nearby campsite.. Friendly staff an excellent meal. Had ‘catch of the day’ pan fried salmon - delicious. Came to just over £33 for the two of us.
Stopped off for an evening meal after visiting Dunnet's Head. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the dining room was clean and really nicely decorated. The food was very tasty and so was the wine!
The interior of this roperty reminded me of an inn style hotel you would in many parts of the UK it was clean and warm but clinical with no real character to it and you could be almost anywhere if it was nit for the few paintings produced by a local artist There is ample parking and a bar and restaurant which is open to the public. Sadly It won't take dogs. The plus side is this place is adjoining the local gin Distillery which does tours and has a beautiful gift shop. Close by is the Castle of Mey which is open to the public in the summer. John O Groats is about 10 to 15 minutes drive away and Thurso is about the same in the other direction. Locally there are excellent beaches and caravan sites. Castletown has a Heritage Centre but this was closed for the Winter too.
We really rate this hotel. Easily located on the road to Thurso, next door to Rock Rose Gin Distillery. Had a very warm welcome upon arrival. Everything was clearly explained about meal times, options for breakfast and were then personally shown to our room. We stayed in Farquhar and we’re pleasantly surprised. It was very well appointed, with plenty of storage wardrobes and a large bed. It had dual aspect, with Stunning views towards Dunnet Sands. Shower was also huge and the bathroom well decorated. We went down for a beer before dinner and there’s a decent selection of drinks for anyone. For dinner we ordered Cullen Skink, Stuffed mushrooms and I plonked for a juicy steak and my wife had salmon. The portions were generous. The food was tasty and well cooked. Bed was comfortable if a little hard for our own tastes. Breakfast was equally tasty … I plonked for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and my wife the full English. Again, decent portions and very tasty. Really recommend this hotel. Was good value far as we were concerned and would definitely stay again, if and when in the area. All the staff were great, without exception.…
We stayed here for one night and wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in the Farquhar room which was fab, it was very spacious and had a lovely walk in shower. Everything was clean and there was a thoughtful selection of tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc in the room. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. We dined in the hotel for dinner and breakfast and we’re very impressed by the quality of food. Having stayed at 3 different hotels in the week this was our favourite and also the cheapest. We were very impressed by the value for money, especially for a premium king room. The location is great, super easy to get to by car and lots to see without needing to travel far, we definitely recommend sunrise and/or sunset at Dunnet head which is a short drive away. We would 100% stay again and recommend to friends/family.…
We only stayed one night which was a big mistake as there is plenty to see and do in the area. The hotel is an ideal base for such a visit. It is very warm clean and welcoming. The rooms appear to have been redecorated recently. Our welcome was warm and friendly on what turned out to be the worst day for weather in our 2 week trip. Breakfast of smoked haddock and scrambled egg was just great. We'd like to go back.
Just back from a super 4 night stay at this lovely hotel, we've driven past it many times and have to say how impressed we've been by our stay. Well appointed rooms, clearly recent upgrades have taken place..hooks and places to put stuff in the en-suite yeah! Room nicely sized (we went for a superior one) we had a sofa in ours...would have been nice to have a sea view but hey looking east and seeing sunrise was super. Reasonable breakfast selection, due to covid 19 it's pre order but that's ok. Would have been good to have a slice of lemon on the local haddock and poached egg and the kippers could have done with "something" have to say thou the poached eggs each morning were perfect. Also had dinner on 3 nights and Afternoon Tea with friends on the Sunday...plenty of food and again good choices. Will stay here again on another trip to area, it's been a super base that enabled us to explore.…
