Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So easy going. Arrived, parked car, got key to room (Wingfield room), unpacked, had an excellent lunch with lovely service, explored Bungay, changed, had an evening meal (again excellent with excellent service), a good night's sleep and then breakfast (spot on with the same fantastic service) and then set off home - all for £140 for the room and breakfast, about £30 for lunch and £70 for the evening meal. Wow!

We have stayed here before as we have family who live in Bungay and this stay as before did not disappoint. Parking was easy as was check in - keys in a key safe by the door. Our room was lovely overlooking the garden and had everything we wanted including a basket of snacks - a lovely touch. Bed was comfy and our only issue was that the loo worked on a macerator system which was a bit noisy especially at night but not a huge issue. Breakfast was fantastic and I went for the Cambodian breakfast one morning . Unusual and very filling. Pub itself was lovely and real ales to die for. Will we be back? Definitely

Very friendly and welcoming. Comfortable room with excellent full English breakfast. Note alternative breakfasts included Thai. Really enjoyed Thai dinner on first night. Be aware the pub/restaurant does not open on Tuesdays. Enjoyed a drink in the lovely beer garden.

I stayed here with a friend, as we were attending Nicola Slattery's art course nearby. The staff and owners were lovely and really went the extra mile. They were friendly, warm, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The room was comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and there were lots of thoughtful snacks and bottled water left in the room. I recommend eating at the restaurant - the Cambodian dinner was very good. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and good quality. The courtyard garden is a sun trap and we were lucky to have a sunny afternoon, so we enjoyed a beer in the garden. There was live, Irish music on one evening - a great atmosphere. However, the owners really made our stay. They really showed an interest, chatted about the art work on the walls and made us feel like special guests. We will definitely be back!

How to describe a place that is a bit off the normal path, but so worth a visit? Well, to start, the most pleasant innkeeper, Stuart, made us feel comfortable and welcome from the moment we walked in. After many hours of travel, we were welcomed to a quirky but comfortable room above the restaurant/pub. This is the real UK. The building is several hundred years old, but beds were comfortable, water was warm, and the view of the village street was charming. We were in town to run the Bungay Black Dog 1/2 marathon, and we were made to feel like part of everything. Stuart gave us valuable suggestions about pubs to visit and places of interest around the town. Everyone we met was kind, curious, and funny. Oh, if only every place could be like Bungay Village, and the Castle Inn. The food in the pub was good, and the staff worked hard to get things just right, and I really appreciated that. I could write so much more, but suffice to say, very worth visiting. If you are a walker, runner, or cyclist, it’s a perfect base or stop…we miss this place already! Thank you, Castle Inn, and lovely staff!

Hotel was surprisingly good. No fuss easy check in and getting keys from key safe. The rooms were spotless with everything you needed like tea coffee chocolate bottles fresh water biscuits . With the added treats of Kitkat Blue Ribband Toffeecrisp and Yorkie bars! Hairdryer Iron Ironing board and full size toiletries in the bathroom with power shower. Added bonus in the heat was tall fan with timer. Downside was breakfast. Not yet organised with cereal milk fruit in one room and seating in another. Porridge was not cooked enough and made with cream. Not to my taste. Toast was barely toasted and cold. And full English the mushrooms tasted of garlic and bacon very thick. Other members of party enjoyed it but not to our taste. Plus side orange juice was fresh. Apart from above the staff was super helpful and friendly. Hotel in centre of town so would return if visiting area again

Very very clean facilities, super comfortable bed, quiet back room. An old inn, you could absorb the history from the uneven floors and quirkiness of the room. Lots of snacks, beverage making facilities, large necessary fan ( scorching weather), tv. Tastefully decorated and the breakfast next day to die for.

We stayed a night at the Castle Inn, Bungay which has adapted its accommodation offer to be covid safe. We felt very safe and well looked after with excellent service and a lovely room. It was great value for money and we'd recommend it. Its on lovely Earsham Street with its independent shops - again all covid safe. Breakfast was a highlight - with a wonderful range on offer.

I Stayed here initially for a couple of days but ended up staying for the full week whilst working away and it was a good location that did it for me. It was a very comfortable room with settee so i could relax without sitting at a table, unfortunately there was no restaurant in use but with the local food sources it was just fine. I was out early so didn't bother with the breakfast and if i am in the area again i would rebook with no hesitation.
