The hotel is pretty much all of Glestch. Built in 1850 when the glacier was at its doorstep. Glacier has retreated to high crevices no longer visible from Gleatsch. Large imposing, building, only partially opened. Spartan room, shower and toilets were 50 meters from my room. I did enjoy my stay. Good breakfast and a good four course dinner. Nice... More

The place needs some serious remodelling done but what's lacks in modern amenities such as Wifi is made up by a particular charme. It is like to go back to the end of 19th century beginning of 20th one. The room are spacious and sleeping conditions quite good. After a day long riding my motorcycle in the alps it was... More

Our room was on the third floor and it was as dark as a cave up there. The shower room and toilets were newer and very clean. The room was spotless but was like taking a leap back in time. Not 10-20 years, closer to 50! No Wifi except in the restaurant area and even then it was spotty. The... More

In July 1971 I was stopping in Gletsch to see two Canadian friends of mine that were working here. Fortunately, one had returned home & I took over his job at the little kiyosk on the terrace. This was the most glorious summer for me; living in a beautiful room in the adjacent tourist hotel with down duvet, pillows and... More

Also probably the only restaurant in Gletsch. Pleasant place to have lunch or a quick snack when riding the Furka train or driving in the area. Prices slightly high, but not at all bad. Quality of all items we have tried was good, nice dining area both outside (great view of the glacier) and inside.

You feel the history, but don't expect that in the past everything was better. Very friendly staff and nothing wrong with the beds. It gives the feeling of what traveling must have been like in the past.

We stayed in the hotel "Glacier du Rhone" in Gletsch in August 2009 with 3 adults and 2 children (6 and 11). We booked on the phone, and were given three adjacent rooms (no connecting door) for 120 CHF for a double and 70 CHF for a single. Toilets and showers were in the corridor. And we had a GREAT... The Hotel Glacier du Rhone at Gletsch was one of the first hotels built in Switzerland as a reaction to the growing vogue in a touristic 'Tour de Suisse'. It is Grand Hotel which was, when built in the 1850s, situated a the foot of the Rhone Glacier. Nowadays the Glacier is almost out of view, and has receded quite... More
