We spent a day (and a night) at the Amakhala Lodge. We had read about the lodge on Tripadvisor and had seen pictures of it and I expected it to be a great experience, but everything was so much more than we expected. After three long flights and a drive it was like coming to a peace of heaven when...

Two years ago we stayed at a Sharmari game lodge, next door, which is a bigger private reserve (17,000 vs 7,000) but we enjoyed this just as much. Great service, clean rooms, good food, good guides, many animals. Not as much driving but same routine of morning (5:30) and afternoon (4:00) for three hours with a break for coffee or...

What an amazing place to experience safari - the Amakhala Safari Lodge is pure luxury! Our "room" (lodge) had it's own private plunge pool, a bubble bath and shower with a view of the oustide, under floor heating. The experience was so complete, with two safari drives a day. We were served freshly baked muffins in the morning before our...

We had been a bit unsure about this part of our trip to South Africa. We were recommended Amakahala and Safari Lodge by a friend who had previously visited. Even before we arrived we had very positive help from the direct bookings team. They helped us out on a couple of questions we had and suggested which "lodge room" would...

We stayed for two nights in Room 2, which overlooked the water hole and was possibly the best location. The accommodation, built in a traditional style, was spacious and quirky - with an outside shower that was great fun. From our verandah (with its own plunge-pool) we had an excellent view of animals coming to the water hole. The meals...

We stayed for a 2 night trip in the Safari Lodge during a cold weather period. The Chalets are not really recommendable when it is cold, it is too much of a tent. The lodge itself is OK, but a bit disapointing, more a 3 star character. The food we had was also quite average compared with other lodges. The...

We stayed for 3 nights with 4 boys age 8-12. Our boys love wildlife and are used to traveling to "out in the wilderness" places but we did not expect to find such a lovely comfortable accommodation in such remote place. The lodges only accommodates around 20 people so whole place feels very homely, safe and familiar after day 1....

We arrived just before lunch to drop our bags off in the room then sat down to homemade chicken and sweetcorn pasties - amazing! Then off on our first 4hr drive with sundowner - I know they can not guaranteed sighting of the Animals, Big 5, but we saw more than expected on out first drive. Suri our Ranger on...

Firstly we received a greeting upon arrival was pleasant which included warm face and hand towels and a welcome drink. The lady at reception (not sure of name) was informative about everything, she was kind and helpful. She showed us to our lodge which was number 2 (quite close to the main reception area so didn't have to walk much)....

The staff understood we were there to go on a safari and did all we could to get the best from our stay. Early morning starts but so worth it. Rangers were determined that we would see as much as was possible.
