The Crowne Plaza Reading East provides guests with a welcoming atmosphere, accentuated by modern decor and the occasional live music, creating a pleasant ambiance. While the amenities, including a spa and multiple dining options, generally meet guests' expectations, there is noted room for enhancement, particularly in spa services. The hotel's location is widely appreciated for its convenience and complimentary parking.
Opinions on value vary, with some guests finding great deals and others pointing out overpriced services. The hotel's cleanliness is consistently commended, as are the clean and comfortable rooms, although some guests have had issues with housekeeping. The service is often described as attentive, despite occasional lapses in responsiveness.

A great massage in the Spa by Lucian. Enjoyed a nice afternoon tea too. The location is easy to get to by car on the A329 between M4 motorway Junction 10 and Reading. The hotel is very nice and the staff were very friendly.

We enjoyed a great 2 night stay, 1 booked part of a Legoland Package, the 2nd booked direct with the hotel the day booked on the day of arrival. A quick email was followed by an immediate reply to confirm the bookings were joined.
An excellent stay from start to finish. Staff were very helpful and professional explaining all the current Covid precautions, with lots of cleaning evident throughout the hotel and staff is face masks.
Our little one was brought cookies and milk just before bed time which was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good on both days, and the evening meal in the bar was fantastic, a little pricey but food quality and taste were excellent so I didn't mind paying.
Swimming pool was great after a day of Legoland.
The room was very modern and well equipped, fridge, safe, tea making facilities etc. Room was cleaned to a very high standard, the maid noticed we had used the tea bags on our 1st night, and provided double the amount for our 2nd night.
If we are in the area again we will certainly return.

I booked the hotel back in December, due to restrictions I booked the earliest date I could once opened. Cleanliness was great, antibacterial stations spotted around which made me feel safe and everyone wearing masks. The staff were fabulous, always friendly and rushed off their feet, everyone chipping in to help out each other was fantastic to see. Great team work amongst the staff, felt sorry for them as I see on the news that lots of people have left hospitality to work elsewhere leaving the hotel to run on skeleton crew. This should not put you off, the staff try their best for you and are always happy to help. You have to wait a little bit longer than usual but until the industry is back on its feet properly that's just how it is. I can not wait to stay again, love the poolside service its my favourite thing about the hotel. Plus the staff are just fantastic and help make a pleasant stay. I do recomend this place to anyone and everyone that has patience and can appreciate hard workers doing their very best.

Too crowded, the hotel was fully booked and it was really hard to enjoy the swimming pool with so many people. I understand why other hotels use a bookable slot system to limit the number of people in the pool.
We also had an issue with the bathroom. The only option available when we booked was a "walk in" shower.. I was expecting an easier access to the bath or shower cubicle but definitely not a full-on hospital style bathroom, with plastic curtains, no bath or shower base plate and hospital style ceramic floor tiles. We called immediately reception from our room and had no response. We then went back downstairs and were asked by a lady in a quite rude fashion to rejoin to queue with all the people who has just arrived to check-in, even though we tried to explain that we had already checked in and queued just a few minutes earlier. Another person in reception, after the second queue, was much nicer and changed the room for us. The cost of dinner and breakfast are not, in my view, value for money (£30pp for dinner and £15pp for breakfast). There is a Costa cafe 2 min by car (5 min walking distance) which is by far cheaper and there are also plenty of restaurants within few minutes by car although not within walking distance, especially if it's cold and late at night.
The hotel parking has limited capacity and when fully booked you will be redirected to the "overflow" car park, basically an unsecured car park of the retail centre on the opposite side of the road.
Great rooms, very recently refurbished, just avoid the "walk-in" showers...

I stayed at this hotel for about 2 weeks on a business trip. First impressions were great. Nice hotel, modern and fairly good size. One of the better Holiday Inn I have stayed at. The lobby area is well made which open into the bar followed by the restaurant. The check in took longer than I expected. The room that I stayed was quite nice but not very big. For a single occupant it was a descent size. The bathroom is not very big either. Bed was good size for one person, a TV and work area. They provide a mini refrigerator and kettle with supplies. The breakfast was a nice spread and you can also make an order from the daily menu. Overall the food was quite good when I had lunch or dinner at the hotel. I tried a few dishes and they were all quite tasty. So full marks to that. The hotel is walking distance to the bus and train station which is was convenient. However there is nothing else to do within a walking distance. The hotel is surrounded by offices. There is a WH Smith store just across the hotel so that was quite helpful when needed. The hotel has a nice pool and spa and also a gym. The staff overall was alright but I have mixed reviews about the customer service and felt it could have been better on some occasions. E.g. I asked for a small bottle of water while checking out as the WH Smith was closed. I was told it must be purchased and they could not give me one. Well after staying for about two weeks that came as a surprise. I thought it was a small request and there should not be a price tag for everything, specially something like a small bottle of water. Overall satisfied with the stay.

We arrived at the hotel and within 10 minutes of arriving a staff member brought a bottle of Prosecco with two glasses to our room and handed them to us.
We decided to put this in the fridge rather than enjoy it straight away.
We were in our room for around an hour un-packing before we went to enjoy the spa. When we returned somebody had been in our room and moved things around and taken the bottle of Prosecco. We called reception in a panic and we were informed this was a member of staff because they had given it to us by accident! I said they should have tried to contact us or left a note on the door for us to get in touch with them upon our return, not gone in our room and looked around and just taken the bottle!
The management team had no care, I had to write to the general manager myself to launch a complaint and the response I got was sorry for the confusion but basically we don’t really care because you didn’t pay for the bottle.
Definitely wouldn’t return to this hotel they don’t give a s**t about their guests and we felt comfortable for the rest of the day knowing that someone could come in our room and snoop around any time

This was my first stay at this former Holiday Inn property and it would certainly not be my first choice if returning to the area again.
Whilst the rooms have been smartened up in terms of decor, they still suffer from poor air con / ventilation and dreadfully dark and dreary corridors. Breakfast was disappointing with a number of menu items unavailable and the team on duty were clearly struggling to cope with clearing tables and replenishing the buffet.
In general terms, I’d describe the staff as disinterested and unhelpful. I had a number of issues with my booking and found the level of telephone assistance offered by the hotel in resolving these to be woefully inadequate and at times borderline rude and disrespectful. The service at check in was similarly brusque and the breakfast staff just couldn’t be bothered to help. When I requested a table in the upper level seating area to be away from other guests, the response of the breakfast supervisor was “If you can find a clean table then help yourself”.
Crowne Plaza is meant to offer an elevated experience compared with the hotel’s former branding. Personally, I’ve enjoyed better service at IHGs budget chains than I did on. Y stay this property.

Response from Christina B, Owner at Crowne Plaza Reading East, An IHG hotel
Responded 17 Jul 2022
Dear Johnnyboyyork Thank you very much for choosing Crowne Plaza Reading East for your first stay following our complete transformation of our hotel & spa in 2021. I am sorry to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations, for which I would like to offer my apologies. I am pleased you liked the decor and standards within our brand new rooms. By way of information, all rooms were entirely stripped and redone as part of the rebranding to Crowne Plaza , with bespoke 100% wool Axminster carpet, brand new Kingsize beds and luxury bedding , new bedroom furniture and joinery, state of art Samsung HDD 50" flat screen with Chromecast, and new luxury curtains, cushions and throws as well as everything else in the room too . I do appreciate that interior design standards and choices are entirely a matter of personal taste , but feel somewhat surprised at your comments about the new corridors considering you only spend about 10 seconds walking down them to get to/ from your room . It is unfortunate you did not ask a member of our team to assist you with the operation of the air conditioning in your room, as they would have been pleased to do so had you asked. I would like to assure you that your feedback has been discussed with the food & beverage team who do find it challenging to deal with Sunday morning breakfast service between 10.00 - 11.00, when around 250 guests all arrive for their late Sunday breakfast at the same time. This is a challenge most busy hotels worldwide face as I am sure you will appreciate. Thank you once again for your feedback Regards Hotel Management

Spotlessly clean, easy to get to with a genuine warm welcome from the super organised reception.
Comfortable stylish clean rooms, tea making facilities with a fridge and large tv
Breakfast - kind helpful staff with a hot and cold buffet selection, which really was faultless.
Spa - again a lovely welcome from staff into their clean lovely facilities - all the usual options there .
Thank you to the team you must be proud of your hotel, definitely would recommend.

Just returned from a 2 day stay at yhe hotel, which is very clean, spacious and modern and you get free WiFi throughout your stay. The staff were polite and helpful. You are charged £100 on arrival, as a holding payment, for any extras you purchase during your stay. I purchased breakfast on arrival at the discounted price of £14.50 pp, in the restaurant it's apparently £18.50 pp. The buffet breakfast was OK but a bit expensive for a standard fry up, cereal, toast, fruit and/or tea and coffee. The room was on the small side but clean, with a modern bathroom, Freeview TV, mini fridge (with 2 bottles of water) iron/ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. The bed is a queen size, too small for us (use to a super king) the pillows were small, half the size of normal ones (weird) and quite a hard mattress. We visited the hotel for a Spa weekend, the facilities were OK, indoor pool, well equipped gym, steam room (hot) and sauna (nice temperature) but no jacuzzi, which i was hoping for! There are not enough beds around the pool area for the amount of people using the space, with people having to sit on chairs until beds became available. We had a 25 minute couples massage, which was nice - wish it was for longer. Robes and towels are provided but not flip flops, you must wear your own. The downside for me was that the hotel is outside of Reading on an industrial estate called Winnersh Triangle, it takes about 15-20 minutes in a car to get to the city centre, which is a very lively and multicultural place. The hotel can call you a taxi into town at the cost of approximately £16, an Uber back is roughly £12. It's mostly motorway into Reading, no buses and definitely no walking. If you choose to stay at the hotel for the duration of your stay, then you'll be fine, but we wanted to venture out and visit the restaurants and bars at the Oracle (shopping centre) which became costly in taxis. There is a WH Smiths (only store) opposite the hotel but it wasn't open during our visit. I think the other buildings were offices, again none were open.
Overall, the hotel and Spa were OK. The location was not great.

Crowne Plaza Reading East
Being frequent visitors to this hotel over the last few years and having a good experience during those visits, since the hotel has been rebranded to a ''crowne plaza'' it seems to have declined very badly. I know it has been updated, but how they can justify such huge price rises for the rooms is beyond me, are they just ripping off their customers just as many other hotels are during this covid crisis. How can the same room from a month previously suddenly have a £60 plus increase ?. The food is poor being served either lukewarm or cold, hot drinks are always cold, there is a long wait to be served. There are signs up asking visitors to wear masks, but people are not wearing them, staff included.. There were guests using the dinning room dressed in bath robes which i feel is wrong, you don't want to see somebody half dressed while eating a meal. At this moment in time i feel that i will never use this hotel again as it seems to have become a hotel that is overpriced and lacking in good management and fully trained staff.

Responded 3 Sept 2021
Dear G3512TQ Grahams Thank you very much for choosing Crowne Plaza Reading East Hotel & Spa for your stay during Reading Festival, and for your repeat custom at our hotel which is appreciated. I am sorry that you did not quite enjoy your most recent stay with us following the complete transformation of the entire hotel after a a multi million pound upgrading of the hotel which was only just completed. I note your stay with us coincided with the Reading Festival when rates in all local hotels are higher than usual. You will find that the rates across other dates still provide amazing value, and particularly for a brand new hotel. We agree with you that spa guests should not be walking in the restaurant with their bathrobes on, and you will have noted that they were asked to leave as this is contrary to our hotel policy and is also mentioned in our directory of services . With regard to the wearing of face masks, as you will appreciate this is no longer a legal requirement, so whilst we encourage guests and staff to do so, it remains a personal decision. Thank you once again for your constructive feedback; please do not hesitate to contact us again if we can be of further assistance. Kind regards, Hotel Management

The staff are friendly and you just wait to be shown to a table no wait
Not that we noticed. The lounge area was quiet and comfortable with a bar and snacks available to order. There are conference facilities so, it is possible, there may be additional lounge facilities there.
