Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had booked a stay, recieved no communication yet had the booking manually accepted by the owners. Turned up and no one was there. Found out through locals they had gone into bankruptcy in February!? 6 months prior! STAY AWAY, SCAMMERS.

Sent an email using details on their website re availability, received no reply. No answer on the listed phone number either. Emailed them through their official Facebook page, they saw the email and didn't bother to respond. Sent another email on Facebook re availability, once again, seen but not bothered to respond. I give up. This used to be a lovely hotel that we visited every year until bought by new management. Such a shame, I won't be giving you my business until new management take over who actually want their business to prosper..

Booked on a discount offer which included a welcome drink in the evening. Before our visit, we realised that the swimming pool was temporarily out of action, so decided to enquire about bringing or dog with us. The staff were very happy to help. We were expecting a lower quality room for guests with pets as is quite often the case, but we were pleased to discover that the room was well decorated with modern fittings and furnishings. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we were able to bring our dog with us when eating in the music room. The food was excellent with the chef being very obliging about the menu. He even brought our dog tidbits from the kitchen; he was treated like a star guest! Lovely grounds to walk around with well signposted footpaths in the local area too, with beautiful countryside to explore. Couldn't rate the staff and quality of food more highly. A very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Two nights here on a discount offer was really enjoyable. Yes OK the hotel might be a tad tired but it’s location and the attitude of the staff more than made up for the odd furnishing issue. Set in it’s own extensive grounds with plenty of space to wander, with streams running through the grounds it made a great dog friendly stay. The staff were, without exception, helpful, friendly and efficient and especial mention must be made of the chef who went out of his way to make sure that my gluten-intolerant wife was superbly accommodated. In easy reach of Monmouth, Lydney and Chepstow it really was a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days, despite the inclement weather.

Don't be put off by the negative reviews. I booked this overnight stay with main course dinner plus welcome drink as a post new year treat for me and my fiancee and what a treat it turned out to be. This is a period building so don't book if you are hoping for a stay with bland modern surroundings. The building is truly amazing with grounds complimenting it, there is a lovely stream which runs right alongside it. Ok small areas of the building could do with a bit of TLC but most properties over a 100 years old will always need this. When we arrived we were greeted by Hanna who was very helpful and gave us information about the history of the building. Inside it was very warm with a lovely open fire burning in the lounge/sitting room. The chef Andrew cooked one of the best steak dinners we have ever had and made sure everything was cooked to our liking, I'm sure if you are vegan or vegetarian the standard and service would be the same. The breakfast in the morning was as good as the steak dinner the previous night. A very knowledgeable helpful man and fantastic chef. Thank you Andrew. Would we return? we are just waiting to get our work off duty days for February or March and then we will be returning very soon.

Having seen some less favorable reviews, I was a little concerned as to what we would find at Dean Valley Manor. I need not have worried! We had a lovely stay in this beautiful place. We were looked after so well by all the staff from the moment we walked through the door. Nothing was too much trouble. The building was warm and spotless throughout despite the dreadful weather outside though would profit from a bit of "refreshing" but please not modernizing! Our room was comfortable with a good en suite and plenty of hot water though you had to run the hot tap for a while to get it! We slept well enjoying the peace and quiet. The food was so good. Andrew, the chef, was excellent and took great care to provide what we wanted. One of our friends is gluten free and lactose intolerant and Andrew spoke with her laid then on special food for her for the evening meal and also breakfast. He was very sociable and made sure we had everything we wanted. The cabins outside looked very good for a family wanting to stay as a group but it was a shame that the lovely looking swimming pool was out of action - hence four stars rather than five. Also Internet only available near reception. We will certainly return when we can.

We have really enjoyed our stay here. The lodge is perfect for a family visit, modern, comfortable and clean. The main house is magical. Much of the original neo-gothic interior has been well preserved (the house dates back to the 1830s). The open fire, wood carvings and stained glass windows are charming and make it feel like you're stepping back in time. There are also grounds to explore and a swimming pool, that whilst not currently open, looks promising. I really hope we get to visit again some time soon.

First impressions were pleasing when arriving at Dean Valley Manor. Plenty of parking and welcomed by Hannah at the front desk. The building is lovely with lots of traditional / period features and plenty of character around the house. Our ‘Classic’ room was fairly basic but had everything we needed for our stay. Tea and coffee, free view television, shower and bath facilities. The one downfall of our stay (hence the reason for 4 stars rather than 5) was the lack of hot water for bath and showers. A cold shower was braved in the evening but after -3 during the night I couldn’t bring myself to have a cold shower the next morning 🥶. As part of the deal of our stay, we had a welcome drink each (wine and beer), a main evening meal each (Sirloin steak and beer battered fish and chips) and accommodation. For the price of £79, it seemed very reasonable. Especially after chef ‘Andrew’ tailored our evening meal upon request with ‘off menu’ options including a generous portion of goats cheese on a tart, local beer batter for the fish and onion rings, brandy glazed peppercorn sauce for a very nicely cooked sirloin and a medley of desserts as a sharer. Andrew clearly has a wealth of experience and enjoys socialising with guests. He also has a passion for cooking and happy to design dishes specific to guest request. Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely setting. Do not expect good mobile reception or strong WiFi signal but if you are looking for a quiet escape with good hospitality and high quality food in generous portion size, I highly recommend the Manor House.

Great quiet place out the way of the hustle and bustle. A real quirky period set property with beautiful surroundings The staff was really polite and helpful And Andrew the chef was the highlight of our stay he greeted us before the evening meal and went through the menu all explained thoroughly and went off menu to cater for our needs. And wow the food was DELICIOUS. The place is in need of upgrade in places but i think its due to the lack of people staying. I'd recommend if you want to just relax But i'd highly recommend for a spectacular meal.
