We had the most peaceful and simple 3 days. The hosts (both Sunder and Shyam) are extremely accommodating and generous people. Here, we found the much needed detachment from urban life. The property is beautiful, facilities are basic but clean and appropriate, the village is perfect for a stroll or five. Forrest walks will take up most part of your...

Idyllic haven is sleepy homestay tucked away in the lush greens of the binsar reserve ideal for those travellers seeking to get away from the hustle bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and serenity of the forest. Gaunap village is a 3km downhill trek through the binsar reserve and one can enjoy the sights and sounds of the...

Hi Aditi, glad that you and A enjoyed your stay at Idyllic Haven. Thanks for mentioning an important tip - one should reach the village before sundown, it's dangerous to do the walk from Binsar to Gaunap at night. This implies that guests should try and reach Binsar TRH by 4 PM. Feel sorry for A who fell multiple times...

Who would not like to move away from the deafning noises of vehicles and from a highly polluted air in the Millenial city. Same was the case with us and thus decided to embark on a journey away from these. We decided to visit Binsar and in the process of finding a cheap and nice hotel came across Idyllic Heaven...

My travel in off season was a completely different experience. Actually its never off for travellers. Place like this is always inviting. Right from the trek from TRH Binsar to Gaunap (rustic 3 km-easy trek), location (jungle), path (visible+ invisible at times), rooms (specially wash room), food (organic), host (brothers), cook (aunty), ambience (village type), night (heavily loaded with starts-...

We emabarked on a trek to Uttarakhand and stopped for two days in this rustic little getaway called ‘Idyllic haven’ in Gaunap village. The little village which houses just nine families and untouched by electricity or technology totally bowled me over! And idyllic haven, a homestay tucked in the mountains and surrounded by the forest reserve amazed me no less!...

Glad you liked the stay at Gaunap and the trek so much. Your group was amazing - we really enjoyed your company too. Especially the kids' company thanks to their curious questions and interesting observations! Eager to see your photos. We were lucky to have so many professional photographers in your group.

We stayed for two nights at Idyllic Haven at the end of May 2016. It was a lovely walk to the property though a bit adventurous as we walked in rain and hail. The food was very good and they catered to young kids and varying spice levels. The rooms were lovely with very comfortable attached bathrooms. We enjoyed bird...

Dear S, you were amazing too! We all were impressed with the way you managed the brood - not just your kids but also Sar and Sid. And that too without getting perturbed when Sid fell ill later during the trip.

This gem of a place is off the grid, no electricity or cellular coverage and offers plenty of opportunities wind down, relax and connect to nature. We stayed here with 3 other families - 8 adults and 12 kids in all. The views all around are unparalleled and we thoroughly enjoyed the nature walk to the view point as well...

Glad you loved the stay at Idyllic Haven. We enjoyed hosting you as much as you liked staying with us. The second day's bird watching was rewarding as we were a smaller group. Rather unfortunate that you could not catch good views from the view point due to cloudy weather. Better luck, next time!

Without a doubt the most beautiful part of our trek was our stay at Gaunap. A three km downhill trek takes you down to the little picturesque village of Gaunap. We were to stay at a quaint homestay - "Idyllic Haven" where we were greeted warmly by the owners and given glasses of cool Rhododendron Juice - made from the...

Thanks for the review and the awesome pics! We are glad you loved the stay at the village and the trek. Sunder and I thoroughly enjoyed organizing the trip for the group and were sorely missing all of you after the trip, especially the kids. We'll of course keep in touch and I hope you visit us once again.

One of the best experience that I ever had.Visited this place in March 2016. Close to nature and serenity. Kumaoni people are very nice. They provided very nice kumaoni food. Had a medium trek to visit the Himalayan range and beautiful mountains of Binsar sanctuary. All the facilities in the home stay were very good.

This is a happily situated homestay, amidst a village called Gaunap, in the Binsar Wildlife sanctuary. The whole village has perhaps no more than 10 families. It's accessible via a short (3km) trek down a mountain ledge. The home is surrounded by vast views of mountains. There's no electricity, yet the homestay is very comfortable. The bathroom is kept neat...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If you are looking for nature, solitude, a place far from the madding crowds, our homestay is the place for you. Located in Gaunap, a tiny village nestled in the Binsar wildlife sanctuary, it can be reached by a 3 km trek from Binsar TRH or a 8 km trek from Dhaulchhina. The village is not connected by the electricity grid or by roads. But that's it's USP! Accommodation includes cozy and comfortable rooms in a typical Kumaoni home with attached western-style bathrooms. Visit us for panoramic views of snow-clad peaks of Kumaon Himalayas, for plenty of fresh air and to detox from city life! Note that we have recently renovated our home-stay. We have spacious rooms and well-ventilated bathrooms now(these were a couple of minor complaints we received from guests before). ... more   less
