We are just back from a fantastic week long break in cottage 1 which has three bedrooms 2 bathroom. This cottage has a front and back door with the most stunning views over looking beautiful countryside and Loch Nell. The cottage was immaculate with fantastic beds and really good quality bedding. The host Mary and John had thought of everything you could possibly need while staying there. They were so lovely and friendly and very attentive. They also leave wine , tea/coffee, biscuits, milk and so many other basic needs such as toilet paper black bags, salt n pepper and even fresh flowers. Home from home .
We had sheep grazing in a field at the back if our garden and they would come to greet us in the morning and on our return in the afternoon. We had ducks and ducklings visit us too. The area is so quiet it can't help but make you feel so relaxed and you sleep like a baby. There is a boat by the Loch that John the owner said we could take out onto the Loch. We did and it was such fun . I even had a dip in the Loch which was amazing.
There was only one negative and that was us having to leave it behind and go home.

We stayed in the MacDonald cottage and had our own private back entrance to the river. When we were travelling around the Inner Hebrides island hopping, we were rowing or floating on Loch Nell. Mary and John are exceptional hosts and their sons Martin and John took our son fishing. We enjoyed hiking Ben Nevis and exploring Glen Coe. Loved shopping and eating in Oban. Can highly recommend the Oyster Bar (about an hour’s drive), Ee-usk and Coast as places to eat. Best mussels are by the Ferry. The cottages were clean and comfortable with a nice touch of luxury. On a rainy day, we enjoyed the sound of Scottish CDs (Provides by Mary) and a trip to see Highland Cows and St. Conan’s Kirk. There is a very nice walk to a waterfall as well!

We are currently in our second week in the 1 bedroom cottage. We were amazed at how big it is, with a lounge/ dinner , kitchen , bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and a large mezzanine lounge, with a beautiful pine ceiling , upstairs.

The cottage is one of only 5 I'm this rural setting and looks onto Loch Nell and is surrounded by rolling hills, sheep and cows!

Each cottage has it's own garden area complete with bird feeders that attract a variety of pretty birds. Ducks wander freely around the gardens. We also were able to star gaze due to the lack of light pollution.

Mary, the owner, is a lovely pleasant lady who we had a super chat with and she left a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and wine.

It's an ideal place to stay to explore Oban and beyond while having peace and quiet to come back to and a fully equipped kitchen if you choose to self cater. Highly recommen this little piece of paradise.

The cottages and their location is fantastic and very private. The cottage itself with its stone walls and thatched roof was full of character. We stayed in No.4 which had two bedrooms which were excellent sizes and the bed linen and towels of high quality. The ensuite and family bathroom were very clean and well presented and the early morning views out of the kitchen windows were wonderful overlooking the river. Amazing stay and we would not hesitate to stay here again, in fact hubby is looking to book for next year already!

Loved our stay here! Perfect location - far enough away from the small but busy town of Oban so really quiet and peaceful, yet close enough for local amenities/restaurants, as well as short travel distance to the likes of Mull and Glen Coe. The owners live in a house nearby and were really lovely and helpful. Views from the window overlook the beautiful Loch Nell, which can be explored by rowing boat. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, absolutely fantastic.

This is a delayed review from June 2024.

This was our 2nd stay at Clan Cottages. As before the booking process was very easy and smooth. We stayed in the same cottage as last year so were familiar with the property and how everything worked on site.

The site is close to Oban but as it overlooks Loch Nell, you would never know that just an 8 minute drive away, you're at the local main shopping stores that serve Oban. It truly is the epitome of tranquillity.

This is an ideal base for anyone who is looking for self catering accommodation while they tour the stunning West coast of Scotland. I have no doubt, we'll be back again next year for our third visit.

Been twice absolutely wonderful holiday, highly recommend. Our cottage looked over Loch Nell, stunning views, with a Golden Eagle regularly flying over the hills. Cottage was large with all amenities and spotless.

Fantastic cottages with a lovely location next to the loch. Our boys loved the rowing boat provided ! Plenty of space in the cottages. Extremely clean and modern with large living area, bedrooms and bathrooms. Owners very welcoming and provided great advice on where to go and eat locally.

Friendly and welcoming owner. Unique cottage furnished to a good standard and equipped with everything you might need - including complementary wine and delicious biscuits.
Beautiful (and convenient) setting.
Very firm mattresses which may not suit everyone.

Response from Mary M, Owner at Clan Cottages
Responded 27 Jun 2017
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Your feed back is very important to us. We thank you for your kind comments. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to choose a mattress to suit everyone, it's all a matter of personal taste. We are however in the process of replacing our double beds with kingsize beds and have done so already in some of the other cottages, so we will take careful advice from our local supplier when purchasing the new beds and try to get one which should suit most people. Thanks again for your review.

This was a new perfect, idyllic setting located far enough from Oban to be removed and tranquil but close enough to just pop into town for a few hours activities. The Loch is stunning and right outside our door. A fantastic place to take long walks just exploring the countryside. Certainly wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return in a few years.
