Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was excellent throughout, however on our 2nd night we arrived back 15 mins before scheduled time for bar to close and the bar maid was really rude and stated the bar was closed! Very dissapointed

I had an enjoyable stay, my room was comfortable and well-decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful. They serve a good range of food including an excellent choice of breakfast. Watch out for low ceilings and doorways which are a reminder of the historical nature of the building!

A very old hotel in an historic town Welcomed by a friendly staff member and room clean but a to be expected in such an old building it was very small. Could have done with a newer mattress. Fan provided which helped during current heatwave. Another family member had a bad experience with very hot water in his shower. Very friendly and efficient staff serving an extremely good English breakfast

We stayed here for a night last year and mentioned a couple of problems, one with the TV and one with the toilet. This didn't put us off booking again and it was funny to be given the same room. Unfortunately we found that nothing had been done to correct the problems after a year! What was worse this time was the attitude of the girl who booked us in, it felt like it was too much trouble. Later when we ate in the restaurant the same girl brought the food to the table and just plonked it down and walked off without asking if we needed any sauces. At breakfast the following morning a different girl was friendly but at another table a couple saw that water was dripping onto the table so they told the girl and she said yes it was from room 7 and no one can find the problem! We won't stay here again.

I am very sorry to hear that you did not receive the service that I would have hoped for on check in and at dinner. Please can you let us know which room you stayed in and what problems you had with the tv and toilet as I am unaware of this?

We have stayed in the past at Romney Sands Park Dean Resort on the nearby coast and had Sunday lunch here several times and enjoyed it, but this was our first time staying at the pub. We stayed 3 nights from Sunday 16th July in the twin B&B. The room is at the front so right over the main road and lots of traffic in the morning, but it's not a big deal. The toilet/shower room is rather compact but it serves its purpose. The stairs up to the rooms are rather steep so caution is required. You would normally enter the pub from the car park, but you also have a key to the front door on the high street, so can access the rooms 24/7 without going through the bar area. The breakfast was really nice, cereals , juice , porridge, full English with eggs anyway, Eggs Benedict etc, scrambled egg and smoked salmon, all served with tea or cafeteria coffee. We ate here in the evening and I'll say more about that under the Ship Restaurant reviews. We like it here...

The food was great, many of the staff were great but some were under performing and they are remembered more than the good ones. The rooms were reasonable, very clean on arrival but nothing special for the price paid. All in all I’ve stayed in better and worse at this price bracket.

Excellent basket lunch and the bar staff were very friendly and welcoming. Looks nothing from the front but really nice inside and at the back. I would say that this place is really nice for lunch and the beer is superb

We only had a main roast lamb as it was hot today and we weren't starving as usual. The good news is they provide a reduced sized (and priced!) main meal for the over 70s. This was two slices of meat with two roast potatoes.. The accompanying vegetables were enough for two. The bad news is the gravy is too strong/salty which spoils it.

Do not stay on rooms at front of hotel on the side of the road...the noise all blooming night is awful...the cars don't stop and so noisy plus the sound of the macerators and the banging doors. Terrible night in a teeny tiny noisy room. Bathroom so small you can hardly sit on the toilet as it that narrow.
