Stayed for 2 nights in February. Inexpensive ,however the one we stayed in was in desperate need of a makeover.!! Mould in toilet ,in shower,on ceiling ,peeling paint. room smelt damp. Forget Kiwi charm, retro interiors, this bach came straight out of the 60s and basically has not been touched since. The full cooking facilities, a good number of electrical...

Hi Liz M, Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. We have some work to do on the baches and plan to refresh them this winter. The baches are indeed built in the 1960s and we have sought to keep them that way, but mould is unacceptable, please accept our apology and II assure you we...

The whole place has a well used but comfortable feeling. The individual baches are roomy with basic but functional facilities. You get your own cabin which has a simple but complete restroom (w/ shower) and a kitchenette area with the usual electrical appliances. It provides a basic and comfortable self-contained place to stay for one or multiple nights.

Hi b B, Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a good review of Karamea Farm Baches...the Baches are kind of nostalgic and retro-70s Kiwiana and not The Ritz, but I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me and others. Enjoy your travels and come on back again...

PROS: Absolutely quintessential cabin experience. This was very inexpensive yet quite comfortable with all amenities functioning well. The owner was quite pleasant and helpful and the surrounding area beautiful, quiet, sunny, relaxing. In general this area is not littered with massive tour buses and touristy fan fare - it was my favorite area in NZ and I wish I had...

We've stayed here twice over the last month as we've explored the region. It makes a perfect base and offers all the creature comforts you need to cook, bathe, sleep and chill out. We stayed in Bach 5 both times and found it really warm, cosy and lovely. Reminds me of my Gran's place with the retro carpet, wallpaper and...

This was my second trip to Karamea. Last time I was travelling alone and really enjoyed my stay at Rongo Backpackers. This time I was with my sister and 87 year old father so we stayed at the Farm Baches owned and run by the same family. If you want the Hilton don't bother but if you are looking for...

My heart sank when I walked into this Bach. We were in Bach 5. The only reason I gave this place a 2, rather than a 1, is because of the manager's kindness and very helpful attitude. There were cobwebs in some of the corners, the shower had rust in it, the wallpaper was falling off the walls, the bathroom...

We stayed here, a group of 8 in two of the larger Baches for 2 nights. Great accommodation, comfy beds and clean. A real step back in time with the decor and even some of the crockery. Great hosts with good ideas and information of the area, would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Karamea Baches for 5 nights after completely the Heaphy Track. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. The baches were reasonably clean but are rundown and could do with a serious make over. Start by pulling out the carpet in bathroom / toilet area which probably dates back to the time the baches were built (smelly). The garden...
