During our NC500 road trip we decided to stop off at Auld Post Office B&B for a break from camping and a night of luxury which Lynne certainly provided.

Upon arrival Lynne welcomed us into her home and asked us what time we would like breakfast the next morning. She then showed us to our room which was immaculately clean with all amenities needed for a comfortable night stay including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits etc.

Lynne kindly booked us a meal at the near by pub (The Ulbster Arms) which was only a five minute drive away. This turned out to be one of our favourite meals of the holiday!

In the evening we made the most of Lynnes impressive collection of DVD’s and explored her beautiful garden.

BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING! As we entered the dining room the table was laid out perfectly, with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, jams and spreads. This was then followed by toast and coffee whilst we waited for our full Scottish breakfast, which we selected. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection.

We would definitely recommend staying here for anyone doing the NC500, or in the area, as it was just what we needed to refresh ourselves and continue on our road trip.

Thankyou so much Lynne for being a wonderful host, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back on our next visit to Scotland!

Our room was 100 times better than any hotel We have ever stayed in and we have stayed in many 4 star plus hotels . everything was spotless, beautiful decor, warm and welcoming. Breakfast was just perfect and really lovely dining .such a beautiful garden ,a prize garden to be enjoyed while staying.....absolutely beautiful. I found this wonderful bed and breakfast on the Visit Scotland website when looking for accommodation near to Scrabster from where the Northlink Ferry operates to Stromness. We were originally seeking a twin room but Lynne could only offer two single rooms which turned out to be two double rooms. We decided the larger room was more than adequate for our needs. Lynne and Weyland are superb hosts and our extremely comfortable room with super king sized bed with ensuite shower room was decorated in stunning art deco style. Two comfortable armchairs, DVD player with a library of DVDs available, a great hostess tray with a selection of teas, hot chocolate and coffee with delicious shortbread biscuits, chocolates and a bottle of water added to our comfort. We were offered a delicious breakfast - fresh berries, yoghurt, cereals, fruit juice, traditional freshly cooked breakfast or scrambled eggs with salmon, toast, tea or coffee beautifully served in the dining room. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would have no hesitation in using the Auld Post Office B and B again. It is indeed, one of the best B and Bs in Scotland.

Only 10 minutes drive from Thurso with the most beautiful gardens to the rear accessible from the bedroom's patio doors. Room was exceptionally clean comfortable and spacious and breakfast was delightful in the dining area, originally a post office. It's amazing to see the work Lynne and Weyland have done to the property and gardens truly a labour of love! Really fantastic hosts just sorry we didn't get to experience the gin tasting evening as Weyland has some great stories to tell. Thanks again for having us!

Stayed here while touring the NC500 on motorcycles with three friends. To say I was blown away by the accomodation is an understatement. A mix of modern, antique and Art Deco. The attention to detail was amazing (And I'm fairly OCD). We had a warm welcome from Lynne (The owner with her Husband, Weyland) who guided us as to where to park the bikes. The Post Office has two double ensuite rooms in the main building and an annex with two single rooms with log fire and self contained kitchen. We were told before we booked that there was little in the area to do as it is quite remote but Lynne offered to drive us to the nearest restuarant, The Ulbster Arms and pick us up when we had finished which was more than welcomed. The following morning we had breakfast. I was blown away, again by the attention to detail and the overall presentation. Weyland cooks a mean full breakfast and my friend who ordered the scrambled egg and smoked salmon was presented with a plate of food which wouldn't have looked out of place in a 5 star restaurant. I cannot honestly rate Weyland and Lynne highly enough and if you opt to stay here you won't be disappointed. Thank you both from me and the lads

We had the Cow Parsley Cottage and we were absolutely charmed by the cosy feel and the vintage and antique items that filled the place with personality. You could tell that vases, china, knickknacks came from the family. Large comfortable bed and an excellent full hot breakfast cooked to order and served on a beautifully appointed table in the main house next to the cottage by lovely proprietor, Lynne. You won't be needing any lunch! It is really in the middle of nowhere but perfectly situated as a peaceful jumping off point for north coast exploring. I saved the best for last though- the garden! It is without a doubt the most beautiful and creative garden I have ever seen created by, well, "regular" people and not part of a mansion or palace. Lynne is happy to have you stroll in it. Cottage had microwave and fridge kitchen, living room had wood burning stove, DVDs, and games. I can't talk about value for money because it was booked for me as part of a self-driving tour and I have no idea of the regular daily rate. I highly recommend if you are looking for peace, privacy, and beauty,

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Auld Post Office and cannot praise Lynne and Weyland enough for the warm and welcoming service we received from beginning to end. Beautifully decorated with an eye to detail, rooms are immaculate and very comfortable with all home amenities. We had a gin tasting session in the gorgeous Juniper Lounge situated in the breathtaking garden (even on a soggy October day it was enjoyable to walk around). We learned lots and thoroughly enjoyed the many different gins from the collection. We also enjoyed a fresh bowl of fruit before a full breakfast on both mornings!

Lynne was kind enough to book us a table for dinner at the Ulbster Arms in the neighbouring village of Halkirk. Definitely worth a visit too during your stay.

This B&B is a gem and I can’t recommend it enough as a place to stay when visiting the area. Perfect for NC500 stays. Such a warm and friendly atmosphere you’ll leave wanting to rebook again. Thanks again Lynne and Weyland!

Very convenient for Scrabster and the Orkney Ferry. Wonderfully accommodating hosts. Our room had everything we needed and a great shower. French doors to the extensive and beautiful garden, including a large fish pond stocked with goldfish. Lynn booked supper for six of us at a local pub, We were blown away by the Gin Tasting Session. Stepping-stones across the garden lead to the most beautifully decorated bar lounge with over 100 gins. Very profession and informative tasting. Not to be missed. Anyone looking for a cottage B&B with charm and really professional hosts, here is the place. Lynn kindly washed the jumper I left by mistake before returned it to me. So kind.

We stayed here for one night with our dog, perfect for the NC 500 route. We stayed in the cottage which was perfect. Hosts were most accommodating and breakfast was delicious. Loved hearing about the history of the building and the work undertaken. Keep up your good work.

I can't add a lot about the Auld Post Office that others haven't said, so I will just have to echo that it is a wonderful, comfortable B&B with gracious and welcoming hosts. We were a family of four and stayed partly in the Annex and partly in one of the double rooms in the house. They were spotless and cozy. Lynne booked dinner for us at the Ulbster Arms, as others have mentioned, and it was delicious. After dinner we returned to the Auld Post office for a pre-arranged gin tasting that was certainly a highlight. Breakfast was delicious. The area is remote but the B&B is conveniently located for taking the ferry to Orkney, which was our next destination. All in all a wonderful "find" and we recommend it highly!
