Beautiful site, but the male owner was extremely rude and unfriendly. Friends booked 2 x pitches for campervans, then told on arrival that the site doesn't accommodate vans, so were stuck in the car park. Felt unwelcome. 3 years ago the male owner was welcoming and friendly. Sadly we won't be returning. Such a shame as the site is great and recommend the pizzas. Female owner and other staff were really lovely throughout.
We stayed here for a couple of nights whilst travelling around Cornwall in our camper. When we turned up we wasn’t sure whether we found the right place as it looked like a cottage, but as soon as you carry on that’s where you start seeing little chalets abs this wonderful markee that was the bar. The staff were so lovely and helped us when needed. I honestly can’t knock the place one bit. It was rustic, boho, and proper camping! We invited our family who were staying nearby for food as they were serving pizza, and oh my it was stunning! We really didn’t want to leave and we will be 100% coming back for longer next year! Thanks guys for an amazing experience 😊
Absolutely beautiful place. Food is excellent, owners are very friendly and attentive. Beautiful seating areas outside to chill out. Even has a fire pit. Would highly recommend. Pizzas are highly recommended. Well worth a visit. Can't wait to go back.
Our initial reaction to Mill Cottage was to quote my husband 'Have you got the right cottage?'. It's incredibly small! I certainly wouldn't sleep 6 here. 3 is a squeeze! On top of this the resident restaurant 'Scott and Babs' (which is a separate enterprise people. There's no point reviewing the food under Retorrick Mill farm, Scott and Babs have separate tripadvisor reviews) was booked out until Aug 6 a week before we arrived so don't assume you're going to be eating here unless you've booked months in advance. The other downside is that outside the cottage gets incredibly busy with a parking attendant on his bike from 5-8 pm and lots of traffic coming to and fro the restaurant plus the campsite over the ford. This is not the place for you if you want a tranquil get away or high luxury! In Mill Cottage the mattresses in the single room and one of the twin's need replacing. They are extremely uncomfortable. I've never known my husband rise at 7 am! The bath leaks, the kitchen is ill equipped...cheese grater? Really? and there's no cleaning products other than a brush so you can't help the situation unless you go out and spend a mop and bucket of money. On the plus side against poor Wifi and no mobile signal...it does have a charming private garden opposite that we really enjoyed. However you have to tie up your dogs as it's not enclosed. Up at the bar there's a lot of children and an out of tune piano. If you're a Boden clad family seeking a Bohemian get away this is the place for you! The farm itself is charming despite all the many signs and notices. The gardens and setting are well maintained. The owners are friendly and the staff are lovely. The actual close proximity to Mawgan Porth means you can walk down to the beach to walk dogs or surf. After 5 15 pm you can park for free otherwise it's £5. Heaving at the moment as you can imagine. We did have a sunny week so we were very lucky. Highlights included Padstow, Holywell Bay...get there early....Bowgie Inn at Crantock has spectacular views...Watergate Bay if you want to be very middle class & we had 3 amazing lunches at 'off The Path' which you pass on your way into Retorrick. The food there was excellent!…
We had a fantastic magical wedding last weekend for our daughter. The grove, stream and woodland backdrop of Mill cottage garden hit all the high notes for the ceremony. The relaxed atmosphere of the barn and bar were just what was wanted for a chilled wedding breakfast. The chalets, cabins and horsebox were excellent. Dawn and Wilf couldn't have been more warm and helpful and Scott and Babs food was sublime. Sue particularly appreciated their concern for her dietary requirements and the individual dishes they made for her. This was care and attention at its best. Les
We stayed in our camper van. they also have chalets and lots of lovely camping spaces. Nothing posh, just very friendly and laid back. The gardens are so peaceful and full of beautiful plants and trees. Very natural and basic, homespun. If you want anything glossy and swish, this is not for you
We were privileged to attend the most amazing wedding at Retorrick Mill. The atmosphere of this place is amazing so relaxing instantly you feel your self mellow. Mobile phones don't work here so you actually get to talk to each other. Chickens and ducks wander through you feet as you sit and chat. There is an outside area with seating around a big fire pit, a marquee with comfy sofas and chairs, a cosy snug bar area and a lovely barn. The staff worked really hard all day, nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. The food was delicious all home made and best I've had in a long time. We can't wait to go back and next time we will be staying a few days as one day wasn't enough.
What a place this is. We normally stay in st mawgan which is uncannily like the village in the film hot fuzz with its personalities. From now on RM will be an annual stay for us. From the moment we arrived to when we left we laughed, shared stories and relaxed more than we have ever done before. Wilf is a very generous, funny guy, dawn his right hand lady is fab and scott and babs that run the restaurant deliver outstanding food ina remarkable unique atmosphere. The secret is obvious. While others are looking to fleece you these guys are not in it for the money at the end of the day. They are about fun, atmosphere, relaxing and making memories for everyone. Thats what wilf and his gang determine success as. And they are winning big time. As we go back to our rat race jobs and time poor lifestyles it makes you wonder that in a small corner of cornwall a gang is doing their own thing, at their own pace and showing the rest of us there is another way to live to be blissfully happy. Top week guys, many many thanks. P.s - i would still shoot that cockerill!!!…
Fantastic venue, relaxed, laid back and very friendly Fantastic food all cooked in an open kitchen in the middle of the venue Cosy and friendly little bar We attended a Summer wedding party there and could not think of a better venue
Absolutely loved our stay at Rettorick Mill. It’s eclectic and very bohemian. It’s not 5 star luxury but it is 5 star enjoyment. Great owners. Very laid back. Always willing to chat. We were in the chalet furthest from the bar so heard no music at all. Animals all over the site. More than willing to come and interact with you. Great for kids, adults and animals alike. I will be back. This is the life. Even if it was just for a week.
