We (two adults and children aged 12 and 9) stayed at Makis last summer and had a wonderful time. Our apartment was spacious with two bedrooms, two shower/toilets and a large patio overlooking the harbour and mountains, with Ithaca beyond and a tiny balcony. The rooms and apartments were well laid out so you had privacy and were not overlooked .The pool was deserted for much of the day as people tended to go off and explore the beautiful island. From the pool you again had wonderful views and a friendly snack bar was open for food and drinks. The food in the Taverna was first rate and Maki and his staff went out of their way to make sure his guests were happy. A short walk takes you to the many tavernas in Agia Efimia, the town beach and places to hire motor boats or just to 'people watch' .The harbour is bustling at night with a variety of craft and views across the water. Having hired a car and visited much of the island we were glad to be staying in Agia Efimia and would certainly go there again.
Any questions, please feel free to email me.

If, like me, you have travelled the Greek Islands for years, you will know about the poor plumbing & electrics and the relaxed attitude to items in disrepair due to wear and tear. It would make Greece less colourful if these things were perfect. Makis Apartment in Agia Efemia in Cephalonia does not disappoint - but is all the better for it.
Stayed in Apt. 31 which had magnificent views of the sea and over to the beatiful island of Ithica. The apartment was the size of a small cottage - but with two shower rooms. TWO - IN GREECE!!!
Great for larger families or group of friends. Enough hot water for all 5 of us to shower - another bonus in Greece. Good restaurant attached to apts. Pool area sufficient for a bit of sun worship. Overall a great success and I would not hesitate to recommend to friends.

We have stayed at Makis apartments for almost 15 years - as a couple, prior to the arrival of our two children and as a family ever since. Our two boys (aged 12 and 8) love to stay in Agia Efemia and have always been made to feel very welcome by Makis, his staff and pretty much everyone in the village. In more recent years Makis has added a pool and bar area - both are lovely with wonderful views. The apartments have in the main been updated too and are clean and comfortable. The restaurant is very good and consistently provides good, tasty, home cooked Greek food.

We visit Cephalonia at least once a year and would always recommend a stay with Makis.

The staff at the Makis studios are all very friendly and helpful. It's family run and it shows as they truly care.

The pool was very clean and a welcome retreat for the temperature. The sunbathing area isn't that big, however to be honest I never had a problem getting a bed (I was up there early as I needed the shade from about 10.30 onwards as it was so hot!) as people were off and about during the day. There are fabric style (which are more comfortable) and plastic beds. Be warned though there are no umberellas provided - if you want one, you'll need to buy one from one of the shops (mine cost 6.5E) but they split easily enough into the back of the sunbead if you raise the back rest up. There's also a pool snack area which is in the shade selling basic stuff like toasties, chips and hamburgers and it has a great view over the town and harbour.
Some locals came to use the pool on Saturday (I was only there a week so not sure if this is a regular thing or not) and guests from another Olympic property nearby are also free to use the pool.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner but I never ate there so can't comment.

There are studios and apartments in the complex. I was a lone traveller and had booked a studio with garden views but that wasn't what I got. My room was located in the row behind the main building & restaurant at the end and opposite the kitchen (room number 11) so it could be noisy when trying to relax on the balcony. If I'd been there with my hubby and staying for 2 weeks I would have asked to be moved, however realistically for the amount of time I was spending in there I knew I could put up with it for a week. The room itself was what you'd expect from SC accommodation in Greece, basic and functional. There was a small wardrobe, twin beds, an easy chair, dressing table and stool at one end, leading into the bathroom. The bathroom needed a bit of attention for some cracked tiles but it was very clean and even had a shower curtain which in my experience in Greece is rare. There was a big mirror and a small shelf for storage. There was always plenty of hot water, even at 7.30am on the morning of my departure, which I was very impressed with (in Greece supplies can be hit and miss). The kitchen area had a fridge, a kettle, small table and chairs and a strange looking oven come hotplate contraption. Basic cutlery etc where supplied. Each room has an air-conditioning unit (payable locally for 5E per day).

The room was serviced regularly and towels etc. changed often.

This was my second visit to Agia Efimia and my first to the Makis. I would stay there again but the next time I'd book direct with owner and make sure I got a different room.

We were recommended Agia Efimia by a friend of ours who has been for the last 5 years or so, and no wonder, it's great! We've been to Greece a few times but this really is the best place we've been to there, and will definately go back again. It's not too busy, but not over quiet at the same time, there's a good selection of tavernas and cafe-bars dotted around the harbour, and also a few tucked away in the side streets if you go looking. Walking to the top end of the harbour there is a small pebble beach just below the Paradise restaurant, it doesn't get too busy and is a nice setting for the day, especially with the great food served at Paradise just above. Would recommend hiring a car for a few days, there's lots to see on the island (Myrtos beach and Fiscardo in particular), driving is easy over there and car hire fairly cheap at around £50 for two days.

We stayed at Makis Apartments just outside the main harbour area. Very pleased with the place in general, our apartment was a little tired and basic (but this is what we have come to expect from Greece) but at the same time very clean, everything worked and was very big, having three seperate rooms. We also had a great view of the pool and the sea from our balcony, see attached photo's. I think the rest of the apartments had recently been refurbished as they looked newer and fresher, so I would guess that our room was one of the older ones due to be refurbished soon. That said, we were very pleased with the place, with nothing at all worth complaining about overall. The pool area is spotless and appear to be very new. It is open to other holiday makers from surrounding hotels (there are few pools in Agia Efimia) but that caused no problems, to be honest the pool area was very quiet most of the time, probably becasue there's plenty of other things to keep you busy around the island. Maki's restaurant is also well worth a try, it serves great food with friendly service.

Looking forward to going back again soon!

The apartments are situated just a few minutes walk downhill to the harbour and tavernas of Agis Efimia in a quiet area ( not counting the local cockerels but this is Greece). We were in apartment No 22 fantastic views to Ithaca and the harbour from the balcony that went round the whole side of the apartment. The rear balcony off the bedroom was great for breakfast as much cooler than the front, fly screens on all doors and windows....did not see a mosquito.Loved the gift of a bottle of local wine and bracelet to welcome us.
Fitted kitchen with utensils,hob/oven grill, kettle and T.V. chairs and table on balcony.
Lovely swimming pool with bar manned by a lovely girl, book exchange, snacks, icecreams etc. Good value for money and very clean and lovely grounds with lots of different areas to sit in. I would choose No 24 as it has a large balcony looking towards Agia Efimia great for drinks with evening sun.Afia Efimia has a good choice of tavernas and bars, 2 bakeries, pharmacy, supermarkets and was generally cheaper than the south of the island and still retains a village atmosphere.

This was our second year at MAKIS Apartments, and our third year in Aghia Efimia. We just can't imagine staying anywhere else! This little village is just paradise, and the apartments are clean, spacious, and have everything you need for a wonderful holiday. Makis himself is just a wonderful host, and nothing is too much trouble to him. Ask and you will receive!

Patti, on Pool Bar duty amongst other things, is a delight, and the pool area is sublime!

Already booked for next year!

We have just returned from our second visit this year to these wonderful appartments, cannot praise them high enough. They are modern but still with an element of "Greece" and there is no one else in the area of Aghia Efima to rival the view from the beautiful clean pool, bar area and appartments. We have stayed with Makis Appartments for ten years running and would not go anywhere else, the owner treats all his guests as family and nothing is to much trouble. The appartments are well appointed if you wish to eat "in" and with ample appliances.

My wife and I stayed at the apartments in September 2008 for 3 weeks. We had apartment 33 which had a bedroom with balcony overlooking the sea, abedromm/kitchen with 2 bunk beds and another balcony overlooking the side and a smallish bathroom with a great shower. Throughout the stay the apartment was very well cleaned and the towels and linens changed every 4 days. it was a really good stay and with the activity in the small number of houses close to the villa one quickly becomes a part of the small community. Because of the pool the complex does attract other holiday makers from the vicinity although to be honest this never made the pool area too busy and we never had any trouble getting a sun bed. The restaurant was closed throughout our stay although it did look to be a very nice area. We ate at the Finikas which is a 10 minute walk into town and the food was excellent although it was very busy when the yachts were in. Overall we drove over 2000 km during the 3 weeks and the whole island is very beautiful. the only slight downside was having to reverse on to the Argostoli-Lixouri ferry! Lixouri is a great place to visit although it is very quiet and lunch at the Aenos in the main square (pitta) was cheap and delicious. Also worth a visit is the acropolis at Sami - and further along the track is the old church. Dhikalia point - on the same road - is the sight of the film set for Captain Corellis Mandolin and the beach at Assimos is a little further on. A great island. Must visits are also Fiskardo, about 30 minutes drive and Assos (on the way to Fiskardo )and definitely worth the steep drive down.

A really warm welcome, the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

The apartments themselves were cleverly laid out amongst lush planting, including a lawned sun bathing area, as well as paved area by the pool/cafe bar.

Our apartment had balconies back and front with fantastic views over the bay. It came with a small kitchenette and best of all integral mosquito screens.

The rooms were immaculately clean, if slightly dated in decor. But for the price we couldn't fault it. We would highly recommend and would visit again if ever in the area.

Thank you
