What a gorgeous hotel! As soon as we arrived, we was welcomed by a fresh glass of lemon water and got handed all information we needed for our stay.
We went to our room which was nice, there was 3 of us staying but only 2 single beds in the room so one of us had to stay on the sofa, which wasn’t ideal for a family of 3. The rooms were clean, however there was no air con which was a huge disappointment seen as though how warm it was and how hot the rooms got throughout the day. There was a fan provided however air con would have been perfect.
Breakfast was nice, freshly made omelettes, cereal, fruit, pancakes, bacon etc.
The main pool was clean, however the VIP area was something else. This was the highlight of our holiday, however, charging hotel guests €10 each only to receive a glass of orange or prosecco, a towel and a pot of fruit wasn’t ideal but totally worth it!! (Personally I think all hotel guests should be allowed 1 visit during their stay included in the price paid). The views from the VIP area were unreal and the pool was beautiful. Especially the beds in the pool.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Gran Canaria / Puerto Rico.

Dear Miad, We are very thankful after reading your review about your stay at the Riosol Hotel. Thank you for praising our customer service, cleanliness, breakfast, VIP area, and views. It is a pleasure to check that you enjoyed your holidays with us and that you do recommend it to other families. Although there is always the possibility to rent a portable air con unit at the Reception, we have taken notes of your suggestion for air-conditioning in Standard Apartments, to study how we can make the experience of our guests much better. Your feedback is very important to us. Thank you very much for letting us know, and we are honestly sorry for not having fulfilled your satisfaction this time. We will be more than happy to receive you again with a big smile. Looking forward to welcoming you soon. Hotel Riosol Riversun – Touristic

We recently spent 6 nights at the hotel. We had a standard room which is very basic. There were two beds in the bedroom and there were two ‘couches’ in the living room that converted to a bed by taking the back cushion off. The beds were quite firm and the couch beds even more so. I managed to make the couch beds more comfortable by folding up the spare duvets from the cover and putting them on top of the bottom cushion. Pillows are very flat and there was only one per person. The bathroom door also was t great and was scraping along the floor and looked like one of the hinges was rusted.

There is one fan in the room and with four of us it made it quite uncomfortable. We ended up buying another fan. You can also rent one from reception. We were lucky that we had a window to the side of the room where the sun didn’t reach so we were able to open that if we went back to the room during the day. We kept the curtains drawn over the balcony doors all day as the sun is HOT!!

The balcony was very large with a table and chairs, two loungers and an umbrella.

The kitchen is very small but there’s a range of dishes and cooking utensils as well as a microwave, kettle and toaster. Dish soap, sponge and drying towel included.

The standard room is ok but I think if staying any longer you would want something more comfortable.

The pool area is very nice but it’s a mad rush at 9am when the pool opens to guarantee you get a lounger. On Friday/Sat/Sun there was a security person who would remove your stuff if you left it longer than 30 mins. The pool was very very busy on these days and the rooftop ‘island of stars’ pool was open as well but it costs €15 per person.

There is some basic entertainment with the aqua aerobics and water carpet being the most popular. They are very enthusiastic and sweet and try and get everyone involved.

A small shop onsite open only Fri/Sat/Sun where you could buy all your essentials.

The Europa center is just up the road where there is a good sized Spar supermarket as well as restaurants and shops. Many were still closed but it seems things are slowly opening up.

You easily access the Puerto Rico beach by taking the stairs. It’s not even that bad coming back up, but you can get a taxi back up for about €4 (there’s a taxi stand by the spar).

It cost €3.80 to go to Amadores beach.

We didn’t eat a lot on site but it seemed decent enough and not too expensive.

I don’t think we would come back to the hotel, but we did enjoy our stay.

Just back from hotel Riosol, we stayed B&B as a family of 3. Cant complain about anything, the only minor issue was it took us a while to find our room but once found we were delighted, the view was amazing, nice and high overlooking the rest of puerto rico and the beach and harbour. The lift system is very special too, its outdoors and a yellow tinted glass elevator, the views going up and down are superb. Breakfast was great, with much choice for kids and adults, and the staff in there were always friendly. I couldnt possibly comment on evening meals as we always eat in the europa centre which was 200 yards away, it has a selection of bars, resrurants and shops aswell as 2 supermarkets which are cheap to shop in compared to the UK. The hotel itself has its own mini-market, we often got beer from here to take to our sunbeds or balcony, €2.20 for a 1 litre bottle of san miguel. The balconys in the hotel vary in size, some are HUGE, and some are very standard size, Ours happened to be a medium sized balcony, but felt big enough for us, it had 2 full size sunbeds on it, and a table with 3 chairs (of course with a great view), and still plenty of room left over. If you wish to hang around the pool it had a lovely view and we never had a problem with getting sunbeds after breakfast. We also tried the Island in the stars on several occasions, its quieter up their for sun bathing and there are a variety of beds/sunbeds to choose from which each have a head rest, you get a glass of cava shortly after arrival aswell as occasional snacks in the day (fruit and Bombay mix), its a little more exclusive and definatly worth a try for €10 per day, beach towels are also included with that. The beach isnt overly far but theres alot of steps to walk down to get there, around 800, there are 2 close by beaches, the one you can see, and Amadores is 1020m away from that, but is a lovely walk down the coast. A taxi from the beach back to the Riosol is around €4 or a good effort to walk the steps back up. The room we had was great, 2 sofas, a bedroom, a free to use safe, TV, microwave, kettle, hob and fridge, certainy enough to self cater if you wanted to save money, but we decided to eat out in the Europa centre every night. The room was kept 5 days a week and the cleaners alsays did an excellent job. Overall we was very happy with our stay and would reccommended it, we will certainly be back.

Just returned from another very enjoyable stay at the Riosol. We have been visiting every year for the last 19 years and stayed at the Riosol 11 times now. Stayed in a 2 bedroom premium apartment on a room only basis. The new Island of stars VIP pool area is fantastic. Great not to have the issue of towels put on sun beds by guests at the crack of dawn. You pay a 10 euros at reception and this includes a towel, glass of cava, fresh fruit and nibbles. Well worth it in our opinion. A big thank you to Agustine (island of stars) and Roberto (reception) for making us so welcome. Looking forward to seeing you next year.

We change Canary islands every winter and this year it was the turn of Gran Canaria again. We enjoyed Puerto Rico last time at the Puerto Plata down the hill a bit so decided to choose this resort again. We were recommended the Riosol by friends who had been before and we were happy with what we paid. We looked at it and liked the refurb that had been done. We chose to do self-catering as there are so many good offers in restaurants. We had apartment 3084, were told we didn't need to use the lift but we struggled to find it. Others throughout our stay also had trouble finding their apartments. Better numbering would be so much easier than having to hump suitcases back and forward and up and down. The room itself was clean and fresh. We were supplied with fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, hob and enough utensils. The safe was free of charge. The tv only offered a few BBC channels, maybe a few more UK channels should be available. The maid was polite and even cleaned up dishes we had used which we would never expect done for us. The bedroom was warm but we were happy with the fan provided. Never understand why so many places, especially in (all) the Canary islands that don't supply air con. The pool was big enough and we never really had a problem getting sunbeds. We didn't use the "Island of Stars" area above, no point. Occasionally we would get a cold drink at the bar but thought €5 was quite expensive for two colas. Snacks were also quite expensive so we would go up to the Europa centre instead. We hired a car while we were there but parking was a problem most of time. Our car was parked nearer the Europa centre and it was bumped. Asked if there was hotel parking and was told that we could but there would be extra charges. We took the risk and thankfully the hire company were very understanding when we returned the car. The views were spectacular looking down to the beach and marina and port, never get tired of looking at those views from the apartment terrace which also came with sunbeds and sunshade.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel with one or two issues but we really just used it as a base while driving around the island, for showering, sleeping and sunbathing. We may return on a future holiday as we feel we never really got the best out of it, probably because we didn't want to do all-inclusive. We also lost a days holiday at the start as we couldn't arrive on the Monday with the sandstorms. We did think about asking if we could get an complimentary A.I. upgrade just for our last day to make up for, and having paid for that lost day/night but didn't bother in the end. Put it down to experience.

The room was in the middle of the hotel, not far from the lifts. Beautiful view from the balcony. Very clean, the maids go above and beyond; friendly and very hardworking. Majority of staff were friendly and helpful. Reception staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Food is standard for all inclusive. New Years Eve gala dinner was lovely, hotter than usual with lots of variety. Pool area is small for the size of the hotel; lots of children running around and jumping in. Island of Stars is worth the €10 for the peace; complementary drink, tapas and towel included. Close to the Europa Centre. I would go back if I was guaranteed a room high up.

We have spent some time on the island, but never at Hotel Riosol. But now we will. It has a great location, it is tidy and clean, no ants or anything that we observed, a big pool, possible to have a variety of rooms and also change to a better one if you like (generally it comes at a cost) and you can do your own cooking, if you like, or use the restaurant for breakfast or dinner (which we did neither of). For those that want, there was entertainment every night, and we slept all nights without being disturbed by parting neighbours. Thus location, facilities and friendlyness caught us

Arrived home last night after 12nights at this super hotel. We have been coming here for over 20years and always have a great time especially at this time of year when a lot of repeat guests arrive and old friendships are renewed. We had a great apartment as usual with regular guests Pat and Alan next door which was a bonus as we could compare stories every morning as how our day or night went . The hotel renovations are finished and the new lifts really make a difference I was a bit apprehensive at first but after a few times it was fine and made getting about much easier. We booked 3day's half board for 19euros per person per day and the food was excellent both breakfast and dinner with very friendly staff as it is throughout the whole hotel they really are a credit to the Riosol. Our cleaner was Theresa who goes beyond her duties to make your stay comfortable Booked up again for April and know it will be a great time again

This hotel was probably the worst me and my family have stayed at. I went all inclusive I wish I had not. The food was always cold or undercooked, there was not much choice and the dinning hall was too small to accommodate the amount of guests staying there. The rooms were very basic and did not provide a double bed for me and my partner, they also contained ants in the bathroom and kitchen and the smell of sewage in the bathroom. Pool area was very small, unless we wanted to pay an extra 10 euros for the roof top pool, which was a rip off as you still had to pay for drinks. Staff were always grumpy other than the maids, cocktails here were watered down pop and the evening entertainment was terrible. The good points were definitely the view and the level of service from the maids. This was our first time in Gran Canaria and we will not be returning any time soon. We had too separate apartments one for me and partner and the other for our daughter and her partner, both to which had the same problems.

I’m currently on day 5 of a 2 week holiday. Arrived late Saturday night and room we were given (Premium room what we booked) was really clean spacious, gorgeous views of the sea and plenty of space on the terrace. I’m really pleased with our room. This room is air conditioned and the bedroom has a huge ceiling fan. Not sure what other rooms here have. The location of my room was great and no need to use the lift. (I’ve only ever seen one working and know the other broke for a day) the poor people on the bottom were in hell getting up all the stairs! Not great at all!

Cons;
First day went to the pool at 9:45, no beds just people everywhere. (COVID-19, means that any hotel operating, should make sure they are meeting those regulations and operating in a safe secure manner to protect guests in their hotels) the Riosol is not doing this at all! (Sorry they insist you wear a mask to buy a drink from the pool bar that’s outside)!!!! We had a drink and had a walk around instead!

Day 2, I woke up early and promised my daughter we would get some beds and have a pool day. Got to the pool at 8am and it was closed off. Doesn’t open until 9am. I had a book so sat on one of the tables, but was asked to move as they were cleaning. (They don’t clean the pool of an evening they clean it each morning)! I joined a few other people waiting and a queue started to form from 8:15am, once they removed the barrier it’s a mad dash for beds. This is totally unheard of from me and I was in shock, this happens daily and people push shove and argue! It’s awful. I know sun beds is a holiday nightmare sometimes, but this is on a hole other level. They have another fully functioning pool that they refuse to open! They would rather everyone squeeze together each morning queuing on stairwells and running for beds. They have no concerns about Covid and are not interested in the welfare of the guests.

The hotel is high up on the hills of Puerto Rico, but that’s Puerto Rico and if you do your research on Puerto Rico you would know it’s hilly, I personally don’t have an issue and have walked into town a few times. Takes 25 mins. It’s €5 to return and never have an issue getting a taxi back.

The hotel has so much potential and with the world on its knees, giving guests an enjoyable experience here would speak volumes right now. Just open the top pool and give guest some social distancing before the hotel gets closed down because it’s been flaunting the rules! This is the main issue of concern and by the end of August your 4 star review will be tarnished by guests writing about the same point!

I would have scored this a 4, if I didn’t have to set my alarm, & join a damn queue to get a bed! Also if you do manage to get a bed, be warned if you leave your bed for longer than 30 minutes, your towels are likely to be thrown off the bed by the lifeguard!

Dear guest, We thank you for taking the time to comment on his stay at Hotel Riosol. Thank you very much for praising the room, our staff strives so that our clients only worry about enjoying their holidays. Due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, the regulations for placing Gran Canaria at level 4 by alert require reducing the number of hammocks to safeguard social distance. Although we cannot control the degree of knowledge or non-compliance with health regulations of our clients outside our facilities, within them we can focus on them, so your comment is a great help, to improve the quality of the experience we offer to our clients. As for the other pool, we commented that it is undergoing reform and will be available in October. We know that the Hotel Riosol is in a privileged area of Puerto Rico, so we take note of your appreciations to study measures aimed at improving our service and guaranteeing that our guests enjoy a fantastic and unforgettable experience. We hope to have you back at our facilities. Kind regards, Hotel Riosol Riversun-Touristic
